Its good for the body, its fun, its veeeery GOOD FOR SOCIAL ANXIETY due to more sparring than other martial arts. pretty good for self defense IN PROPER CIRUMSTANCES...and people are far more chill than in other martial arts.
you can even spar with grills and grab em by the kimono (but it wont feel sexual, youll only do your best not to get submitted by tham)
convince me why I should do BJJ over boxing/Muay Thai
Aaron Peterson
Striking is much more fun. I can't deal with the lessons because I panic and can't remember a simple set of moves, but I found a place that will just let me spar and I've been learning a lot and having tons of fun.
Jonathan Green
>why I should do BJJ over boxing/Muay Thai
extremly steep learing curve you can control the damage submit somone without doing damage if you are in a position to to thet far more fun more chances to spar since you dont need to worry about knockouts better people in general in BJJ
>Striking is much more fun.
Idk man, learnign striking is very repetative. with BJJ you can instantly put stuff into practice, proper striking takes plenty of time to learn.
Ethan Robinson
just buy a gun if you live in a non cuck country
Parker Nguyen
possession and training with a weapon should be supplemented with some form of training in a martial art. It's good for the body and soul. And even in non cucked countries like the US there are places and times where carrying a weapon is either inappropriate or outright illegal.
Carson Morales
I personally prefer Taekwondo and boxing.
Hunter Ross
>Only practice on bags b/c you're too beta to ever compete >Get into life or death situation >Overwhelmed with anxiety >Fuckin die like the dog you are
A BJJ base is better than any striking base.
Wyatt Ramirez
Tendon tear bone breaks from over zealous sparring partner. Pulling my shit out of a alignment. Great thing to learn now I can grapple on the cement swag.
Jaxson Torres
Can't afford to at the moment.
Planning on learning BJJ and freestyle wrestling when I get a job.
Noah Bennett
>A BJJ base is better than any striking base.
THISx100
having someone stronger trying to strangle you or brake your arms in one training sessions does wonders with fear. BJJ is not a be all end all but in fear dimension its the best.
>Can't afford to at the moment.
Ive heard in US monthly membership is close to 100$, here its 50$ at max, sometimes even 15$.
Henry Nelson
Every boxer I've seen in a real fight seems to do pretty well tho, and they usually end it pretty quick. Do you actually have anything to back this up?
Colton Green
Depends on the area, and I have other expenses I have to worry about (wife in med school, child).
Samuel Roberts
You want scientific evidence that being in the pocket opens you up to getting punched?
Are you retarded?
Jack Williams
>Every boxer I've seen in a real fight seems to do pretty well tho, and they usually end it pretty quick.
can confirm. However many boxing gyms are full of idiots so choose wisely, learn both, but have at least basic BJJ knowledge unlike boxing, its extremly fun to learn.
Justin King
you shouldn't. ground grappling irl situation is fucking stupid. if you want to learn grappling that's applicable to fucking ppl up in the streets then just go with judo or freestyle wrestling
Jackson Cox
That's about what I was going to do anyway, I was just curious to see what people had to say over BJJ vs the big striking arts.
Chase Wilson
then why is BJJ so popular with law enforcement, many of whom use BJJ to protect themselves and subdue criminals?
I've heard the whole BJJ is impractical thing before, but I'm curious as to why specifically that is.
Parker Clark
>if you want to learn grappling that's applicable to fucking ppl up in the streets
if that is someone motivation, I should advise kys option. you learn basic grapling for fun and fitness and to defuse a sitution when you can without doing damage.
>then why is BJJ so popular with law enforcement, many of whom use BJJ to protect themselves and subdue criminals?
look above. It can defuse a situation without doing damage so its not a nigger descipline bu affcourse has its limits. BJJ is like a sniper, brilliant in many cases but not in close combat due to dimensions and longer reload.
Noah Jackson
Because I'm 34 and unathletic and don't want to embarrass myself
Kevin Lewis
>Because I'm 34 and unathletic and don't want to embarrass myself
Ive advise BJJ just because of that, learning boxing at 34 has a stronger toll on the body, while BJJ has the least of all martial arts. try it!
