Why is American Infrastructure Shitty?

Why is everyone okay with it? They act like what they see when they walk outside their homes is alright.

Pic related is Dearborn, Michigan. (And this is considered a DECENT area compared to what else Michigan has to offer (Detroit)

Because your whole infrastructure was built upon extremely cheap fossil fuels and built everything around the car culture.
Fuels getting costly in absolute energy terms (EROEI) and your industries have been exported into Asia by your unpatriotic corporations and greedy banks.

Our decent areas here are mostly just road, and plazas to the side.

Roads are handled by local governments, lots of incompetent local governments in the US. They'd rather build a center for inclusion and trans-islam rights than fix our roads.

this. infrastructure is usually fine except in liberal areas that fuck everything up

>fill area full of niggers and shitskins dependent on government handouts
>pay for infrastructure

You can choose one.

Roads have become shittier and shittier everywhere. Except maybe Germany.

We have no problem building stuff, it's just repairing the old stuff, we slack on.

Houses? Tear them, put up a luxury high rise for yuppies. Fields? Now it's 350 starter homes in a subdivision. Etc. etc.

I don't like suburb car culture, either, but the country is astoundingly massive and overwhelmingly rural, especially during the development boom. We really built more than we could maintain. Now, all we can do is build new stuff somewhere else, and let bugs have the old.

Because roads are handled by state departments of transportation which are controlled by the State Capital which means only the state capital gets new roads while the rest of the towns rely on county funds which amounts to fuck all so unless the infrastructure gets so bad that the capital can no longer ignore it, it just keeps going to shit.

Those Panda Express, Home Depot, towns, outside of urban centers? The real nice areas are luxury high rises where hipster neighborhoods once stood. The highway plazas are just new, is all.

Nigs autocorrects to bugs, apparently.

How else do you design something that must withstand the elements 24/7, support 80000 lb loads, must not deform, and have a lifespan of 20-50+ years?

Roads are expensive to build and upkeep, and America has the largest and most effectient network in the world bar none. literally can be seen from space, fuckin 8th world wonder

The designers rush everything instead of carefully planning to make things look aesthetically beautiful.

And who will pay for it?
And will be any higher quality than the 40-year-ld-already-crumbling pieces of shit?
Sorry, lads. The empire began to crumble, and it will be worse.

Because anything which falls under the responsibility of Government always ends up in a state of disrepair. The free-market is much more efficient, infrastructure would be in a far better state (in the US and here in the UK) if the government just got out the way.

holy fuck thats fantastic compared to here

It was built up before the infrastructure was built up in other countries.

>Michigan

found your problem OP

Because the government has been siphoning money from taxes into wars and black operations to line the pockets of the elites instead of spending it on the people.

Dearborn, MI is a haven for mudslimes. Its probably the biggest Muslim community in the U.S.

LOL Southeast Michigan is the real contender here. The Upper Peninsula I hear is really nice and Northern portions of Lower Peninsula are nicer looking, less people too

hit the nail on the head

Oh totally, have you seen the mosque here? Pic related

That mosque is right in front of a Detroit Neighborhood. You can see an arsoned house from the parking lot in the back LOL

hurrdurr. one of the biggest arguments against you libertarian extremists is the >MUH ROADS argument. when it comes to infrastructure, the return of profit is so intangible its returns can only be seen on a societial level. thats perfect for governments, tho. this is why infrastructure, fire depts, and police get subsized

Because that's in Michigan where it routinely freezes in the winter and gets hot in the summer.

Concrete expands and contracts due to this crazy magic-like thing called heat, and forms cracks, so you have to maintain it.

Yeah, I know, this is some rocket science level shit we're dealing with here, OP.

Obviously, countries such as Vietnam, Europe, and China are where the high tech infrastructure is at the moment. They use dirt or don't drive and are slaves to their elitist run governments. Communism and environmentalism is god-tier.

>tfw in Jacksonville
>tfw endless construction since before I was born

Because stuff is expensive.

You want up to date, move to a burgeoning economy where people are comfortable paying tax and comfortable with their governments borrowing to finance.

