Those are actually Russians sanctions on Europe. Russia ordered that it's illegal to import food from Europe. European sanctions were aimed at Russian officials and large companies: freezing their assets and prohibiting from raising capital on the European markets.

I'd say it's quite the opposite. US has plenty of cards, some of which are very sensitive to Russia:
1. Ukraine. It can force Ukrainian government to do whatever it wants. Ukraine issue is the most sensitive to Russia and Putin.
2. Lift sanctions, which would also mean EU lifting them. Russia will survive under them, but they do cause damage to Russian business and opportunities.
3. Red pill the world regarding MH17 by revealing more info about those "satellite images" that US claimed to have.
4. Start a real fight against terrorists in Syria. No more "Assad must go".
5. Stop missile defense shield, move US military away from former former USSR and Warsaw pact countries.

There's probably going to be a moment where the two will clash, it's inevitable since USA and Russia have two very different agendas when it come to Europe.
Putin would gladly see the EU collapse and becoming weaker on the military side, while the USA have every interest in a strong EU, if anything to use them as a proxy between them and their enemies.
