Why do Republicans think coal mining will save the workforce...

Why do Republicans think coal mining will save the workforce? Even if it were possible to return to the peak of coal output(it isn't, BTW) only about 10,000 jobs would be generated. Investing in American manufacturing for the green energy sector makes much more sense. The entire coal workforce, not just miners but everyone employed in the sector, is about 175,000 people. There are millions of green energy sector employees and growing, with rapidly growing need for high quality manufactured parts and products.

>Not going ahead with the coal mining while investing in green economically sustainable energy.

In 1944 the Germans were able to distill synthetic petroleum from coal. Coal is black gold.

>coal mining will save the workforce?

Who thinks this?

Why do Democrats think social work will save the poor? Even if it were possible to civilize the underclass (it isn't, BTW) only about 10,000 people in a million would be saved and they would all be white. Investing in American manufacturing and not squandering money on social services makes much more sense. The entire population, not just whites, is more than 300million people. There are million of potential workers and small business operators, with able bodies, ideas, an capital, which are currently being squandered on taxes for negros making bastard children while America imports lead-pain from China.

Problem is we had china tier pollution when we were full coal in the 70s. One of the advantages of living in the first world is you don't have to breathe in industrial polluted air.

Coal mining is utterly retarded.
Instead of trying to bring back a dead industry, why not learn how to install solar panels FFS?
[conservative environmentalist here, aka a real conservative]

Democrats want expanded Basic Income and Government Jobs for everyone. With upcoming AI and robots were gonna need democrats in power so they can nationalize industry and give the profits for mankind.

Put all the coal power plants offshore on the coast. Winds carry the smog to Ireland.

>"Only" 10,000 jobs
>if it doesn't instantly solve a massive problem it's nothing
Leftists don't understand hard work. Success comes in increments.

Every single male member of my family for the past 4 generations has mined coal. It's shitty work and they all hated it but you gotta put cornbread and beans on the table somehow.

>green energy
If what you mean by this is anything but nuclear you're wrong.

the left really does hate coal miners, lol

Coal is filthy and inefficient. Splitting funding between 1 good option and 1 shitty option makes no sense.
Coal is a limited resource that's harder than ever to extract because we've already extracted most of it.
The fucking president.
White people get more handouts from the gubmint than minorities, retard.
>hurr but minorities get it at a higher rate by population %
You're still retarded.
I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. Even if you're a retard who thinks climate change is a Chinese conspiracy, don't you want clean air and water?>Put all the coal power plants offshore on the coast
>offshore
>on the coast
...
>Leftists don't understand hard work. Success comes in increments.
Coal is already dying a natural death, fuckwit. "Hard work" has nothing to do with it. Coal is harder to mine for and it's less useful because natural is so much better. There's more natural gas to extract, it's easier to extract, and that sector is actually growing.
You're a natural born follower.
>green energy
>because it makes you glow green
Full retard. I support expanding the use of nuclear energy in this country, but please stop being willfully obtuse.
I just don't give a shit about coal mining jobs. They're an insignificant part of the economy but the GOP won't shut the fuck up about them.

Trump idiots would see the destruction of the middle class if it meant they could dick over black people and do their little nazi shits. If you've got two brain cells to rub together I'd leave this forum.

The left hates all working/middle class. They don't understand hard work. They also don't understand that saving now will benefit you later (they fail at gratification-deterrence).

I make 2.5x or triple what many of my friends make and I'm just an electrician. I own a house and have a nice garden (basically free tomatoes and other veggies half the year). But that moderate success came over a decade of hard work and saving and leveraging my skill set.

How many student-debt laden people do you know making $9.50-$12/hr. I know plenty. Dude if you're 28 years old and making $11-ish....you're doing it wrong. Sorry art majors, guess you didn't get that government office job, and now you're working as a secretary at a dental clinic. Oops.

>The left hates all working/middle class.
Is that why Democrats wants tax breaks for the middle class but Republicans want more and more tax breaks for the rich instead?
kys

Is that the party line someone has told you to espouse?

Who the fuck believes that the democrat elite is going to give you or me a tax break?

Oh WOW, they gave me a $200 tax break for the whole year (hypothetical here). Meanwhile they dole out welfare and government/union contracts that already rape far far far more out of me to begin with.

nah, hates is a strong word, it's more or less snobbery. though for both parties it's mostly just marketing to kulturkampf.

in part due to very successful tactics used by the GOP to use wedge issues to create divides, and by the DNC's idiotic attempt to "stay the course" with polarizing issues like abortion and guns.

>Is that the party line someone has told you to espouse?
>Who the fuck believes that the democrat elite is going to give you or me a tax break?
Some of us aren't underage fagets. I remember the Clinton years, retard.

Clinton would be a Republican today you fucking nigger.

Me too.
Oldfag.
1986 bra

No he wouldn't, because the Republicans have moved so far to the right. Clinton wanted higher taxes on the rich and corporations, which would get him lynched by the GOP.
So you're just retarded. Good to know.

it's about the 10000 votes, silly. no one thinks coal is gonna happen. we just want to be nice to the miners.

Snobbery/Contempt it is.
I agree.
I do believe a lot of them wish they could "be ordinary" Many don't seem to have roots or much of an identity.

Good god dude try harder shill you guys are so easily noticeable

>10,000 votes in deep red territory matter
If coal mining was based in Pennsylvania and Ohio you might have had a point.

Your windmills will never produce enough electricity. You will need to pave over entire deserts for enough solar panels. You liberals know best though.

