I'm a tech worker (software development) in a major city in WA. While I'm not against people trying to find a better life for themselves, H1-B is typically used to not only undercut the American worker but basically makes you a slave to the company you work for. There are a lot of companies in my area run by permanent resident Indian nationals which exclusively use H1-B labor - and the reason seems to be so they can undercut other American companies and completely abuse their staff. I'm talking yelling, screaming, abuse. Nobody wins.
This is the real game changer, H1B is killing America
Thomas Taylor
WOO FUCKING HOOOOO :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Austin Garcia
I know, right? This is gonna be incredible if this goes through, especially in my area. There's literally tons of jobs, but people out of college are competing globally for them.
Christopher Flores
This is what I've been waiting for. Now watch the libs flock to defend their corporate overlords in the name of inclusiveness
Austin Morris
I hope this results in libcucks with lusty lavender colored hair taking shits on the street with india poo's in a show of solidarity.
Isaac Sanchez
Going to be a whole bunch of techies suddenly conflicted over Trump. Just enough to start a subtle redpill for midterms
Thomas Bell
That's an interesting thought, and I agree. If they cut the labor supply everyone will immediately suffer, but long term the supply of domestic software developers should meet the demand.
Bentley Foster
Same here. I'm interested in what left leaning people will do, especially in my area. This is literally taking food out of their kids mouths.
Hope you're right.
Caleb Lopez
Good the guest worker programs are necessary but far too easily abused we've got the same problem here they will all suddenly be able to get a job in their field rather than slaving away at starbucks/walmart
Jason Brooks
Excellent, this is literally the biggest reason Trump won my vote.
Robert Adams
It's like they weren't satisfied by giving menial labor to illegal aliens, they had to give skilled labor to visa holders because fuck paying real wages to Americans.
Gavin Robinson
Not gonna lie, former Trump voter here. This is fucking hilarious watching Trump crash and burn. But in all seriousness we can't let this guy get the nuclear codes.
Bentley Jenkins
This would honest to god be the best thing that President Trump does during his whole 8 years for me personally. I'm finishing a bachelor's in Computer Networking and Systems Administration, and the entire fucking networking industry is overrun by poo's. It's amazing. You can't even go on a good reference site or watch a networking video on Youtube without a Poo making a fucking comment in broken English. They also overrun my major at my university, and companies love to hire them for the diversity boners they get. Fuck them all, this is a game changer. They do shitty work (ha) and don't give a shit about the tasks they are given, they just do whatever they want.
Jaxson Morris
Don't forget the convenience stores and gas stations aren't going to be able to get cheap labor either.
I mean I like Jack, he's a good guy, but fuck him.
Juan Edwards
...
Michael Adams
It's true there's gonna be a shortage, but this (for once) is a shortage in favor of the American worker and not omnipotent corporations. My dad worked in my field back in the 80s, and it was typical to hire people with nontraditional backgrounds (read: non-STEM) even for technical positions. Now with the flood of applicants from all over the globe, companies will literally not look at you if you have less than an MBA or MS in some computer field. It's terrible, because a lot of these graduates suck to work with.
Austin Wright
Holy shit, I may consider going back to school.
Alexander Gomez
How? It's used by less than 0.1% of the population.
It doesn't mean work won't be outsourced, it just means they won't be coming here to do the work.
Blake Taylor
I totally agree. College graduates in in-demand fields shouldn't be forced to slave in the gulag because of 'muh experience' boomers in tech.
Totally agree. Good luck to you guys.
I don't think gas stations are hiring overseas labor. Visas aren't free, and paying the fees and legal bullshit to hire a cashier sounds excessive. I dunno though.
Luke Phillips
Not gonna lie, former Trump voter here. This is fucking hilarious watching Trump crash and burn. But in all seriousness we can't let this guy get the nuclear codes.
Carson Reed
Just my 0.02, but there's a ton of value in being able to see people you work with and not having to work across timezones. I'm not saying this is a silver bullet, but the reduction onshore of tech "staffing" companies would be a huge boon to tech workers locally as supply is cut and tech companies have to consider other (American) ways to fill positions.
Plus, I work in the tech industry, the boomers who run things WILL NOT work anywhere outside 9-5 to get things done. H1-Bs, however, are often forced to pull 16 hour days (8 hours coding, and the rest is waking up so you can talk with Indian overseas teams). It's literally slave labor.
