You know that there's literally nothing wrong with Common Core, right?
You realize that Republicans oppose Common Core entirely because it teaches science without religion, right?
You know that all the memes you see that claim to make math look like it takes 12 steps are a complete mischaracterization and that Common Core actually teaches kids multiple ways to solve problems in their heads (including the original methods) which will make them more capable and less device-dependent for math than we ever were?
Common Core was finally going to make the US school system be on par from coast to coast and make it easier for someone in one state to go to college in another state and still be in sync. But hey, why bother doing something that makes sense, right?
nice try kike. Lowering the standards and doubling down on identity politics education is over. You and Bill Gates must die
Cooper Gomez
Prove it lowers educational standards.
Prove it forces identity politics without linking out of context and photoshopped memes.

>Multiple ways to solve a problem
Teach the concrete, simple way to expedite the education of the majority of the population. 99% of the population will not benefit knowing a more complex way to solve an arithmetic problem. Dr. Feynman summed this up in 1965:
>If we would like to, we can and do say, 'The answer is a whole number less than 9 and bigger than 6,' but we do not have to say, 'The answer is a member of the set which is the intersection of the set of those numbers which are larger than 6 and the set of numbers which are smaller than 9' ... In the 'new' mathematics, then, first there must be freedom of thought; second, we do not want to teach just words; and third, subjects should not be introduced without explaining the purpose or reason, or without giving any way in which the material could be really used to discover something interesting. I don't think it is worth while teaching such material.
Jonathan Mitchell
Can the GOP actually name something wrong with Common Core, or is that a stupid meme of theirs?
James Myers
i know a teacher who hates common core and also hates trump, explain that
Josiah Campbell
Other than lowering standards like we've already said.
You're wrong. Peoples' brains are different, and they found that some methods work better for some kids and others for other kids. As a whole, these methods have produced more capable kids as a whole.
There's nothing wrong with it, literally all the criticism has been misleading meme images. They just don't want science taught as a mandate.

No, not everyone's brain is a 100% unique special being. We do not need to teach 12 ways to multiple two numbers because 1% of kids don't understand method #7. Teach the method that works for the majority, those who fall through the cracks seek additional help outside the realm of public education.
How are these methods producing more capable kids if they cannot do simple arithmetic as efficiently as prior generations who learned a single way?
Owen Sullivan
OP is absolutely correct. Righties are just mad that their bullshit is finally being cleaned out of the US public school system, but they know they have no argument, so they cherrypick screenshots of idiot teachers who don't even know how to teach common core correctly. (In fact, nearly all of these are just right-wing teachers trying to make common core look bad.) The only REAL reason anyone opposes common core is as follows: >m-muh creationism >m-muh global warming denial >m-muh social studies that don't brainwash my kids with my conservative dogma and, less commonly, but in Sup Forums's case: >m-muh holocaust denial >m-muh teaching white kids not to be racist (yes, this is important to do in elementary school, if not sooner. Deal with it.) So, yeah. That's basically the whole "hurrr common core makes kids dumber" meme in a nutshell. >mfw I hear righties bitching about muh common core: youtube.com/watch?v=AvtqwSixHoY

Are you a teacher OP?
I am.
Common core is the most simplified system of education that could possibly exist and it doesn't work. It holds back the kids who are doing well and doesn't improve the grades of kids who are failing. The ones who are doing well, even if they go into AP, aren't being given an opportunity to excel because excelling doesn't fit into the standardized formula. You can praise its use in math all you want but the arts? A fucking shitshow. My supervisors don't want me giving specific examples in class (history) because "it'll confuse the kids" and "the real aim is Math and English literacy. Give simple handouts so they can read but that's it." >Talking about heresy and the medieval Church >Can't talk about the Cathars, Hussites, Lollards, Fraticellis, etc. >Can only talk about what every other teacher is talking about, which is a general LE EBIL CATHOLIC CHURCH POWER STRUCTURE >Can't assign readings from actual texts
Levi Williams
>multiple ways to solve problems in their heads (including the original methods) What are these 'original' methods? I can tell you right now algebra has none. This just sounds like some bullshit wording used in an attempt to make a fucking retarded scheme more attractive.
Ryder Butler
They don't need educated citizens. They need (((educated))) consumers.
Jason Myers
Common core is a money making scheme created and pushed by the Gates foundation.
I've seen the math techniques. I used to be a "mathlete," wizard, and minored in mathematics at a state university. And they are fucking retarded techniques no one would use. I never used them and I used to take timed tests to win awards. I feel bad for the future gen of kids who can't do anything without a calculator or try their best to use these garbage abilities. I've seen cashiers have to use their fingers to count change, they are not learning a god damn thing.
With English, why the fuck did they get away from phonetics? None of these young generation can spell worth fuck. Again, maybe I'm just a full functioning autist in academia, but fucking hell the next gen is dumb the last couple years.
Christian Thompson
(((Common Core))) Nuff said

