Connecticut has been a state controlled by and for the merchant class since the 1820's when it tried to secede to protect financial interests. The state is dependent on (((insurance))) in Hartford, which is otherwise one of the shittiest states in the country.
Our governor is a mafia-connected piece of shit who is rumored to have risen to power purely to shut down a fucking diner. Article related.
My family were farmers, for 300 years. Today, that farm is gone and the land turned into wasteful suburbia. Alcoholism and depression run rampant. A significant number of my family are on drugs, teenage parents, ect.
We are a minority in our own state, outvoted 100 to one by the spics, Jersey-shore-wannabe Italian trash, blacks, New York (((financial executives))), and the entirety of the cultural black hole known as Fairfield County. Don't believe me? The state is a mere 71% white (down from 98% in 1940). Only 12% of the state is English/American in ethnicity, and that number includes a fair amount of Indians.
There is nothing left here. My ancestors fought and died for nothing. This state is rapidly losing its remaining industry and has become yet another mid-atlantic shithole with no culture or identity. At least the rural areas voted Trump...fifty years too late.

Ok, you have a point about the identity aspect. This state has basically become a suburban washout, aside from some areas in the South East near Stonington and whatnot, and in Litchfield County. If you aren't LARPing and your family has actually lived here for 300 yrs, that would be awful. Can't really relate considering I moved here pretty recently relative to you,(right around 2002). Herion affects a bunch of states, not a Connecticut problem specifically. We dont have quie the highest, but they are up there. The only reason for that is because the legislature has been controlled only by Dems for the past 30 yrs. That will change in 2018, and the republicans will cut into teacher pensions and other state employee contracts to finally be able to lower taxes. Those contracts have been untouched for 30 years, that's why taxes are so goddamn high. (and trust me, these taxes are nothing compared to New York). Industrially, the whole country is down the toilet pretty much anyways. Connecticut has no reason to remain an industrial economy.
