Canada easily punches above its weight in regards to intellectuals. We have the highest post-secondary graduation rate in the world, our post-secondary system really doesn't get enough credit given how horribly it could have went due to our population density.
Don't have the absolute best schools, the absolute best students, and all that, but we do pretty well for ourselves. Some decent scientific achievements under our belt. I like that we built the arm on the space station.

This is completely true, we're pretty senseless with education spending in this country really because there is nothing keeping people in Canada. People keep pushing for more socialization of education but it makes no sense when people get an education and hop to the US.
We also have more grads than we need, you look at unfilled job openings and they're all for low skilled position. We're training people for more high skilled jobs than we actually have. I feel like the government policies we have towards universities are escapism in a way.
Nonetheless our education system isn't as terrible as people make it out to be.