Parker Anderson
you also get to have dudes rub their balls all over you without awkwardly bumping feet in public restrooms.
Daniel Hughes
He's right I've seen the tape on this. Pull it up again Jamie.
Lincoln Murphy
You own a shop selling gi's or something don't you?
Brody Morris
>you also get to have dudes rub their balls
celavie nigga. you can also roll with girls.
man Ive just discovered BJJ
Samuel Richardson
>grappling >good >effective >useful
Learn a real martial art or become a pornstar...
Leo Roberts
How is Judo compared to BJJ? I really want to throw people more than force them into assfucking positions.
Jonathan White
Been doing Krav Maga for 12 years. Wanting to branch out into BJJ because KM doesn't touch on grappling too much, and it looks fun as shit.
Jaxson Martin
krav maga is shit-tier. Might as well imitate anime faggit.
>you can even spar with grills and grab em by the kimono (but it wont feel sexual, youll only do your best not to get submitted by tham)
kek
Dylan Ross
I like bjj and judo
Jonathan Wilson
90% of fights wind up on the ground? body to body and joint lock techniques have less chance of being countered, grabbed, or hurting yourself? no one knows how to wrestle, and you can defeat much larger opponents?
I was a bouncer in a rough bar for a long time and wound up getting into tons of brawls, 38 to be exact. nearly every single one wound up going to the ground; after someone gets hit in the face a few times they usually rush you and try to tackle you.
Ryan Davis
I am its addictive. I did muay thai aswell but bjj is far more patrician
Carter Taylor
What belt, and what academy do you train at OP. Pedro sauer blue beltch here, been training arounf 3 years.
Im sore as fuck right now and regretting damaging my body with this meme sport.
Jaxson Clark
NO BS OR MEMES READ THIS:
This is underrated, our bodies can get taxed from combat, get to know your body and choose & train wisely. Im Blue belt in bjj and trained in kickboxing & mma for 3 years. If u get a meh sport bjj school id take striking over it but if its a legit place where your bjj instructor is actively involved in training law enforcement then go that route. ALSO if the monthly pay is expensive, then speak with the owner to see if theyll give u a discount for cleaning the place or even helping with the kids classes. My brother got jumped, thankfully hes ok, that made him realize he'd rather know something than nothing. He started training a week ago.
Joseph Hill
>self defence bjj over sport bjj
get out, rener
Hunter Clark
It is useless in real life street fight.
Levi Rivera
Damn good bjj. Whats he like as a coach?
Jordan Russell
>What belt, and what academy do you train at OP. Pedro sauer blue beltch here, been training arounf 3 years.
recently started training bro, so im light skin beltch white masterrace. Im hooked.
>It is useless in real life street fight.
not entirely true.
Isaac Jones
Lol, well kekked my friend. Everyone has different goals.
Jack Rogers
I started a 42, if you have a good instructor they will know how to work with you and you will get in shape and feel better.
Josiah Cooper
>But I don't want to do BlowJobJudo, Dad.
Logan Moore
the reasons are 1. BJJ is well marketed by the gracie barra corporation 2. because arresting someone who is resisting usually requires rolling around on the ground with them 3. because police travel in packs, and restraining someone dog piling on him in mass numbers isn't exactly a triumph of bjj
cops use judo more than bjj anyway
Jacob Phillips
If you're going to "work out" to "look better" that's just masturbation.
Great, you look good but can you defend yourself?
Any argument of the benefits of a particular exercise regimen falls apart when it comes down to survival in this world. Does what you do for "fitness" provide a benefit above just "looking good"?
William Hughes
pretty boy got fucked up
David Mitchell
Lol How about the total opposite. Trying to remember the intricacies of a complex ground based move versus focusing on just punching someone in the face with atleast a somewhat perfected strike is superior in terms of what you will easily resort to when scared.
Zachary Gray
Muay thai is a meme Boxing and wrestling are the most redpilled and effective martial arts
Thomas Walker
>Trying to remember the intricacies of a complex ground
its like riding a bike or swiming, its instinctual, there is nothing to forget.
