Only an enlightened leadership tbqh

Modern Architecture is just money laundering.

both are good.

this is ugly.
old buildings should never be replaced.
do you know in downtown there is buildings 100+ years old. they are maintained by italians who care. just to sheer you up.

>Algerian tastes

No they really are not, the modern building is a typical soulless square, we have alot of them in scandinavia and they completely destroy the otherwise old feel that alot of our towns/cities have.

No. Next question please.

Sounds nice, why are italians maintaining it?

>2nd pic

Is there a website with more comparisons like this?

They keep getting taken down by you know who.

...

>enlightened

Dark occultist cannibals and pedophiles have been ruling western society and the world really for thousands of years.

Leadership was not more enlightened before, the rats have been in control and still are.

no country is safe

These are both from Stockholm. Both sad examples of big parts of our city was destroyed during the 50's and 60's to make room for new "modern brutalist concrete" buildings.

you understand backwards it seems. i said the exact opposite of what you thought i said.

heritage i dont know. its nice by the way.

Budapest, Kálvin square

There is a plan to make architecture ugly and plain and boring rather than inspiring and beautiful.
It's basically to make us feel empty inside and think the world is ugly and have no hope or dreams in a deep psychological way.

It's super effective.

thats exactly how i feel.

that 3rd column is here in Birmingham. It upset a few days ago to read that they just knocked the previous buildings down just because "they needed a bigger library". They've actually removed that concrete monstrosity now but in place they're building this which is again just boring glass and flat surfaces

you can follow "Architecture MMXII" on facebook

Thank god his Paris plan never made it to fruition.

...

Can it? Maybe.
Will it? Probably not, it would seek to build the most cost effective structure which is not always the most aesthetically pleasing.

Its very effective indeed

Actually user, Modernist architecture is dehumanizing because it's basically made by machines. It's just tons of materials made on mostly automated assembly lines.

We do this because it's cheap. As a society. we've decided that quantity is superior to quality. How many times have you bought something because it was cheaper? We're the problem.

It's mental weakness to ascribe the faults of our time to some mysterious higher power or organization. WE'RE the culprits.

this city calls to be nuked.

good it didnt happen, or paris would be turned into glass by a likely minded fellow.

Hail, Columbia!

Joke's on you, the megablocks are designed to survive nukes.

Over here people seem to believe that building the tallest, most bling bling skyscraper is the greatest status of power, be it the government or private investors.

Which is why you see places like Shanghai and Macau.

I would understand if the building was destroyed by war or the actual structure was collapsing. The fact that most of buildings in this thread were destroyed or "remodeled" for the purpose of "updating" the looks is infuriating. I hate it when history is destroyed or rewritten for the sake of a vocal minority at the time. Any monument or historical building should be maintained under penalty by the government as long as it isn't a public hazard. If you forget your history then you are doomed to repeat it. That is often quoted, but people don't understand it's practical policy. This is actively destroying history to forget about it.

>However, of its 15,000 protected rural religious buildings, 2,800 are "in peril", according to l'Observatoire du Patrimoine religieux, a religious heritage watchdog.

What does pol think of Fumihiko Maki?.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fumihiko_Maki

IMO it's hyper-modern without being soulless. Very "of its time" but not bad at all. You can see how it has influenced lots of soulless architecture though.

No, it doesent look much better. Birmingham in general has been devastated by modernism

>Pic related

Building a tower in an empty desert is ok.
Tearing down a century old palace to make space for it, is not.

I dont know I like art deco alot

The University of Ottawa is probably the ugliest uni I have ever seen. Nasty Brutalist architecture everywhere(pic related is the library). Their Social Sciences building isn't bad (has a hanging garden) but their engineering building is a joke as well with that neo-industrial look.

ya the free market can produce aesthetic stuff, it just needs to be convinced that the aesthetic will enhance profits.

Never palm trees found better mates.
as you see buildings here are maintained. and full of live the mornings, and calm when the sunsets.

t. free market aesthetic

Brutalist is fucking soul crushing
>just cubes and rectangles xd

that building screams "I HATE HUMANS THEY ARE INCESTIOUS INSECTS"

Literally the best architectural style, everything else is shit-tier.

