Hi, Sup Forums. I've just started practicing Christianity.
Should I become denominational? If so, which? I admire the extravagance of the Eastern church, but my familial roots are in the Catholic church. Yet I don't want to be affiliated with Pope Cuck.
I'm biased as hell since I grew up with it, but Episcopalian is pretty based. Though in some ways it is Catholicism-lite

“Choose life Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently And choose watching history repeat itself Choose your future Choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn Choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work And choose the same for your kids, only worse, and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen And then… take a deep breath You’re an addict, so be addicted Just be addicted to something else Choose the ones you love Choose your future Choose life”

Initially, the books at the heart of Christian life were the Jewish scriptures, and only gradually did specifically Christian books join them. The formation of the biblical canon was a fundamental element in the development of scripture's interpretation, as criteria for distinguishing the right books and for judging right interpretation were established at the same time: the so-called rule of faith or canon of truth, used by Irenaeus in opposition to the Gnostics, provided those necessary criteria. Ultimately this ‘canon’ was expressed in credal form, and scripture and creed were seen as mutually dependent. However, another element in the determination of which books were canonical was usage, and this implies that the development of liturgy and homiletics is essential in the spectrum of subjects necessary in order to get a true sense of the place and meaning of scripture in the developing life of the Church

Also remember your salvation is in your relationship with Jesus not a "church" or building or denomination, no priest or pastor can proxy for you only Jesus. Welcome to the senpai

From my experience, it emphasizes the ideals of Jesus and the Bible rather than getting stuck on pedantic. It focused on teaching both young acolytes and older members about the virtues of charity, altruism, and forgiveness.
My church regularly rented out it's spare rooms whenever possible to businesses and locals to pay for it's maintenance, and doubled as a homeless shelter for the less fortunate whenever tragedy struck them(such as an entire family's home burning down------just terrible shit that can hit you out of nowhere).
That and our priest was the perfect mix of being down to Earth and always having this kindness to him-------even the memory of it inspires me now.
Not sure if that was unique----but it was noteworthy to me.

But why protestant contradict early Christian?

Catholicism isn't Christianity. Its a dangerous twisting of the bible. Read the KJV Bible yourself and trust in Jesus.

Is there a Sup Forums reading guide for essential readings outside the bible? Philosophical and historical works to enrich understanding for example?

Presbyterians, I believe have the most clear view of Scripture. Just don't join PCUSA, they've become very liberal, letting fags and women be appointed to church government iirc. Methodists are also lefties now. Baptists are pretty good. When they say fellowships together, it means eat.
My advice is to read Calvin (in addition to the Bible) and the Catechism and then see what denomination your beliefs line up most with. I think you'll find PCA Presbyterianism to be pretty straightforward in its interpretation of Scripture.
That being said, denominations are secondary (well, there are some huge differences between Catholicism and Protestantism: purgatory, saints, intercession, indulgence). Focus on understanding the Bible and practicing its teachings in your everyday life.

It's supposed to represent the satanic force that controls the Catholic "church". The Pope wants to be the anti-Christ.
Colton Allen
all the church fathers are wrong.

Popes change, and they're infallible only when talking ex cathedra (protip: this happened twice in history and It's basically just a trump card to solve THEOLOGICAL disputes and nothing else). You could also just be Lefevrian (catholics that think the pope is illegit since council vatican II, basically protestants light) and get back when a Pope You like is in charge (everyone will call You pansy tho). Go read the Confessions of ST Augustine and some other texts (Interior Castle, Ascent of Mt Carmel, Filothea, Esichia, could of unknowing) before making a decision. Just remember: Catholic= Master Race Lefebvrian= pansyes but ok Orthodox= based but schismatics Protestants= Heretics due to jewish trickery, going extinct Mormons and Geova's Witnesses= actually pagans

They don't obey to the hyerarchy but their theology is fine.
>I get this completely, but I also want to start spending Sabbath with other folks who believe, and I like traditions.
Just remember, the real Sabbath is Friday (sundown) to Saturday (sundown), NOT the Catholic "Sabbath" day (Sunday).
The Papacy "moved" the Sabbath from its true day to Sunday as a "mark of their authority" upon Christianity. Therefore, it's not the true Sabbath God intended for us.
Hunter Lewis
do you support islam user? because the catholic church does

My Arabic isn't amazing The Sahih International English translation is pretty good. I reserve the right to refer to Arabic is some instances, for example the verse on menstruation.

>ignoring 1200 years of anal torture done in the name of jesus christ
The Roman Catholic Inquisition was one of the greatest disasters ever to befall mankind. In the name of Jesus Christ, Catholic priests mounted an enormous effort to kill all "heretics" in Europe and Britain. Heretics is defined whichever way Rome wanted it defined; it ranged from people who disagreed with official policy, to Hermetic Philosophers [Black Magick Practitioners], to Jews, to Witches, and to the Protestant reformers.
Slaughtering one's enemies is clearly rotten spiritual fruit. During the early part of His ministry, Jesus was approached by two of His disciples -- James and John -- who had just returned from preaching the Gospel message throughout parts of Israel. These two disciples were upset, for some entire towns had refused to even hear their message; they asked the Lord:
"Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?" [Luke 9:54]
Jesus was horrified. He replied:
"You do not know of what sort of spirit you are, for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them from the penalty of eternal death." [Luke 9:55-56;
Let us repeat that most pertinent phrase: "the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives".
Anthony Gonzalez
Why, do you want to curse me?
Easton Perez
You don't trust msm on anything except when it comes to insult the Pope. Good job.
>I admire the extravagance of the Eastern church, but my familial roots are in the Catholic church. Yet >I don't want to be affiliated with Pope Cuck. Sounds like Orthodox is the path to take. Personally I'm in more or less the same boat. I was raised protestant (Baptist/Lutheran curches mostly while growing up) but I do like the traditionalism of the Catholics and am looking into Orthodoxy myself.
Ian Peterson
You sure have some strange fixation with these allegations of anal torture, heretic. Do they excite you?