Brody Baker
>amateur single leg attempt >somehow representative of bjj
he looks like a guy who watches UFC and thinks he can fight
I train at one of the associated schools so I havent had many chances to train with pedro himself. Brilliant guy though.
Andrew Thompson
Every move that attempts bringing down the enemy into the floor exposes you to death blows that are illegal in the ring and that are common on the street. Add knives, baseball bats and other weapons and you realize that attempts at using bjj in the street is suicidal.
As for training it and its indirect usefulness punching a bag and running are much better. Fights rarely last more than a minute in street, and running away is almost always the best option.
Lincoln Thomas
Go to croatia and 1v1 him if youre so confident in your deathblows, faggit.
Dominic Harris
people in bjj clubs don't practice with strikes, they don't know how to deal with them. Anyone who is a seasoned grappler knows once you take a shot and get dazed all your techniques fly out the window, and anyone who denies it is full of shit and has never actually fought. that's pretty much as good as most bjj guys are. You know very well takedowns are rarely if ever practiced. a 6 month judo white belt has an equivalent take down game to a brown belt in bjj
Nathan Wright
and krav maga and muah thai somehow makes you 100% bulletproof in a brawl?
you missed my point, BJJ has plenty of applications outside of a group street fight and yes striking and running is advisable far more than grapling but people who train knife defense and similar bs are conditioniong themselves for catastrophy since their chances of surviving knife attact comes from 80% to 75% xet their confidence is out of the roof.
>people in bjj clubs don't practice with strikes, they don't know how to deal with them
correct, but if I had a chance of recommending any martial art to an absolute noob he will only had 6 months training it would definitly by BJJ. To be a good striker takes years.
Adrian Wood
Bjj destroys your joints. I don't like rolling around with dudes sweating on me I don't want my ears looking tumors Bjj gets wrecked in fights Gyms are expensive as fuck People that do bjj are like vegans
Grayson Gomez
That is 100% bullshit and if you have trained to any extent you would know it. Who are you to be talking such nonsense about bjj? Did you get cucked by a bjj guy or something? Or just a judo practicioner that thinks theres some kind of war between the two arts... nobody is knocking judo.
Caleb Brooks
/aspol/?
I've trained on and off for a long time. The key is to find a competitive style (anything you can do full contact) and get really good at it.
We can circle jerk about a BJJ black belt champion vs a lunpinee stadium must Thai champ, but for self defense, anybody who's really good at something is gonna be set 1v1.
Karate, tkd, sanshou, judo, boxing, muay Thai, Western kickboxing, BJJ, wrestling, MMA. Get competitive level or spar a lot in these styles. Get in good shape (5+ miles, lifting, flexibility). You'll be set.
Charles Baker
Boxing lets you constantly disrupt your opponent how can he have time to pull out a knife or a gun if the guy he's fight is constantly getting into his face throwing combos at him, where as someone trying to shoot for a takedown doesn't really stop pulling a knife from his pocket and jam it right into your neck
David Foster
What martial art do you train?
Jaxon Brown
>a 6 month judo white belt has an equivalent take down game to a brown belt in bjj
almost all BJJ vs Judo fights are won by BJJ guys.
>People that do bjj are like vegans
kek, yes, But BJJ works - its an extremly usefull tool to have. Vegans >>> bydlo criminal muah thai scum.
Isaiah Sullivan
My local BJJ gym is 150$ a month. There's an MMA gym that's 130$. Not to mention the BJJ gym forces you to buy their gi which is like 500$! Not a cheap hobby at least in my area. I would love to learn it but it's just too expensive especially on top of my regular gym membership which is 40$ a month. I'd be spending almost $200 a month on fitness/training and that's hard to justify right now. So I just workout obsessively and hope that my strength and cardio will give me enough of an advantage over your average joe to survive a self defense situation. I'm also waiting on my concealed carry license to come in the mail, should be here any day. I train with firearms every weekend and workout 6 days a week with heavy lifting and long runs so hopefully that combination will be enough for me to handle myself.