Common core hasn't been around long enough to brainwash an entire generation. You're confusing common core with george soros
Cameron Taylor

In my own experience, the AP classes/exams did not even come close to replicating "equal" college level courses. I see students all the time skipping the first semester of calculus and jumping into calc II and failing miserably because they were under prepared.
David Sullivan
This image literally said nothing about common core that is concrete other than "it is a uniform national curriculum for K-12" and "they want to use video games to help kids learn"
...there is nothing inherently wrong with either of those things.
Strongest arguement is that some kids learn differently than other so there needs to be some flexibility to teaching styles to help kids learn. But other than that making sure that kids all reach the same level of knowledge by certain points again is not inherently bad (it seems like mostly a good thing to help make sure that these kids can function in society)

Very interesting way of phrasing: >we dropped the standards so more kids are getting "educated" Wanna know something great? My local public school had their 4th riot this year. Not school year either, 4th riot in 2017. Wanna know why? >Because a manlet cop told a 6'2" "gud boi" to stop pushing a female teacher into her desk, effectively restraining her >nog's friends proceed to jump the manlet cop, riot ensues. No, college is usually a horrendous difficulty spike. In my case it was the opposite because my uni is dumbed down for all the immigrants, affirmative action nogs, and foreign exchange students.
>"it is a uniform national curriculum for K-12" >uniform national Found your problem. In my classroom I have 10 kids who can't speak English (all speak different languages) and 3 with behavioral problems. Try giving everyone an equal education there. I literally have to make three sets of assignments - one for the kids who do the work, one in simplified English, and another that's basically "please write one thing down and stop screaming holy shit"

I'm an instructional designer. My biggest gripe with common core is that it no thought was given to a child's age appropriate development while trying to create course content. 5 and 6 year olds have a hard time with abstract reason yet common core jams frames down their throats. It doesn't align with a children's psychological development and makes no apologies about it.

Hunter Gonzalez
why don't you go fuck off with your common core. I graduated highschool in 2012, went to college, realized from years of common core not really prepping me for engineering that I fucked up, I was brainwashed into the college meme. So I said fuck it, if I cant do science cause I was too shit at labs I'll go do accounting since atleast I'll get SOMETHING out of stupidfucking college. And even at the college level you get fucked in the ass, like oh hey I wanna just take my accounting classes and leave? NO FUCK U KID go take your 120 credits cause hurr college standards.
All it did was make autists, I could barely do maths in elementary and had to get special kid help. I blew ass in middle school too and had to get extra help too. I then sucked at physics on both highschool and college level. All common core did was create autists that would go to college meme and realize they suck at it. Fuck that agenda, believe it or not not everyone has the mental focus and IQ to do STEM and should go do a trade or start working out of highschool. Fuck boomers and fuck their stupid kike agenda. I'll be glad as hell if trump defunds colleges and deflates the whole fkn education system.

I don't care in any way about the history or science aspects of common core, haven't even looked into it (although I imagine it being just as retarded), but someone please defend the math and defend not being able to help your child with their homework unless you also learn the (((curriculum))). I plan on homeschooling anyway, but this is sad children are being forced to learn this way.

