Communism is the next stage of humanity following the capitalist stage.
What exactly is communism according to Marxist-Leninists:

Individualism leads to either collectivism or communitarianism. They play off the weaknesses and strengths of one another and their more moderate counterparts, becoming progressively more divided. The dialectic we're witnessing is the rise of both groups struggling to form it's own nation by overwhelming the other through soft power, then hard power.

Wouldn't that end up leading to anarchism without any way for a Government to have legitimate power to incentivize behavior? Would you not also be left with a country unable to trade properly with other nations? I agree completely, local trade in goods would be a bit of a cancer on a communist society that could eventually corrupt the system since people would acquire wealth regardless of what limits are imposed on their freedom to trade.

Those robots would put people out of work and jobs however, remember that. A state, whatever ideology it follows, must avoid automating it's entire production and industry power. Otherwise it gets lots of people living off social welfare and government benefits, which would obviously put a strain on the economy.

I think the line of logic is supposed to be that if there is enough automation, absolutely nothing needs to be done by the human populace and they can live in peace and harmony and perfect contentment (DEFINITELY NOT MONOTONY) Obviously there's always gonna be someone wanting to improve their lot so it ultimately fails there but it is a grand idea to live on the wall-e ship for free.