Ian Perry
It's gutting the tech industry by depressing wages. It's not a random 0.1% of the population. Turn 0.1% of your cells to brain cancer cells and see what happens
Nolan Scott
What? The tech field has tons of jobs and high salaries in the US as is. This shouldn't have been the motivating decision for you.
Also just get some IT certs rather than going back full time if you already have a job, far cheaper and can get you just as far if you're competent.
James Long
Not having to compete with a billion street shitters on the other side of the planet is a pretty big redpill
Jonathan Bell
Will it depart all poo's in the loo
Xavier Perez
The damage common core has done, it will take years to rectify
Logan Price
It seems to obvious to be a redpill.
Why? So you can be forced to train you Streetshiter replacements before you get fired?
Of course it's depressing wages, but "reform" isn't going to end outsourcing and it's a drop in the bucket.
I agree it's long overdue, but this doesn't mean shit to most people.
Daniel Nguyen
CANNOT FUCKING WAIT until H-1B is abolished. It will happen, and it's going to be glorious.
Praise Bannon. Praise Sessions. And of course, the God Emperor. Lefties, watch your legacy crumble.
Jackson Powell
I'm not super concerned about people like Satya or Sundar - they've been in-country for years and are literally the best of the best (I've met the one on the right).
What I AM concerned with is low-level developer positions being farmed out to foreign H1B workers. Why? Because it not only depresses wages and undercuts companies that hire locally, but allows said companies to literally indenture foreign workers.
This has literally happened in my area - "Don't want to work 14 hours to complete an promise made by our delusional sales team? Great, you're fired. You have 1 week to leave the country (seriously) - good luck breaking your lease, selling your car, and leaving it all behind because H1Bs are literally nonpersons without a job to justify the visa.
Gavin Brown
Good, can you please annex NZ while you're at it? Scummiest shit goes on with H1-B1's here as well.
Aiden Taylor
I agree with the changes made to the H1-B program, they were definitely necessary but even before the changes the IT industry was very
Kayden Morris
>"reform" isn't going to end outsourcing But a tariff on foreign products will.
Christopher Lopez
Good, but the proposal would only fix some parts of it.
The whole program should really axed.
Jordan Ortiz
The best part? If these companies try outsourcing to people working in India instead, they're likely gonna get hit with a hefty tax.
Logan Jones
Yes it will if the companies that want to outsource are penalized for doing it.
Ethan Price
about time!!!
Ryder Morris
Yes, this change is not enough, it needs to be abolished,
Andrew Cox
Eh, I think it harms the industry in the long run. I've heard horror stories about Pajeet's spaghetti code, and when you hear about the mass cheating incidents in India, it really makes you wonder what kind of quality we're getting. It's possible this outsourcing is encouraging the industry to build a dangerous skill deficit, which could get nasty.
You banned our nuclear-powered warships from your ports, so enjoy your enrichment.
>are literally the best of the best
Do they have their own private designated shitting streets?
Justin White
HE
Jackson Cooper
you, on the other hand, can completely rectumfy a nation in a far shorter timeframe
Jaxson Bell
you know what also happens is entry level jobs literally evaporate and no one hires young nationals because "no experience lol"
Jordan Jenkins
How many times are we going to watch us train our immigrant replacements?
What often happens is companies either outsource to the lowest bidder, or bring in the cheapest workers they can get. Later, the code they're left with is absolute garbage, and they end up spending a hell of lot more bringing in expensive contractors and consultants to fix it than they would have done if they had just hired Americans in the first place.
Easton Long
>You banned our nuclear-powered warships from your ports Blame the French for being shit cunts and giving our hippies the highground. Also it's all ships as (with good reason) your Navy doesn't disclose which is nuclear or not.
Charles King
How many times are we going to just sit here and take it?
Asher Barnes
Hey Sup Forums F1 Business graduate from Russia here.
I am going to a career fair tomorrow. How do I make sure the companies will hire me and not Indians/Chinese?
Put in your favorit "liberal" tech company then sort by salary.
No way Apple Inc should be outsourced 36k/year Graphic Design jobs.
Cameron Torres
Yeah.. let's hire a bunch of immigrants who have ZERO leverage and are virtual slaves to depress our wages, and then spit in our faces while we're forced to train our slave replacement.
Trump needs to fully abolish H1B.
Sebastian Ortiz
lebowitz
Xavier Wright
>and completely abuse their staff. I'm talking yelling, screaming, abuse
Is there a specific reason they do this? What could there be to shout about?
