Is South Korea basically like Japan

except with a dofferent language? They seem to share a lot of similarities such as
>crowded environment
>folk religions heavily influenced by buddhism
>culture emphasis on how you behave around others and your actions (communual and not individualistic unlike the west)
>people are friendly
>extremely insular and homogenous society
>workplace emphasises efficiency and hard work
>clean countries

I could list similarities for ages but whatever.

Thoughts?

no

You're in luck since I've been researching this.

>crowded environment

Yes

>folk religions heavily influenced by buddhism

Korea has more shamanism, Japan has more Shinto. Both have buddhists. Korea has a lot more Christians. For some reason Christainity never took off in Japan but took hold in Korea

>culture emphasis on how you behave around others and your actions (communual and not individualistic unlike the west)

Yes.

>people are friendly

Korean males have to do 2 years military service so that kinda makes the men rougher for better or worse. Also Korea was very poor up to the 70s. Japan was only poor around the 50's so Koreans generally behave more uncouth. Korea has a bit more crime like muggings but murders and stuff are lower than the west generally.

>extremely insular and homogenous society

Broadly speaking yes.

>workplace emphasises efficiency and hard work

I guess.

>clean countries

I think Japan is the cleanest but broadly speaking yeah. Specificially Seoul though there's still that grungy feel in a lot of places.

North East Asia nations has some degree of common trait, but quite distinctive

a fucking pepsi logo

Japanese are island Koreans

I swear you could eat a steak off the floor in their subways. They keep that shit pristine. Very rarely do you see trash laying around, and when you do somebody is already in the process of throwing it away, even if it's not theirs.

South Korea is way more intense than Japan.
Japan is more chill. South Korea is no chill.

you can also include all remote developed countries:
Scandinavian countries (pre-enrichment)
Nordic countries (pre-enrichment)
Mountain and island jews
New Zealand

My theory is that the more trafficked the country, the worse the culture gets
USA and China being the two countries with the highest traffic, are also the ones with the most obnoxious cultures

It's like Japan, but with many more crazy rules, less foreigner friendly (unless you are white), more plastic females, and radical feminists everywhere.

Some random tidbits

1. Korean and Japanese have very similar grammar like English and German. So a Japanese person can learn Korean easier than english and vice versa. They both have honorifics and are SOV (Subject Object Verb)

2. South Korea was a dictatorship up to 1986 so its still has that authoritarian streak compared to Japan. South Koreans also protest more compared to Japan. Like violent protests where people kill themselves. That's why koreans have a reputation for being hotheaded in Japan

3. There's a bunch of little differences like piracy is rampant in South Korea but Japan has strict copyright laws so CD sales are still brisk. Jpop is different from Kpop. Japan uses Chinese characters, Koreans use their native hangul letters.

4. Korea has a feminist problem. I haven't seen a lot of feminist stuff about Japan tho it may be because I just follow Korea more closely. Korea has a bunch of leftists who are sympathetic to NK. Japan has leftist/antifa types too many of whom are Zainichi (koreans who live in Japan). Basically their equivalent of african-americans.

5. Korea has no porn industry. Japan famously does.

6. Koreans hate cats, Japanese love cats

7. Japan is console dominated, Koreans prefer PC games

Absolutely no
>different culture
>different views on religion
>different ethnicity
>korea copies while Japan innovates
>not clean (i.e seoul)
>different mindset when it comes to handling/doing things (i.e 괜찮아요)
>promotes hate education towards a particular country (Japan)
etc.
They are more similar to China than Japan.

No, Japanese are shy and polite, Koreans have crazy tempers.

I should know, I am married to one

Ilbe is Korean Sup Forums. Here is a discussion on what they think of Japan translated to english by Koreabang.

koreabang.com/2015/blogs/what-koreans-really-think-about-japan-and-its-netizens.html

>If it weren’t for Japan, Korea wouldn’t even exist. South Korea is the middle ground between brute North Korea and heavenly Japan. By the time we become a developed country with $40,000 GDP, you will realize that Japan is right and just.

>I guess they also have trolls who mock Japan while praising Korea, right?

>Ironically, such voyeurism becomes Japan’s power. We also need to peep on neighboring countries, especially Japan and China, and build a database. Isn’t it funny that their unique perversion is their strength? Just like their otaku culture that cares so much about details.

>Then you may ask why they are much more interested in Korea than in China. Japanese and Korean languages are quite similar in terms of word usage and grammar. So even if they rely on machine translation, they can have a good understanding of written Korean

>Because it’s true. No matter what, our cultural and economic level isn’t on par with them yet.

