Democracy

What's Sup Forums's opinion about democracy? Does it have any value at all? Is it really a socialist invention made to destroy society?

It works most of the time

Its shit. At the very least, it should be one vote per family, only while they have underage children. The wider franchise is extended, the worse it fucks society up and the more it encourages socialism.

May Day is when the commie revolution starts.

On may Day the commies will start shit in our biggest cities ,they are trying to start a communist revolution and you fuckers better be ready

May Day is when it all happens...THEIR SILENCE ABOUT THE DAY IS PROOF OF WHATS COMING ... why can't we all understand this.

It sucks. What pisses me off the most is that it's considered synonymous with freedom. That doesn't even make sense. Democracy guarantees the majority will rule over the minority.

Not only that but it just seems to destroy a society's cohesion. It divides the fuck out of everyone. It encourages leftists to import third worlders so they vote for them. It's annoying how people talk about how democracy is so pure. Whenever their side loses, they always blame it on subversion and how outside forces are "threatening our democracy".

Also notice how democracy always has exceptions, stuff you can't vote on. They don't let people vote on things like immigration, or drugs, or anything that actually matters, so the government can just push its shit through either way and still call itself a democracy

It gives the power to the media and banks by default. It simply cannot work effectively.

to add to your points; even if a hypothetical newly-minted politician obtaining elected office is of good moral character and does wish to only do good on behalf of the nation, a politicians first priority will ALWAYS to be re-elected.

what's someone's priority at a job? to keep that job- usually by performing it adequately or better. unfortunately, the billet of elected/appointed official has no requirement of performing their role adequately or working chiefly for the long-term good of the citizens of this nation

and that hypothetical good+moral individual is going to be highly outnumbered by the less savory types getting into that """field"""

i tend to feel that restricted democracy where the privilege to vote in referendums, initiatives, and elections is based upon a dual measure of capability and service. an individual must be skilled/intelligent, an individual must have provided service to the nation (or at the very least refrained from using gub'mint handouts), or an individual could have done both.

i also tend to believe that we need to establish permanent dwellings and colonies off-world in order to synthesize a new grand experiment of politics and society like the US has been called in the past

>i also tend to believe that we need to establish permanent dwellings and colonies off-world in order to synthesize a new grand experiment of politics and society like the US has been called in the past

that sounds like an awesome sci-fi novel

when the stupid are given equal power and sway as the most intelligent and capable, it leads to destruction of all society

White men with property should vote. And no damn joos

youtube.com/watch?v=hhkRQUtD_Jo

Uh-Huh, $600 billion of the miltiary and you can't stop some degenerate retards who don't know how to hadle a gun less likely a single weapon. The Ground forces will destroy the root of the Revolution and cripple morale so low they wouldn't dare to try it again.

nah, democracy is actually good. But, like any other form of government, it will work in some places and not in others. It all depends on how intelligent the people is, and who can vote and who cannot, and if they already have some history with popular participation in politics.

Take XVII century England. They adopted a democracy of sorts and it went pretty well. Thanks to it, they became far more powerful than the continental powers, ignited the industrial revolution and went on to build the biggest empire the world has ever seen. The British elections in the XIX century were very disputed and only subjects that actually mattered would be discussed. Meanwhile, the continent lost itself in endless power struggle and court gossip.

What killed democracy is the universal suffrage. Poor people is often dumb as rocks and make easy targets to propaganda, populism or cheap ideology. And that is when they don't vote with their stomach.

please read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein, and you'll probably understand my fascination with the prospect

my idle fantasy is to secure a billet on some orbital station, long-voyage vessel, or even terra-based installation studying the psychological ramifications of long-term stasis, cryogenics, etc on personnel.

unfortunately, at 25 and without the intense drive necessary to be a proper spaceman or analogue, maybe i should settle for putting down some words on a page about it and seeing if people enjoy reading them

Good thing America is a republic.

Democracy is dog shit and the dog is a Jew.

of course it is awful, you need only look to see this

If it is a socialist invention created to destroy us its shit. Socialists dont win anymore

They inspire the Next Generation every time

Democracy for those who actually contribute to the growth and development of the nation. If you don't pay taxes and have a negative productivity value (taking more social assistance than what you put back through taxes and work) you don't get to vote.