Landon Martinez
Yea it should be pretty interesting.
The biggest threat is mainstream media subverting this with emotional appeals for global humanitarian rights.
I've been in conversations where management preferred to hire two shit tier overseas resources instead of a single domestic. I left that company to start my own and work on job creation, I couldn't be happier about this too.
Maybe it will start pushing against unpaid internships as well. If you can't hire some shit tier overseas resources for cheap, might as well hire a domestic cheap resource and train him.
Ryan Murphy
No, you should make it ridiculously expensive (like the Company has to pay their wages in tax on top of a high salary) so only the very best can get in and only after an attempt has been made to hire/train a citizen.
Joseph Campbell
Cause many H1-B1 workers are just shit workers.
Samuel Allen
Cheat somehow to get the job, Sup Forums tells me all the Indians and chinks cheat to get jobs
Hudson Fisher
On top of everything, the primadonna out of touch Silicon Valley morons perpetuate the largest wage fixing cartel in history.
Take your shit salary, and if you don't like it, we'll replace you with a perma-bondage immigrant slave, and on top of it we'll collude with every other company so you can never move from job to job and negotiate a better salary.
Do you realize that top engineers would be making $500k to $1M per year EASY with no H1B and punishment for these scumbag Valley traitors?
Josiah Sanders
>flag
Colton Gonzalez
check the stocks for tech companies, they all took a good hit yesterday.
apart from twitter which for some reason made pretty decent gains
Charles Kelly
Oy vey, now I cant pay minimum wage for highly experienced workers. How will I be able to keep my company from going under?
William Jones
It's the same in Silicon Valley. These "skilled" H1Bs are taking all of the entry level IT jobs that could be going to young Americans. Indian staffing agencies owned and run by Indians funnel the jobs to their compatriots. I'm glad Trump is cracking down on this.
Charles Baker
Yes, fine. Admit a max of 500 people. That's it.
I'm talking Rainman calibre people here.
If you can't cite pi to a thousand decimals, you can't get in type shit senpai.
Just cause you have a PhD from some shit poo university doesn't make you a one in a million specialist.
Jack Wright
Are they seriously finally getting this under control?? If so, then thank fuckin Christ it's finally happening. I wonder if trump had something to do with it? I can only imagine what would have happened if Hillary had won. We'd be up to our goddamn necks with pajeets and spics!
Nolan Mitchell
Sorry there are no Russian employment kickback mills besides Brighton Beach maybe.
Levi Young
The proposed H1B reforms do not go far enough... but it's a start for sure.
David Rogers
Usually it's just typical workplace bullying and abuse - but imagine if you literally had the economic futures of the employees in your hands.
Some of the glassdoor.com profiles of these companies are horror stories - how the (usually Indian) CEO routinely comes around to harass you, to insult your career path, and to demand Dickensian working conditions from you. Don't like it? Fuck you, I'll just hire another desperate H1B, and leave you to pick up the pieces- which usually involve an expensive plane ticket home as well as having to liquidate all your assets in the US.
It makes good employers bad, and bad employers and managers complete nightmares. They know they own you. This isn't fair for anyone.
Camden Brooks
A little less draconian, but definitely make H1B1's less desirable than hiring/training a local.
Brayden Stewart
I just have to laugh out of my fucking ass when Canadian tech companies try to offer programming wages
The average is literally 60-70K CAD (45-55K USD) and maxes out at 100K CAD, with 120-130 the extreme maxes. 150K CAD (110K)+ is unheard regardless of experience.
Today in Silicon Valley new grads with 0 experience are getting 200K USD (270K CAD) all-in. 250-500K USD is the normal salary for a senior (10+ years experience) coder, with some companies paying higher (ie. Netflix, 500+ for some positions).
Canada has the Temporary Foreign Worker program, which is identical to your H1-B, except we let in 200,000 for a population of 35M, vs your 65K for a population of 320M.
William Myers
Go look in your local physical newspaper job section.
They don't post these jobs online, they just post them in some obscure newspapers and that's apprently enough to skirt around the whole POINT of the system.
Go read your local newspaper and try applying. If the ad looks sketchy, threaten to report them to the government.
Camden Powell
it's why it is important he does it now, so his rest-term is long enough that people can experience the positive aspects
Chase Flores
who /STEM/ degree here?
Blake Wood
Trudeau's big plan is to bring in 350,000 more "tech workers"... WTF?
