Anyway, the axis are realigning again. It used to be north vs. south, now it is coasts vs. inland and rural vs. urban.
And by proxy it is white rural conservative and white suburban working class vs. urban liberal diverse.
There is also the local characteristics of each state, that's why I believe demographics will play second fiddle in states like Texas and Colorado (leaning red save for exigent circumstances, like a deeply unpopular candidate among urbanites like Trump) or NC and VA (where local politics is a lot more relevant than national politics).
I agree with the dissenting american in one thing: there won't be another year with a turnout so uncharacteristic as these past three national elections. 2008 and 2012 had a massive black turnout that won't repeat itself and 2016 had a massive hispanic turnout that got its fighting spirit crushed under the defeat to the most hispanic adverse candidate ever fielded.
I don't believe either will show those high turnouts in the near future, meaning the end of Obama's "rainbow coalition". If I were democrats I would be running back to the white working class (unions, law enforcements, etc) with a sorry face, tail between the legs begging for forgiveness.
