This is such an ineffective tweet on multiple levels. He provides no sources as to what the average applicants go for based on nationality, whether or not they stay in the US to pursue a career with said major, and worst of all, he puts a blanket category onto what engineering is.

Like, WHAT kind of engineering is he talking about? All the myriad varieties together (which would make his point moot since it's such a varied field). Does he mean structural, bio, computer, electrical, aerospace, environmental, chemical, or what? Because when I was at UCSD, there was a ton of native-born Americans taking those majors and in fact, most non-American students (those with green cards or working towards citizenship) usually had poorer English skills and did not take those more complicated classes and instead focused on social sciences.