But where did all of those other numbers come from?
The 1st number in the "working" problem was the last number in the original/main problem. Then you take the answer to the "working problem" and you make it the first number in the next addition problem.
Is it Add 1/4 then add 1/3 then add 1/2 But where does the 2 come from in the final working problem?
Nathaniel Flores
Wait...do you just use 2 in the last working problem because that makes up the difference between the 3rd answer and the first number of the original question?
Cooper Parker
They teach math to kids in such a way, the underdeveloped mind can't comprehend what is being told to them. Basic math becomes a tedious process instead of something that is an instinct (i.e. 7+16= 10 +10 + 10 - 3 -4=23 instead of 7+16=23). I'm not even going to go into the complete joke of literary requirements that is a part of common core
Ethan Hernandez
Damn. That image was far more fascinating than anything going on in the thread.
Jayden Cruz
I had to do that exact paper in High School. So yes, it is real.
Julian Ward
Essentially they're counting up to the difference, but doing it incrementally. Go up to the nearest 5, then 10s, then the answer or whatever.
Aaron Lopez
true, but when grown up you need processes like that to calculate like 56*56=56*50+ 5*56+56 is how i'd do it
Angel Howard
That image had to have been accurate too... that was a thread killer. You made the shill disappear. He was talking shit on everyone until you posted that, now he's gone. I'm betting this thread is being slid right now as he's working on a different one or several to get people away from this.
Jason Taylor
Addendum What we need is less spending on education and letting it go back to the states. Make education more about education and less about glorified test prep. I spent an entire year in 11th grade where I the teachers didn't make anyone read a book in English II because the test was the only thing that mattered. All we did was do sample test questions and it was a review of grade school grammar.
Nathaniel Sanchez
The bar has been lowered since it was implemented, what do you think is the explication of this?
Owen Adams
But a kid's brain can't think of numbers like that.
Josiah Martin
What is wrong with this?
It is good practice because writing in active voice is preferred in writing and is more engaging and direct.
Plus most of this kid's answers are right or close to right
1,2,3, 4 are all fine.
5 is slightly wrong because the kid left out the word "officials"- The government officials' commands must be obeyed by all
6 should be "An individual's wants are less important than the nation's well being", but the kid isn't terribly far off from what I can see.
Adrian Parker
all those loaded questions

This paper isnt really wrong. It helps kids think critically and not just either pick up the party who is currently in charge or what their parents believe.
These beliefs are all generally/around the heart of what either party believes.
Two party system isnt going away anytime soon and the green party is for idiots who want to throw away their vote.
Lincoln Scott
>I'm not even going to go into the complete joke of literary requirements that is a part of common core Multiply some large numbers using common core math. Make sure you at least one of the numbers is in the millions. Also, keep plenty of paper handy.
Its a total bullshit round-a-bout way. It overcomplicates simple methods that have been proven to work. Any time you take a simple process, and overhaul it to make it less complex you would expect that result.....Oh no, not here. I don't think that math could be any more streamlined than what it was. It is almost a language, and they are attempting to change the language of it. Yes it is foreign to people who can do division and multiplication on paper. I don't care about the idea of "abstract thought" horseshit. CC Math just makes it more abstract.
Kayden Bell
I can tell you right now, when you're trying to teach math that takes an hour or more to complete just a few problems, the only word that comes to mind are people with large noses who love manipulating numbers.
Aaron Morales

>Uniform national curriculum >Have different levels of students from different backgrounds I agree that it is difficult, but just because it is hard doesnt mean you shouldn't do it. You are a teacher- that is your job and what you are being paid to do.
The one thing I'll disagree with is holding back those who get it and are quick studies. If they've already grasped the material they should be able to move forward to some sort of independent study of sorts while you are finishing the lesson- or making sure that they do fully have a grasp of what they just learned.
I'm not saying everything should be exactly 1 to 1 regarding methods but material that needs to be covered and where teachers should be trying to get students to by 4th, 8th & 12th grade should all be at some minimal base level.
All 4th graders must be able to do at least X All 8th graders must be able to do at least Y All 12th graders must be able to do at least Z
Should there be students who can do MORE than that minimum...absolutely. But all should be taught to make sure they reach the minimum.
Furthermore cutting bait on the nogs are just going to make MEGA NOGS in the future, and there will be even more of them.
Congrats on turning a handful of murderers and dozens of thieves into dozens of murders and hundreds of thieves.

Connor Turner
It is bad. A real teacher would just tell you how it works. Not just hand you a worksheet and let you fill in boxes.
Isaiah Gutierrez
If you are concerned about the content you are an idiot.
Outside of #4 (and debatably #6), all of those sentences are true. Furthermore YOU ARE NOT TEACHING THE CONTENT- you are teaching the skill.
In math class are you gonna get into an arguement with your teacher when your name is Jack and you hate a girl name Jill, and the word problem reads "Jack gives 2 of his 3 apples to Jill. How many does Jack have left?"
Are you seriously gonna stand up in class and shout. I WOULD NEVER GIVE THAT BITCH JILL ANY OF MY APPLES AND YOU CANT FUCKING MAKE ME YOU GODDAMN CUNT TEACHER!
On tests like the SATs they use questions/problems that are in no way real, but do you think they are trying to teach you the content? No they are testing you on the skill.
Gavin Sanchez
I can see that you have never actually done common core math before have you?
