I'm against animal testing not only due to animal welfare, but because testing on animals directly serves Phama. Animal testing is cheap, compared to what Pharma Corps would have to offer willing humans to go through these tests. It you pass legislation against animal testing, Pharma Corps will have to focus their efforts on their best products. Testing these, will be limited to people who are carrying these disease, who have no other choice but to risk the clinical trials, or die anyway. If these Corps want to expidite their research, they're gonna have to up the cash reward.
Meanwhile, as the CEO of LCA pulls out of his executive parking spot in his porsche, he looks at you walking by and says GIVE MONIES PLOX before speeding off to his $1.5mil home.
They've only done nothing "wrong" because it's impossible for them to do anything right or wrong; morality is an inherently human concept that can't be applied to animals one way or the other. I don't put rabbits into trebuchets and launch them at brick walls for laughs, but I don't feel empathy for them either if someone kills one; as far as I'm concerned they're just wandering sources of meat. Testing pharmaceuticals on animals enables humans to better serve the interests of humans. Researchers should be primarily concerned with the research they are performing, not the quality of life of their test subjects.

This is likely true. Hell, I'd wager any such facility you looked into wouldn't be up to code.
One, because the laws are many and obscure, it's not necessarily "they routinely beat the animals with sticks" level, but can just as easily be "the time between feedings is 10 minutes longer than the recommendation".
Two, because any facility where you inflict pain on animals (or humans) will breed an apathy in those that work there. Go to an old folks home and find people who have a dark sense of humor and most of them are probably pieces of shit, not actually saints that look out for the elderly. It's a function of the job and a normal human response to misery.
