So I've looked at this Flynn situation and concluded he absolutely had to go. The problem isn't just that he lied, but that his actions showed he doesn't have faith in Trump and his administration, and that he was extremely susceptible to outside/media pressure.
I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that he originally lied because he believed his talks would cause a big story in the media and he wanted to avoid this and protect the administration. Note his lie happens before media pressure even starts to be applied, because he is trying to react ahead of time.
However, what this shows is that Flynn is taking the media threat to seriously, and did not have faith that Trump would simply conduct a basic investigation and tell everyone to fuck off.
He tied his own noose and hung himself, which is unfortunate, but we don't have time for those who are still stuck in the past and can't keep up with this administration.
Good intentions, but completely out of touch with Trump and the team he is trying to put together. Not only could Trump no longer trust him, but Flynn never trusted Trump enough in the first place.