>This is for real, kekeke. Honestly, all those bullshit comments about Japan on the Korean internet are child’s play compared to Japanese netizens’ comments about Korea, kekeke. They have a legion of netouyos who rush to any Korea-bashing articles, so the website admins can make a living off of it. It is such an outdated notion that Japan doesn’t care about Korea.

>Is Japan really going under? Why do they care so much about this fucking tiny country? Kekekekeke, honestly, Koreans curse out Japan when there are articles about them but I didn’t know Japs were pathologically obsessed with us like that… I guess it’s true that Japan is going under.

>It’s undeniable that Japan is a stronger country than us anyway. Then why are they insecure about our uncivilized country?

kek

You are not a real korean then

South Korea is basically a feminist dystopia where males barely have much rights and the whole nation is controlled by 5 women known as 5 goddesses who have ties to Hillary Clinton, and the whole nation right now is in an uproar over the fact that their current president is one of them and she has been kicked out due to that.

Japan is a whole lot better than South Korea despite its people being weird as fuck.

koreans aren't sexually repressed perverts

POO

8선녀 (8 goddesses). Not 5.

That got my noggin joggin. Not an argument.

I don't care what anyone says the Korean Unification Church is fucking looney crazy batshit insane

My bad. Thank you.

> similar grammar
> english and german
Yeah nah.

no one's posted it yet

.

an insight

English and German share a lot of grammar and words (both west-germanic), unlike Japanese and Korean, who are not even related at all. They may share some traits due to historical factors, but German and English are far more similar, so the comparison is nonsense

Korea
Clean

It's cleaner than god forbid China or any other country in South East Asia (excluding Singapore)

> Koreans se their native hangul letters

you forgot about their Hanja.

I would not say Koreans are friendly, they are very unfriendly, mainly towards foreigners

Compared to Chna its clen. Sure.

Clean like wrecked hors butthole

German grammar is very different to all other Germanic languages. It is the only Germanic language with case inflections (4 of them)

they're certainly not the same, but they have a LOT in common. and Iv'e found that the more you have in common, the more racism you have against one another. look at the balkans, for example. those fuckers are constantly killing each other over who is the most subhuman slav in the region while to the rest of europe they will ALL be garbage. i wish there was a fable like Fox and the Grapes or the 'crab mentality' that describes this sort of behavior

I have lost my cellphone and wallet several times in Japan. Each and every time I got everything back.
You cannot do that in Korea.

>crowded environment
True of Seoul
>folk religions heavily influenced by buddhism
True. Now Christianity is big.
>culture emphasis on how you behave around others and your actions (communual and not individualistic unlike the west)
Except on the roads. Fucking assholes.
>people are friendly
Generally yes.
>extremely insular and homogenous society
Oh yeah. They do their best to copy the West, though.
>workplace emphasises efficiency and hard work
Ha... no. Emphasis on hours instead of efficiency. Hard work = ignoring common sense and dealing with the unecessary extra workload.
>clean countries
Generally. Still can be hard to find a damn garbage can sometimes.

Bet if you say that in downtown Soul you'll get your ass kicked

Zipperheads and chinks are the exact same, but dont tell them that.

man you're out for korean blood

i've lost stuff in beijing wet markets and it was returned
didn't do that in korea, but quite sure it will be
the cutoff for shithole is around the brazil/ mexico/ malaysia tier

Despite what Japan and SK might think of each other, I think they can both agree on their disdain for chinks desu

Accidental sage

Koreans are superior to the Japs physically in every way. But Japanese culture, traditions and aesthetic is far superior to gook shit.

Koreans aren't friendly.

Also, look up the history of Korean Presidents.

Korea has been ruled by Korean Illuminati for decades.

>noggin joggin
you know, not to toot my own horn, but i was the one who coined that phrase

>Koreans have crazy tempers
Too true. Hard to make Korean guy friends because everything is a fucking competition and they get fuming so easily.

Not really, no. Japan is more formal. Korea is more casual. Japan is more cramped. Korea has more space. Japan is cleaner than Korea.

Also, the languages aren't all that different.

Been living in East Asia extensively.

Not at all.
There are cultural similarities but they still remain extremely different. And I'd even come to the conclusion that they are closer to China than Japan, in many regards. They simply didn't have communism.

But yeah, there's a reason why even fucking Chinks hate Koreans more than Nips.

I thought they didn't allow Chinese to access outside internet?

Do Koreans get really mad if you mention them with Japan? Japan has like no friends in asia :(
