Most can't afford charter schools.
Charter schools, being compared usually on the basis of things like grades, are known to do things like kick out students that need guidance or are challenged in some way down to the public schools.
People see a future where more people put their kids into private sector schooling, reducing peoples incentive to fund public schools.
Her track record isn't great at all, and at the same time she was a big donor to Trump, making people smell a bit of favoritism. The education system as a whole in Detroit wasn't improved by her presence, something that likely won't change now that the kids are all drinking lead.
I see charter schools as generally being something that haven't really been clearly successful at this point because of the weirdness of the incentives created. The entire idea behind charter schools is largely that the schools are more accountable to parents, which will make them perform better.
However, these incentives seem to have echoes of what went wrong with bush and his No Child Left Behind act which also applied measurable standards to school, leading to a culture of studying for tests, and widespread gaming of the system to get a school entitled to more funding.
If I'm being forgiving, Charter Schools still seem like an unproven experiment. If I'm being most honest, I don't believe the charter school system has worked out the kinks.
The only thing I really like about it is reducing liberal indoctrination.

As much as Sup Forums hates freeloading teachers, teachers are at least middle class citizens.
It's almost the stated goal of the charter school system to stop giving money to teachers unions, and start giving them to private school operators. The public school system may be big government, but the stated plan is to replace it with big business, with no real plan as to how to redress the resulting inequality created.
Test scores are not the be all end all I believe, and I still prefer the low achieving western school system to the Asian soul crushing factories. I don't believe these schools result in better workers or better people even if they result in higher test scores. Still, North America could learn from some European systems, which do have similar concepts to charter schools.

Charter schools ultimately reduce the size of government, while undermining socialism, so it's no wonder why Sup Forums likes them. Betsy Devos herself has shown thus far she isn't the woman to bring them to America all the same.
