The Democrats are in tatters and there is 0 percent chance that they make any headway in 2018, due to their having two-thirds of the senators up for reelection and several of them in Trump-red states.

a) has some baggage from being one of the few Democrats who's openly expressed a desire to work alongside Trump and has spoken with him in private at the White House
b) Wants Assad to stay in power and rejects the "moderate rebels" narrative.

They simply REALLY didn't want Hillary. While the 2018 senate map appears to be murder for the Democrats, let's keep in mind that the Democrats picked up senate seats in 2006 that were in red states. Let's remember in early 2009 how everyone thought the GOP was out of power for a generation. The Dems are likely to remain in the minority after the midterms, but you never know. The 2018 governor races are going to be very interesting though. It's a great opportunity for the Dems to test their message and rebuild for 2020. Of course they're incompetent as fuck so they'll blow it.
