Why hire a man when you can hire a woman for less? Because in reality some jobs men can do and women can not and vice versa. An example is that men are on average around the world taller. If the job involves the skill of being tall then men will be prominent and if shortness is an benefit then women will be more prominent.
In real terms say the job is cleaning. Some of the cleaning is on high shelves and some is on ash trays on tables. High shelves for men and ash trays for women.
