It has been somewhat of a "super power" in the middle east and isn't used to having someone controlling it. Even the Roman Empire had to "pay" the Sassanids to make sure they would "be in their place". This is the true reason to why Iran is despised by many. It is mainly its own fault. It has an arrogance towards the west and other super powers, and thinks its still living in the Sassanid Days where nobody could control it.
The country is suffering from a severe case of "national narcissism" and delusion of grandeur. This makes them hard to communicate and compromise with, which has in turn generated a hatred against it from its neighboring countries.
