President Trump intends to cut the Coast Guard's funding by over a billion dollars, cancelling the construction of a new cutter and potentially dismantling the Coast Guard's counter-terrorism assets
As the man who ran as the counter-terrorist candidate we need to stop him from doing this.
I'm not anti-Trump by any stretch of the word, this is the first thing he's done that I disagree with.
also, this site has a long delay with adding signatures, so don't pay attention to the signature number.
Jaxon Fisher
You guys really don't need a new cutter and driving around in your little rhibs is stupid. How many terrorists u catch like that? They don't even mount guns where i am at.
The cg serves a needed purpose. But half of that is setting up signage and signals, and most of the rest is search and rescue.
Ports could easily shift anti terrorism to private guards. And how many cutters do we really need for interdiction? You guys use balloons anyway.
Asher Baker
I'm glad. Coasties are useless outside of patrolling borders. Even Trump knows that. Because of you we have fags like Chris Costa. You need sea interdiction? Call the real feds or homeland security. No need to have full time staffed coasties playing COD.
Hudson Brooks
Bump for the last line of defence. Who else will keep out Mexicans after the wall is built?
John Moore
Im sure the ice. And bp agents will have a fucking blast in new 4 wheelers patrolling padre island. With a command center monitoring a blimp tracking vessels.
Chase Garcia
>>Coast Guard
Levi Cox
I don't know why you support Trump when he has so much contempt for the troops. In fact, maybe I'm starting to understand that contempt. You are treated badly and ask for more.
Landon Morales
I'm not a Coast Guardsmen. Someday tho
Chase Gonzalez
Because we're not liberal shitheads like you Share Blue
Brody Bennett
No, do cut the funding. As someone with very close ties to every day Coast Guard activities...there is A LOT of waste.
David Rogers
The Coast Guard IS Homeland Security
Julian Martin
Why is the Coast Guard it's own branch instead of being part of the Navy?
Noah Wilson
>Homeland security CG IS under Homeland Security
James Mitchell
Different missions
Jordan Evans
>a whole branch of the military is needed to fight off jellyfish invasions
Jaxon Butler
>Coast Guard's counter-terrorism assets
Why would chucklefucks in the discount navy have CS force? Leave it to the Navy.
Dominic Martin
Its not a branch. It is homeland security like ice and border patrol.
The most important thing the cg does is set up buoys and other markers to mark channels. But they dont even dig the channels the amy coe does that.
But they spend a massive ammount of money driving around in these 30 foot rhibs with machine gun mounts doing absolutely nothing.
Austin Evans
Yes, leave it to the branch that doesn't even allow recruits march is snow or rain
> >The Coast Guard IS Homeland Security I meant the parts of Homeland Security that matter and are actual law enforcement agents with strenous training. Border Patrol has a water unit, no reason why they can't take over. They also have tac teams.
Sorry faggot, you probably wanted to join a tac team so you could play Johnny Commando without having to deploy overseas. Too bad, now you'll have to enlist in an actual service if you want to play Billy Badass.
Charles Perez
>stenuous training
the Coast Guard is second only to the Marines. IN fact they're permitted to train on Marine bases.
John Rogers
I signed. Don't listen to these fags, they probably live in fly over states and don't know anything about the ocean. Coast Guard is important
Justin Gutierrez
Lmao
So you're a hardened coastie then? Or just some poolee faggot talking about shit he knows nothing about?
Connor Harris
OP not even in coast guard. stop feeding trolls.
Adrian Mitchell
It is its own branch - used to be part of the navy like USMC. Has been under several different departments before DHS.
Ryder Young
Someone who has relatives in the Coast Guard and who has researched it through vet sources
Logan Nelson
Lol. I'm not in the Coast Guard you fucking retard. Sounds like you might have a case of projection though. Too bad you the recruiters wouldn't take you. Coast Guard are LE trained, they have maritime security operations, can operate overseas, and do drug interdiction and detain criminals/illegal immigrants. With all that being said I'm arguing that their funding SHOULD be cut. I know personally how wasteful they are.
Gabriel Thompson
Coastguard doesn't actually do that much. I can't think of anything they currently do other than conducting ocean rescue missions and assisting law enforcement in stopping boats bringing in drugs.
Jace Hughes
They march in snow and rain at RTC dipshit.
Brody Sullivan
Important sure, wasteful definitely. I live in a Coast Guard city ON the coast.
