I think Gowdy got his point across. Comey stonewalling could cause a further erosion of trust with the public and might cause the FBI and NSA to lose one of their best toys. If they don't catch the leakers, they will no longer be trusted to handle as much classified info as they've been getting. If they can't protect the info, they won't be allowed to collect as much.