That's not to say that if you are jobless or don't earn enough, you have no chance of voting. There's always volunteering on your spare time. Spending a few hours a week picking up trash on the highway or landscaping work at public parks can earn you the right to vote.

Also, for votes on single issues, stakeholders who are actually impacted should get count for double the votes. A measure on an increase to property should weigh more on actual homeowners instead of renters of individuals with no fixed address. Same for how school funding should only matter for those who are parents of school-age children. Of course, to avoid exclusion and stagnation of perspective, non-stakeholders can increase the weight of their vote by taking the initiative to self-educate on the actual points and impacts of the vote issue. Passing a simple test on the main points and affected demographics to ensure a moderate understanding restores the full weight of your vote.

The problem with democracy is apathy and non-participation. The fact that a sizeable presence of uninformed voters is allowed to vote is what breaks the system. By only allowing those who are willing to spend time and effort to participate and contribute to a democratic government will it become effective and more in tune with the interests of the people.

It isn't good, but universal suffrage is the real problem.

democracy:
-the people who should be the best and smartest in society, the politicians, have to do not what they think is right, but what most people think is right (average 95-105 IQ vs 120+ IQ)
-if 45% of the voting population votes for one thing, and 55% votes for the other, 45% of the people who voted are irrelevant, no matter what the idea was or how good it was
-votes can be easily manipulated, hillary clinton rigged the election by changing the results of voting machines (and still lost), and helped in importing millions of people who would vote for her
-"true democracy" is irrelevant because from my knowledge, it hasn't been really done since ancient greece, so you can't vote for everything (going to war, immigration, what rights people have, etc.)
-democracy is the same kind of idea as socialism, it doesn't gain power by being a good idea, but rather because a lot of people would want it (low IQ people are now in charge of the country, low IQ people now get high IQ people's money)

and nobody will ever fight to end it because everybody likes it

It only work into a full enlighted society, where being clever is being cool, where people actually try to learn more and more by themselves, it is our aim, our goal, we have to work toward this utopia

Kek'd and checked.

it's cool when it means you're taking into account the point of view of different families with similar heritages and values

it's terrible when it means that whoever the fuck walks across the borders of your country has the right to earn off of the tax payers of that country

>Is it really a socialist invention made to destroy society?
No, it's just stupid to trust everybody, even the unqualified, to make many decisions.

Is there a form of democracy that uses merits as power?
ie: Only those who can write an essay about their chosen candidate may vote for them.

maybe a required IQ test to vote, but rigging elections would still be possible

The average person surely understands the intricacies of governance. Democracy isn't always horrible but it is definitely usually horrible. You have poor decision makers picking representatives. You have the most opportunistic parasites making up a large portion of those running and actually succeeding in getting office. Ideally you'd have a situation where the 'political class', or those who have the opportunity to become public servants, have no financial incentive or other motivation like power or fame. For this to be the case you'd be choosing from the rich exclusively. Look at Baldwin IV of Jerusalem or Scipio Afrincanus to see what happens when a man has whatever he wants. Baldwin spent a couple decades looking for someone else to take the job and Scipio passed on the offer to be dictator and retired from politics upon his triumphant return. There is nobody like that in politics now

merit=value=money
capitalism is a meritocracy

It shall be true, I am kek and I shall will it.

I don't know about how you run things over there but over here the U.S. military won't fire on our own civilians despite what their political leanings may be.

Underrated. Being able to choose between one of two puppets every four years is hardly 'democratic'. The (((FED))) controls the money supply and you can't even audit them, let alone having the right to elect a competent chairman. Don't even get started on wars, spying and the war on drugs. Your say doesn't mean shit unless you've got a few million people protesting with pitchforks.

Lemme give you a quick rundown on why democracy is bullshit.

unqualified-reservations.blogspot.ca/2008/01/how-i-stopped-believing-in-democracy.html

I like it. The preferential voting system we have here is quite nice. Although I'd like to try the Direct Democracy they have in Switzerland. Any Swiss user's can tell me what it's like?