Samuel Cruz
Do not preach this bullshit as a viable self defense martial art for street fighting. It is good if you are a faggot and want to cuddle with another men in the floor. It gets you killed in the street.
Lucas Barnes
That's not true. I used to train under a pretty good blackbelt (very good competition and MMA record). When there were lots of competitions coming up, we would focus on sport BJJ. But if there weren't, he would rotate in 3 week blocks of self defense stuff (standing up, defending GnP, sweeping during GnP). I think it helped my sport game a lot
Nathan Rivera
lol, ok queer. You krab rangoon faggots always make it sound like your eye pokes and nut grabs invalidate every other fighting style. We can do the same thing, but we have a legit fighting system to back that up.
Nathaniel Morris
You should do one of those alongside bjj
Colton Bailey
>Boxing lets you constantly disrupt your opponent how can he have time to pull out a knife or a gun if the guy he's fight is constantly getting into his face throwing combos at him
maybe but you are an extreme underdog even as a skilled boxer (or krav magist) if someone has a knife, but have at least 6 months BJJ its is highly usefull easpecialy with boxing. Peacefully submiting a weaker opponent is a nobel skill.
>My local BJJ gym is 150$ a month. There's an MMA gym that's 130$. Not to mention the BJJ gym forces you to buy their gi which is like 500$!
bloody bizzare prices you heve. I bought a used gi fro 50$ and we have gi and no gi. Membershit is 30$ + for 4 training a week (2 training and 2 open mat).
>Do not preach this bullshit as a viable self defense martial art for street fighting.
BS! I won plenty of monthly STREET FIGHT championship in my area, far more than you. Fight me 1on1 IRL. My goal is to become the GREATEST STREET FIGHT IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!
Can some expert recommend a martial art for me? I am 1.95 meter tall have a weight of 90kg and tend to use my weight and size in fights. I can take pain from hits pretty well (doesn't mean I can't get knocked out) but I completely suck at doing things liek high kicks. Is BJJ a good martial art for me or are orthers better?
Wyatt Price
>Is BJJ a good martial art for me or are orthers better?
YES!!!! do 6 months of it and youll have a useful skillset after than do boxing and 80% of basics is covered. After that do whatever you want...but dont takte krav maga too seriously.
t. not an expert but I know the risks of being around bydlos in martial art gyms and BJJ people are usually very good people.
Brandon King
This should be a reminder to everyone to train their take downs (or their wrestling or judo, even sambo) that shit looked so telegraphed. The black dude could have just lifted his knee and let him Ko himself. First timers looking into training: stay hydrated, clip your nails, make sure you do not stink (bad) out of respect that means clothes and your dental hygiene, don't stress out just keep showing up to class and have Fun! - I Train in a Gracie Barra in Texas. If u get into a gb school don't bother with their official gis they're overpriced and seem slightly longer. Maybe it's the batch my gym got but man GB storm kimonos blows (2016 batch)
Jose James
I wish I could actually reply to people but its saying all my posts are spam
Gabriel Phillips
BJJ is nice for submission but the problem I find with BJJers is that many of them have weak takedowns I find that BJJ can be either very effective or completely useless its not really reliable compared to boxing and wrestling
David Sullivan
>stop masturbating >spend time hugging men on the floor instead
OP is always a fag, KYS
Leo Kelly
>This should be a reminder to everyone to train their take downs (or their wrestling or judo, even sambo) that shit looked so telegraphed.
are you saying BJJ is not good for street fighting?
>I find that BJJ can be either very effective or completely useless its not really reliable compared to boxing and wrestling
duh! its a specific skillset, YOU SHOULD HAVE. going BJJ specific in a streetfight is like putting a sniper with a SWAT team that is rushing the room.
>OP is always a fag, KYS
BS! I havent had a boner once on training. BJJ is a good homo detector.
Cameron Martin
Can you elaborate on this? There is a MT gym near me, not much other MMA stuff around, is it really a terrible thing to start out with?