Brody Nguyen
Chair Force fag reporting in, the Coast Guard is way way way over funded.
James Sullivan
> >Someone who has relatives in the Coast Guard and who has researched it through vet sources Vet sources? Congrats you went on federal soup before, doesn't mean shit. My tours in Iraq say otherwise
Lucas Cooper
Guess my brother who went to Navy boot camp lied even though he had nothing to gain
Alexander Myers
They say just as much as my tours in the meme wars, big guy.
Camden Cook
They secure for severe thunderstorms and fucking blizzards
Chase Gutierrez
He's de-funding the measures to protect and keep the great lakes clean as well you know. Basically what he's going to do is undo everything that people have fought tooth and nail to accomplish in order to prevent corporations from destroying this world.
Congratulations pol you got /your guy/
Gabriel Flores
They don't go in force, they go in small numbers for specific occasions.
There was only one Coast Guard casualty in the Iraq War
Mason Diaz
Tjey CAN operate overseas. Back 10 years agoa they protected iraqi oil terminals. That was the last time they were considerd an armed forces branch.
The IRS has armed trained law enforenment officers too. And can operate overseas. Are they armed forces?
Blake Smith
>>boots lying about basic That has never happened before, how dare you
Levi Long
I didn't agree with Trump on the pipeline but to go against his plans would be un American. I suggest you do the same. Join another branch of public work or return to the private sector.
Jackson White
Are you asking if they're a branch of the military or if they're ARMED FORCES. I think you can answer your own question.
Thomas Butler
They ARE part of the Armed Forces you fucking idot Jesus Christ
Ian Walker
I feel if any of our military branches should have more than enough funding.. its the ones who operate on our soil. While you guys ar eout drinking beer int he deserts/jungles/on boats they're actually defending the country 8]
Jayden Williams
CG can and does operate internationally too.
Joshua Thompson
Because they don't do shit. Believe me, there was a lot of war there, one guy killed is an embarrassment statistically speaking.
These faggots were all over Al Assad airbase, that place was a resort for fobbits. We stayed there before we left country, but holy fuck, these people actually think they're deployed when in reality they're LARP in a huge MWR in a sandbox.
Blake Torres
again, this is rare. It does happen though, and generally they at least send an Officer to major conflicts
Zachary White
Statistically, less than 1% of all deployed soldiers die.
You faggots just go in larger numbers, thus end up with more dead.
Henry Carter
The Coast Guard is shit. I'm glad they're losing some funding. I would not recommend anyone here joining unless they're really certain they want to make a career out of it. Not worth your time. I will say this, they have it easy. You are pampered like fucking celebrities on those cutters. It's the good life.
Lucas Long
>you are pampered According to a Marine friend, so are the Navy.
#DefundtheNavy
John Jenkins
Sure the Seals are pampered?
Christian Cooper
Coast Guard wastes money like no other. Stop defending them just because you want to be a coastie. You can at least stop denying reality for a second and look past your desire to join. The CG doesn't need all the money they get.
Samuel Smith
The coast guard is nothing more than a poor man's Peace Corps.
It exists to beef up resumes solely. The war on drugs is a shitty argument for their existence btw.
Asher Scott
Give me physical proof their money goes to waste and maybe I will
Carter Butler
That's Postal Dude not Doomguy you retard
Angel Davis
sorry, had doomguy in my head
Cameron Morales
An average day on a cutter. >t. someone who is on a cutter on a semi-daily basis
Jeremiah Hall
You could just be full of shit.
If you can't show me a budget that shows overspending, I have no reason as someone who doesn't know you to believe you.
Joseph Ward
Actually the seals sort of are pampered. And the navy in general. But quite literally the only people that work are the people replacing markers. And the search and rescue heli guys.
And the other guy thata said its not worth it. Even as enlisted your gonna get out with an ab card atleast. You can now work on any icw tug or great lakes ship. American flagged ships HAVE to hire ameican seamen.
Tyler Morgan
Fine, believe what you will. I don't just have free reign over financial supports, and even if I did would you expect me to put them up here?? Have fun in the CG bud. If you plan on staying in for the long haul and you're not in a relationship I'd suggest getting on a med endurance cutter or higher, especially if traveling is your thing.
Juan Campbell
Which branch would be the best to join in the next 2-4 years?
Joshua Scott
no, fuck off. use that money to build a hospital or repair roads or something
Blake Gutierrez
>repair roads
but that violates the NAP
Charles Butler
Chair Force. But seriously, depends on what you want to do while you're in and after you're out.
