i.e. like you're explaining this to a 5 year old

Liberalism said live the way you want and other people can live the way they want and as long as you don't fuck with each other that should work OK. Feminism said that that doesn't work because some of those other people are actually being oppressed by the people in charge over there and we should help them to not be oppressed. But you can't live and let live and force others to live and let live so the two ideologies don't really work together.

u wot m8
can you please give a rl example?

That is the real life example. But a metaphor would be me and my wife are the liberals we live next door to the barbarians. Mr. Barbarian beats his wife and I think "I don't want to beat my wife but I'm not the boss of the barbarians so as long as they don't attack me or Mrs. Liberal I don't care what they do. But then my wife says Mrs. Barbarian doesn't like being beat and because we have the ability to put a stop to it we have an obligation to. When we stopped ignoring what they were doing and tried to change them because we felt it would make the world more free we went from liberals to progressives.

you posted a pretty good example of an answer in your pic. just realize that modern liberals are essentially the "progresivism" entry, and progressives are possibly worse.

In short
>liberal: If fags in the US want to fag and Muslims want to kill fags in Iraq I don't care because it doesn't hurt me.

Progressive: fags must be allowed to fag everywhere because that is how the world is most free.

i dont see any anyone who is comfortable with no laws against physical violence, besides the rare violent psychopath
your post sounds like nonesense.

No it is just confusing because liberals is used as another name for Democrats in the us but most Democrats are actually progressives

Try reading the post below it. It probably explains it better.

>Can someone explain to me in a way I understand what the differences between Liberalism and progressivism are?
Real liberalism is libertarianism. "Liberalism" as practiced by the left wing is actually Marxist socialism. However, they are vaguely aware of the burdens these words carry, and stole the name of another ideology to hide themselves.

so basically a "progressivist" is a classification of a person, not an identity? maybe a progressive wouldn't identify as one but they "are"?
can someone confirm this leaf's post? is he right?

No check
For the true answer.
Leaf thinks that liberal describes an economic ideology when it really describes a social ideology.

Progressisivim isnt anything. Its a lose band of anti social people all clammoring for gibes and extra rights over and above the majority.

>black people should be immune to the consequences of commiting crime
>Women should be able to kill their babies, not kill their babies, half kill their babies and have someone else pay for it. Babies.
>My mental health problem should be more important than all other considerations. Fuck society.
>I am mad that I never went to free school. I am mad I never did anything worth while in college. I am mad that I am poor. Brown retards irritate successful people so I want more brown retards here.
>I am a brown retard. I am here illegally. The word illegal offends me. Fuck white people. White people gibe money pls.

>hey we all hate the majority looking out for their own best interests.

>Conservatism
>I am literally too stupid to deal with reality, so we need to force despotic theocracy on everyone so we can limit actions, thoughts and ideas

well i have never seen people who say things like that but who you are describing are classic criminal psychopaths.

Here's what you're looking for.
>liberalism vs authoritarian left

ok

Liberalism comes from the French word "Liberté" meaning Freedom/Liberty.
Classical Liberals (aka Liberals anywhere outside the US) will usually stand for Freedom on both economic issues and social issues.

In Germany our liberals are for fag marriage while also being against raising the min wage.
They are for cutting spending and usually advocate for making your own choices (instead of the government doing them for you).

KINDA like libertarians in the US, just not as pro-guns and usually not outspoken against most government programs that already exist (as trying to get rid of medicare in Germany would be the death of every political party).

You have never seen BLM, women in general, lgbtq, high school drop outs aka "anti fashists" or illegals?

They want your money and they arnt afraid to throw tantrums to get it.

Im a liberal. I think that mass immigration will push up the value of my property investments and what I can rent them for. I am pro refugee.

Anyone who complains about what it will do to the value of labour is a racist and probably a nazi.

Classic Liberalism=Libertarian

Typically an American Libertarian is a Constitutional Libertarian

all those things i only occasionally see on the internet. and everyone knows you should take internet writing with a grain of salt.

Modern social progressivism formed the counter-culture movement of 1960's. It claimed the namesake of the earlier progressive movement.

But this one was influenced by marxist thinkers and taken a mission that the government can be tool for social and economic equality.

Liberalism has a tradition going back to Thomas Jefferson and is based on enlightenment era thinkers. It was first classical liberalism until the great depression.

After the Neo-classical economics arose post-WW2, neo-classical liberalism began to counter the marxist view of progressives and the corporatist views of New Deal Democrats.

Frankly Liberals and Progressives hate each other as much as they both hate fascists.

They vote.

More accurately

Neo-classical liberals are one part of a libertarian movement. Others include an-cap, objectivists and centrist-liberals. Alot fo concepts also got borrowed from 19th century indivdualist anarchists like Lysander Spooner.

Classical Liberalism ended when they updated economic theory in the 1930's.

this chart shows the evolution of American political movements.

color coded for similarity in relations

Basically

Liberalism
>"you can do whatever the fuck you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others and you take responsibility for your actions"

Progressives
>"the state should enforce equality among all groups and redistribute power/wealth from the strong to the weak"