Xavier Flores
well whats the point in learning something situation when you can spend time min maxing on something thats effective in most situation
Isaac Peterson
Jesus Christ 500$???!? You can also buy gi's online like eBay and whatnot. I bought a official gi on ebay (old batch) for 90$ fits me beautifully. If anyone here trains at Gracie Barra, I hear the Brazilian official gis are legit, or just get a blank gi patched
Christopher Murphy
I started grappling (BJJ) a little over 2 years ago and it's one of the best things I ever started doing
By true confidence I don't mean I got cocky. I mean that I legitimately know if I needed too, I could kill or really injure an attacker if they fucked up and got too close without a weapon.
Nathaniel Cruz
Ive been training 3 years and im not 100% confident that I could beat an attacker. Its probably just my natural lack of confidence though, because i manhandle any new person that comes to the gym.
Hudson Smith
>and running
fag
Carson Ramirez
>Can you elaborate on this? here is a MT gym near me, not much other MMA stuff around, is it really a terrible thing to start out with?
Idk but boxing and muah thai is usually favoured by subhumans and petty criminals, however MMA guys and gym people are usually chill af (together with BJJ crew). Krav maga is also filled with autistic psychos in tact gear.
Its a long story on explainin why but word that comes to mind is that its not HUMBLING, but go BJJ or MMA since people there are far more intelligent and normal (BJJ is more secure option people wise doe). Ive learned from experince on this one.
>well whats the point in learning something situation when you can spend time min maxing on something thats effective in most situation
Dude, I dont fight on the streets, that is for subhumans. Boxing and simiar sstriking sports can have a pretty negative effect on humans. Most boxers and strikers I know are the lowest common denominators. That doesnt change the fact that boxing is a usefull skill to have and THAT IS WAS called The nobel sport.
>Humbling
this guy gets it. That is what makes BJJ and grapling so superior.
Matthew Scott
Doing judo for about 14 years now get at me 6'0 245 Id fucking kill anyone in this thred
Brody Bennett
now just wait until someone punches you!
since I can't reply to any of the other people I was trying to talk to I'll say it to you. Anyone who is confident in their wrasslin to with the day without question has never actually been punched
Elijah Allen
My gi cost 80 dollars on amazon. If you pay 500 bucks for a gi your braindead
Jackson Garcia
A buddy of mine who is very Volkisch does BJJ. He won another match on Friday.
Alexander Collins
This judo place btw, is a local pal thing that the teacher volunteers to do, for kids its 60 a season, I learn for free now as i count as an assistant coach
Elijah Russell
Sure, getting knocked out is a reality in any fight you get into on the street. But I think that I could take just as much punishment as an average joe and then have my technique on top of it. Of course, some biker who has been in 100 bar fights would probably beat me up due to my lack of experience getting hit.
Still, having grappling skills against a brawler without grappling skills instantly makes the fight go in your favor.
Jackson Miller
I did muay thai, boxing for a long time and tried BJJ for some weeks. Stopped BJJ as I quickly
Muay thai/kickboxing + easy to learn, hard to master + one of the best, if not the best stand up fighting style + will make you ripped very fast +very good for stamina
-attracts shitheads (seriously, fuckloads of the shittiest people you'll ever meet). Didn't help I trained at an immigrant dominated gymn in the most "enriched" part of the city >tfw knee'd in the plexus by the coach and getting lowkicked repeatedly
boxing -hard to master -most fun fighting sport imo -hardest/best sport for stamina -attracts less shitheads -very good for self-defense
BJJ -excellent to make other trained stand up fighters now want to fight you -excellent if you truly hate someone and want to destroy them in a 1v1 -attracts the friendliest people of all (probably because of the extreme phsysical contact, it was the closest to a large group of friends I have ever seen in a sporting club. Everyone greeted each other and shook hands when entering clothing room etc. -prone to (serious) injury -hard to master
Colton James
Never had a punch parried and found yourself flying through the air when they throw you huh?
Jacob Lee
This is true. 95% of people have no idea what to do on the ground. Even someone with a rudimentary understanding of BJJ will smoke anyone who doesn't know how to fight
James Diaz
I rolled with a judo blackbelt who had been training and competing for 20 years, and shit on him on the ground. You guys really dont learn shit on the ground.