Not only talking about roads, just the overall structure of towns, where cities just aren't walkable

That looks like an entry way to a shopping area not a publc road. The land lord is responsible for the parking lot and entryway as its private property.

We spend billions repairing our roads every year

Oh, well we can afford gas and don't have 150% car taxes, so that works.

Niggers.

The returns are only "so intangible" because of government regulations and tonnes of ridiculous paperwork and contracting to health and safety bs which wouldn't be necessary in a free-market system.

Pic Related, Downtown Dearborn. Area maintained by mostly whites and actual integrated arabs

>Dearborn Michigan is considered a nice area

Money is spent on the army and other countries such as Israel and Egypt instead. 3 trillion in Iraq.

pisses me off commentators like Ben Shapiro talking down infrastructure spending

a country needs SOME """socialism""" to upkeep roads

that cunt won't say anything about the treasure America expended in the Middle East but woe betide anyone suggesting, as a relative part of the budget, infrastructure be boosted

youtube.com/watch?v=r2TxX0E4U1A

Replace mental hospitals with road infrastructure

Something not being addressed in this thread is climate.Mchigan roads are subject to salt and weather other roads are not which increases cost of upkeep. Go to a better climate, voila better roads.

I'm from Ohio I think the Cold War look is a byproduct

>government
>competence
there can be only one.

The driveway and apron are the responsibility of the mall owner not the government.

>not saying there isn't plenty of disrepair on government maintained streets. Only that OP's example is retarded.

>Why is American Infrastructure Shitty?
you had a 3rd worlder as president
for 8 years
what did you expect?
But calm down, Trump will fix it.

This is pretty close to where I live in PA. A worker stumbled upon pic related and this major link between PA and NJ will be closed for months. They don't know how it happened. Seems mildly suspicious tbqh.

Our roads are fine unless its a backwater injun city.

>a city so shit the muslim area is the nice area

Aren't California's roads some of the worst in the country

>tfw i basically live in a big shopping mall
>smokestacks and mcdonalds as far as the eye can see
>my town will never be this comfy or have any interesting structures
Why live

It's this combined with the taxbase. If the area isnt affluent then the taxbase is little and city has no money to spend.

oh, snap

Well, we have same problem here, shity roads, just the autobahne(highways) are good that's it, in the city is like in fucking shithole sometimes.

Sorry you live in a shit state

>Roads are the ultimate argument for government
>Crumbling infrastructure everywhere

Really makes me think.

You know taxes on gasoline pay for roads right?

Texas has high property taxes so we have nice public schools and roads.

In some areas, yes. CA has CALTRANS, the California Department of Transportation, that is one of the most corrupt and wasteful departments in the state. They are Union, too. They're a black hole that we pour billions into, while the road repairs are so backlogged they'll never catch up. It's a Dem stronghold, and any attempts to change them or hold them accountable are shit down immediately, the amount of taxes that are funneled through CALTRANS to Democratic friends of politicians for contracts, it's mind blowing.

If CALTRANS is involved, double the deadline and triple the cost, as soon as the contracts are signed, before the ink is even dry. They make the mob on the east coast look like amatuers.

I used to work in Oakland, next to the CALTRANS lot. It was full of trucks all day, with CALTRANS workers in them, sleeping. They'd wake up to go get lunch. Hundreds of them, every day.

>tfw you are europoor
>tfw your country has better roads than Germany
>tfw there are cutting-edge high speed trains but you can't afford it

hey burgers, hire spanish companies to deal with your roads. They do it cheap and with quality

American infrastructure was largely built during a period of massive economic growth. It was meant to be sustained in that kind of environment.

People built big because they thought it would last forever, but then it didn't. Now we have to scrape by and triage things. Some states are better than others--Texas, for example, has largely excellent roads compared to its neighbors.

We really don't have a problem at all. We handle things like road repairs on a city-by-city basis where the city and it's taxpayers vote on how to spend city tax money. Some stupid cities/city voters decide to not spend on roads or don't have the tax money in the first place.

Infrastructure is not Socialism. Infrastructure is Civilization.

>illinois is 16th best
jesus fuck
