On March 12, the Lucky Lab staff eighty-sixed a group calling themselves "national socialists"—that is, Nazis—who had been recruiting at the bar. The group refused to leave and peppered staff with anti-gay slurs until police were called.
The print issue of WW that hit the streets this morning tells the staff's story as part of a report on the increase of white supremacist activity in the Portland area, including racist vandalism, anti-Semitic threats and the arrival of an alleged Ku Klux Klan leader across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Wash.
Since at least March 5, someone had been leaving cards at the Lucky Lab location on Northwest Quimby Street. The cards read, "White?" and listed web links for hate site the Daily Stormer, a new group called PDX Stormers, the website Sup Forums, and the Trump campaign.

Oregon here. I think it's odd that many people here would think nazis in Portland is a strange thing. Oregon has a long history of white supremacist groups, and Portland used to have a pretty sizeable skinhead situation. I don't know anything about this particular story and I wouldn't doubt that it's all overblown. But it's not fantastical to suspect that a group saying they're national socialists may have been there to cause a scene more than anything else - as that's a bar right in the middle of a very hipster area. It would be like westboro baptists marching in the castro district.
To be fair a lot of the old skinhead stuff was associated with the punk rock scene (and who knows how many of them were pretending or whatever) but it used to be in the news often here in the 80s to early 90s. I think most of them migrated to eastern oregon or idaho but that's just an opinion.
That's also not to say that it wasn't a false flag - because who fucking knows. But I can say for sure that nazi groups (and skinheads in general) have historically been a bigger thing here.

This is what real discrimination looks like by a bar owner in Portland:
The Bureau of Labor and Industries has ordered a North Portland bar owner to pay $400,000 to a group of cross-dressers he banned from his club last year, the agency said Thursday.
The bureau's civil rights division began investigating The Twilight Room Annex, formerly known as The P Club, last summer after owner Chris Penner told The Rose City T-Girls not to return to the bar. It was the first complaint filed by Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian. The bureau's deputy commissioner issued the final order. Read #25-13 Final Order.
The penalty is the first imposed under the 2007 Oregon Equality Act. The law protects the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender Oregonians in employment, housing and public places. The order also requires Penner to pay a $5,000 civil penalty.
"This allows them to feel justice was done and move on in a positive way," Avakian said of the cross-dressers excluded from the club. "These cases are significant in providing the sort of justice individuals are entitled to when they're discriminated against."
The bureau interviewed the T-Girls, as well as Penner's employees and other customers. The 57-page order details what the T-Girls described in the report as a "devastating" and "humiliating" year after being told they were not wanted as customers.
The complaint lists 11 aggrieved persons, 10 of whom present as women. The bureau did not reveal the legal name of any of the T-Girls.