Yes, becuase only when the state has full control can beautiful things arise!

UW is awful as well, here's the math building.

It might look like the building has many windows, but those are all connected to faculty offices, there isn't a single window visible from the interior of the structure unless you are in a staff member's office.

Architecture in general has gone to shit in this country. Modernism is a cancer that needs to be purged. Also, no one builds aesthetic homes either anymore. Cheap as stucco and ugly siding is the new thing in home building. Even many new custom homes fall for the stucco/beige/gray/flat meme.

That hurts me

coming through with the worst looking building built on one of the most prestigious areas in the world.

>inb4 hurr it's only Washington dc not Rome

Here's some state control for you.

Why do you guys hate your country's history so much? Did you just get bored of being first world or what?

this.

It really cannot. The free market will reward whoever works most efficiently, and aesthetics and efficiency don't go too well hand in hand most of the time.

Some more state.

That's digusting.

What does Sup Forums think of my Uni xp

(UOIT)

in the UK we have laws protecting buildings like this

hence why most of our train stations will have half Victorian brickwork and half modernist design, the architects have to build on top of the existing architecture. So we get a lot of Frankenstein designs as a result

yeah but this screams
>I FUCKING LOVE THE HUMAN RACE

wtf badabababa I'm lovin' it now

And more for (((you)))

You

i feel like the building is worshiping its visitors.

University of Ottawa Engineering building. They use the lego color set throughout the building.

Will post the outside in another post.

Still, vasts ammounts of architecture were destroyed, especially in the 60s.

Art Deco is a celebration of human achievement, as opposed to most modernist styles which despise humanity and the human spirit in general. It is the direction architecture should have taken, but instead we went backwards.

this is an intentional shitpost though.

Bottom pic's building looks like it was designed in a Doom map editor

Its like a culmination of all of the west's architectural aesthetic, Gothic and classical architecture form into something while modern and looking far into the future has a solid foundation in the beauty of our past

pic related is also intentional, doesn't make it right

Have to agree with this. I'm pretty sure architecture is just one of many things reflective of the times: mechanical and soulless architecture will fit in with a mechanical and soulless culture.

Hardly the case. People overpay all the fucking time. You only need to look at Apple if you want an example for that.

These ugly as shit buildings are mostly public construction, the average guy has zero input on any of it.

...

That one building doesn't make up for the countless disgusting commie blocks that pollute Russia.

Holy shit it looks exactly like the UW Davis Center, easily one of the worst eyesores I have ever witnessed in my life.

I can't believe this """style""" actually exists in multiple places on Earth, who came up with this shit?

I could agree totally, Wow whats that building its schokingly alpha. no one can question the existence of that building.

Fascist architecture

Problem is there are no trees, no animals and too much concrete at one place.

Is this an example of good or bad architecture, Sup Forums?

Wtf are you implying? The only reason architecture is so poor compared to complexity od classical design and sculpture, is the lack od funds. During XX century socialism destroyed the economy of a majority of western countries, and due to technological progress, the monet were moved from architecture to more crucial areas. And we were left with a demand for cheap, and functioning buildings, with aesthetics being the smallest factor

>That one building doesn't make up for the countless disgusting commie blocks that pollute Russia.
All Asian countries are filled with commieblocks, capitalist and communist ones alike. It's simple rationality and cost-saving,

Borderline.

Rate my campus' old main, I love it

coventrytelegraph.net/news/local-news/coventry-history-how-build-ugly-8918564

Coventry, where I live, is just down the road from Birmingham and is an ugly concrete mess. Was devastated by WW2 and rebuilt like absolute cheap grey shit. Then the Swedish cucks put a disgusting IKEA building in to ruin it even more. The above article nails it.

While I hate seeing old buildings destroyed, if they were replaced with art-deco styled ones, I would be less upset.

Just: leave the building as is but hammer all the aestetics in it

I think you need to check the amounts of money countries like Germany are pouring into soulcrushing buildings gain.

The costs are fucking insane, they pay more for one of those ugly as shit blocks than other countries have as GDP.

you are aware if this vandalisation happened in ancient time there would be serious consequences, resulting in the birth of a legend due to story telling the consequence trough the generation.

very comfy
