America, before political parties, was Fascist. It's not a specific ideology.
The fasces of ancient Rome consisted of a bundle of rods and an ax strapped together. The Italian leader Benito Mussolini compared his followers to the rods of the fasces. Each rod by itself may be weak, but when many rods are bound together they are strong.
The rods are the people and the leather binding is the ideology.

Fascism is essentially the belief that the strong should rule the weak. It's directly opposite to communism economical as communism preaches the removal of the bourgeoisie while fascism preaches to remove the proletariat. Both these ideologies go against capitalism with fascism promoting a sort of corporatism (or "Utopian corporatism") as an end goal. Fascism essentially has little to no economic regulations what so ever in order to promote this survival of the fittest economic mentality. It was basically the ideology of the old timey Robber barons as they promoted social Darwinism.

Fascism derives from the latin word fasces which was a bundle of sticks in rome. As in to say "a singular stick may break, but a bundle is much stronger. We are stronger together". The sticks represents the social classes.
Fascism desires strict economic and social regimentation for maximizing efficiency(strong rule the weak), and centralized authoritarian government to organize the nation as if it were a corporation that needs to grow.
Fascism the merger authoritarianism and nationalism because it's central belief is that citizens serve the nation, rather the opposite.