Christian Taylor
I hear Chair Force and Army are the best career-wise
Gavin Nelson
whops clicked wrong id
I meant
Angel Lee
JHC . Don't some fucking research you dumb faggots. They do tons of shit you never see or hear about.
I was thinking maybe trying to become an Army ranger or something of that sort and then using to experience to do some sort of private security or something
Josiah Morales
Aviation. Don't listen to this guy. AVIATION!!!
Asher Scott
For some clarification guys, I mainly want to use the Coast Guard as a starting position. I like it's concept so I want to start there. If the means present themselves I want to move into other sectors of military and law enforcement afterwards. I don't really like anything available in the civilian world desu.
Nolan Powell
I used to think that HITRON unit was cool. But you have to be a 2nd-tour officer to join it I hear. and I'm not that optimistic.
John Anderson
Ranger would be a good option then. Army in general I suppose. I didn't say aviation because I have no idea what the guy is into. but based on I would imagine I was right to say get on a cutter. You can do all the LE training and shit there. Med/High endurance or a national security cutter. Just be prepared to be gone for months on end, so I would suggest not being in a relationship if you do get put on one of those.
William Gomez
get the fuck off the DoD tit and go back to the Department of Transportation where you belong faggot
go back to testing algae
Aiden Fisher
not exactly true 80% of the crew has to be US citizens and canadians can be officers. That said the pumpkinheads do need new ships and to answer few more things about them. 1. They are part of the DOD on loan to the DHS 2. They are regularly deployed to the middle east and regularly conduct boardings of ships there. 3. Their ships are so old a decrepid it will cost more to continue using them than replacing them with more modern fuel efficent and automated ships would.
Kayden Allen
My dream would be to be on a National Security Cutter (The Legend-Class)
I'd be ok with a land base too but I get a feeling those stationed on land don't get to do shit.
Thomas Gomez
No, they don't do shit. Seriously, it blows if you are ACTUALLY wanting to do something meaningful. Lucky for you most people get put on cutters after basic. What you need to do is research where the National Security cutters are largely in port, and during basic you will get to request 3 locations you would like to be stationed (they consider those when assigning you). Write down 3 locations where you would have the best chance of getting placed on one and then you're good.
Adrian Wood
I was thinking going in as a Gunner's Mate. Law Enforcement Specialist or whatever they're called sounds neat and all but they need to shorten the waiting period, I heard from a Coast Guard Boot Camp channel that it can take 2 years to be approved for 'A' School for LES
Isaiah Hughes
then again as a Gunner's Mate all I'd do is tinker
Isaiah Hernandez
Yea that sounds about right. And GM is a good choice as well. Like I said I'm not in the CG, just very closely associated with it, but if i was GM would be something I would consider. It's fun to get to shoot at sharks as a GM during swim calls.
Isaac Gomez
No respect at all...
Nathaniel Thomas
tfw there are only 2 USCG recruiting stations in my state and none of them are in my town
Elijah Howard
He's a Brit-bong he doesn't have a right to speak
Blake Hill
If you're gunna go down spec ops, why not try for SF? It'll be shitty, but you'll do more cool guy stuff in that community. Either way, private security like blackwater n shit like both Ranger batt guys and SF dudes. Plus both contract paths will take you through infantry and airborne schools, which is the best if you don't wanna be a pog.
Zachary Campbell
Just get in contact with them via email or telephone. They will buy you a bus/train ticket to go to wherever their recruiting offices are. Sometimes they'll put you up in a nice hotel overnight too before you leave. Not always the case though so don't count on it.
Nathaniel Evans
one of them is close enough to drive it just sucks that it's necessary when both of my brothers enlisted right here in our hometown
Justin Bailey
They're just the border patrol on boats.
Gavin Perry
>cutter >on land >navy intellectuals
Josiah Taylor
Please tell me you're just trolling.
Samuel Collins
Yes, I thought you were too
Gavin Hall
Oh good. That's why I come to Sup Forums.
Lucas Russell
well I'm exhausted from all this tactical shitposting
I'll see you fags later
Hunter Ortiz
...
Luis Allen
It is a branch. They're considered military during times of war and sometimes deployed alongside naval units. During peacetime, they're considered law enforcement.
Asher Bailey
>glorified life gaurds in charge of anti terrorism
Joseph Carter
Because you can't use the navy for law enforcement and the national guard is boat-less