This is a direct attack on Canadians.
Christopher Baker
This sort of thing seems to be less prevalent in tech companies on the east coast, for whatever reason.
Justin Adams
I'd go tactical bowlcut if that happened.
I've seen estimates that H1B Jewry depresses tech wages:
He's bringing in 200K TFW's, 300-400K economic/family reuni, 100K refugees (might be unlimited soon) and 82K foreign students, all non-white.
Caleb Rodriguez
If you go on places like Hacker News, it's amazing how many of them are fucking deluded. But with this issue coming to the fore, they are starting to realize...
Sup Forums go make HN accounts, i know you're not my army... but
Jaxon Allen
the problems with the poos is that they can write some code that initially works but if there's ever any fucking problem with it you better don't even try to understand what the shit they did but just write it from scratch again
means that you can make short term gains by employing tons of them and that is all that matters nowadays, because by the time the consequences catch up with you the CEO already left anyway
Luis Peterson
By 2030 Canada will be 25M white, 25M non-whites
Joseph Sullivan
THANK CHRIST
Nathaniel Williams
WTF that's 1 million immigrants?
What happened to all his other promises?
Day of the rake when?
Gabriel Gonzalez
I proudly chose to go to Law School instead!
Christian Nguyen
I'm sure that will work out great user, it's not like there's a glut of law school grads or anything
Brody Morales
fuck can >we have Drumpf? Exact same thing happens here
Levi Martin
Poo in the Loo's are fucking idiots
Most of them have no higher abstract mathematical abilities, so they can't do any complicated algorithmic work. All they can do is write basic scripts.
They can't even fucking conjugate English verbs properly
Jose Green
No Poo in the Loo knows what a pointer is, how to initialize them or dereference them
God forbid a Poo be asked to initiate an array of strings in C
Nicholas Sanchez
immigrant wokers. are better than american lazy unloyal. ungrateful workers.
Grayson Evans
Yes exactly - watch the video of scumbag lawyers running conferences showing how companies can get around the H1B rules to abuse the law. They do it all the time.
Jordan Price
>Poo detected
Josiah Hill
You're fighting the good fight. I wish you the best.
Not always, but a lot of staffing companies "polish" resumes of people they intake for H1B. This generally means lying, even if the worker had nothing to do with it - then the worker gets shit when the client finds out they don't know how to work to that level of experience.
I hear you. Write your congressman (parliament member?) my man.
Saw that too. Twitter's not doing great in general though. Not enough income.
Absolutely. Write your congressman, my man.
This could be the USA, guys. It needs to be prevented.
I think proximity. Indian and Chinese nationals form the bulk of H1B visas, and Silicon Valley/Seattle companies seem to prefer hiring from these nations (closer on the map? not sure). I do know that a lot of Indians like in my area because there's an established Indian community already - they don't really have to "completely leave home". East Coast I would imagine you really have to assimilate - it's probably seen as more "hostile" to Indian and Chinese communities.
Nicholas Campbell
How are Liberals going to oppose this one?
Or do they hate workers now?
It's open borders and fuck workers and unions?
Justin Taylor
Silicon Valley worker here - H1Bs are really a plague. I've worked for a number of the big tech companies here and what's kind of a little known secret is that Indians are SUPER racist. Once you get one or two indians in a job, suddenly you look up and they've filled ALL the rest of the positions with other indians. Most of whom are H1Bs. It isn't just the pay difference, it's cultural and language based as well. Indians just want to work with other indians.
Whites are getting pushed out of the silicon valley tech companies in any but the top positions. Start ups are almost all white and asian guys. Then when you get to around 500-1000 employees suddenly they're mostly indians in any of the new lower level jobs. There's not really any place here in the bay for the 'moderately skilled' white guy worker.
Eli Green
What with their need to afford rent, eat, work legal day lengths and not be beaten.
Nolan Nelson
That's really sad man, not sure if conditions will be any different for Indians back home which really sucks.
Samuel Flores
American workers are better if you care about long-term business viability because they're more likely to call out their manager as full of shit. H1-Bs tend to be yes-men.
Owen Hill
You know why they hire fellow Poo's right? They pay them off, in addition to being super racist
Kayden Harris
thank you god. i'm tired of this nation being sold out to jews and niggers, in all their forms.
Brayden Smith
This, they abused a system intended to benefit both parties, chickens are coming home to roost