Are you an idiot? Extracted most of the coal?
>bp.com/en/global/corporate/energy-economics/statistical-review-of-world-energy/coal/coal-reserves.html

*I* want higher taxes on the rich and mega-corps.
And I'm a conservative.
Why tax a guy who makes 40-60k a year for busting his butt?
But a guy making 120k/year who gets taxed a little isn't going to starve.

We could have a progressive and equitable tax system going from 0% to 90%. We need more tax brackets, not fewer. It's not hard to plug a number into a table, so that aspect of the tax code isn't complicated.

Want simplification? Income is income regardless of source. I have plenty of investments, but even I think it's unfair that my passive investment income gets taxed at half what my labor gets taxed at.

anyone notice the jobs created numbers in stuff like this is always low as shit. I get all excited for tons of jobs created, and they always shit on me. do they count all the restaurants, gas stations, bankers?

Go watch trumps weekly address from a few weeks ago he explains we are gonna use the CLEAN coal to make jobs and to gain money to look into new energies of the future. This thread is full of organizations bots and shills talking to eachother

Jesus man, I hope the coal business booms again. I'm from a coal mining town. Both my grandfathers died working in a coal mine. My hometown is fucked. I just moved back after being away for about 20 years and it's sickening at whats happened in those years. I worry about the environment but realize it's not the carbon we should worry about but the methane in the permafrost.

And steel mills that now have cheap enough coal available locally that they can fire the foundry back up? The amount of side jobs created for a main industry like coal or steel is outrageous.

...

LITERALLY A SHILL AND SHARE BLUE CIRCLE JERK

This is what I hate about libs do they realize how much space there beloved green solutions take up? Naive. Nuclear is honestly the most viable solution

>burn the coal

this oughta trigger these right wing retard coal burners

Is there an actual plan for this? I've honestly thought he's been bullshitting this topic to seem cool to working class dudes.

In 25 years when those solar panels are outputting half the power they use to put out, no one is going to want to buy a house with a $50,000 repair/replace bill on the roof.
For all the solar is forever idiots, solar panels have half lives, because like everything else that is exposed to sunlight all the time, they break down.

but drill baby drill was a republican thing, one I didn't think sounded good.

They just don't know anything else.

Families have lost generations is loved ones to the mines.
They can't just get up and walk away, it's their identity.
It makes it even harder when it's labeled as a problem.

But its just tough shit. Natural gas is cheaper and doesn't turn your home town into a toxic fog.

And by the time the prices could change, solar and wind will have advanced enough to still be cheaper than coal

its almost like he lied or something

Because from a consumer perspective it's shit. Millions of jobs and only a fraction of energy supply? That's shit. Not to mention they rely on government subsidies to even provide that much.

It's almost like we pumped a shit load of subsidies into one area of the economy. Shocking.

Oh cool so I have Obama to blame for all the earthquakes raping my state

apparently all the oil was in the national parks all along.

green energy does not work
spending money stolen from tax payers is not investing
see shithead elon musk sho sucks ass and hid his giant solar failure recently
owes tax payer 15B
should be in jail
hope this helps
protip: capitalism and property work

>Want simplification? Income is income regardless of source. I have plenty of investments, but even I think it's unfair that my passive investment income gets taxed at half what my labor gets taxed at

wages aren't really income. wages are an exchange for labor. wages should not be taxed at all.

capitalism, try it

The problem is that we already have progressive taxation and then when it comes to making a cut democrats get pissed off that the progressive tax structure means that any tax cut will give a higher dollar amount to the richer taxpayer because he's the one who pays more taxes.

Example
>Let's cut the $8,925 to $36,250 bracket from 15% to 10%
>Poorfag earns $18,000/yr
>Cut gets him $453.75
>Middle class guy earns $50,000 year
>Cut gets him $1366.25
>Rich guy earns $100,000,000/yr
>Still gets $1366.35 yr
>Liberals cry that it's not fair that the richer people get triple the money back from the tax cuts.
>Well that's how tax brackets work, sweetie. This is the progressive income tax structure that you want.

>$1366.35 yr
Sorry, I fucked up by 10 cents here. It should be the same as the middle class guy.

Just some reality-based numbers to understand:

There were about 250,000 coal miners throughout the entire United states in 2000. When George W. Bush took office.

When Obama was sworn in, there were about 125,000 coal miners, in total, throughout the United States.

Two months ago, when Trump was sworn in, there were about 98,000 coal miners.

Yet, somehow, Obama is responsible for the loss of mining jobs.

And, as OP stated, even the hard core advocates for the mining industry estimate that ... due to technology and other machinery/automation advances ... it is optimistic to think that 10,000 mining jobs will be created in the next 5 years, and that the industry will stabilize at that number. there won't be any increases, and the workers in the industry will increasingly require higher education and advanced trade training to operate and maintain the industry & it's machinery.

About 400 coal burning electric plants have been shuttered in the last ten years, most under Obama, but the trend was started under George Bush. It had virtually nothing to do with any regulations put in place. It had everything to do with fracking and natural gas development.

Once again, Trump is clueless, incompetent, uninformed and a liar.

But, hey. It made for great trumpsplaining in Kentucky this week while he was campaigning for the 2020 election.

during its periods of greatest prosperity the US never needed to tax wages. ordinary people didn't begin paying income tax until about 1940

flat tax is better
look at hong kong and estonia chile and hek usa in 1800s when capitalism ended slavery

Stop being retards.
Why do you thinking they're blasting apart mountains to get coal? Because the coal that's reasonable to mine is gone.
>*I* want higher taxes on the rich and mega-corps.
>And I'm a conservative.
FYI, no you're not. I'm sure your parents are conservative so you think of yourself as one, but go share your ideas at a Conservative convention and you'll get killed.
There's no such thing as clean coal, fuckwit. You dipshits have been talking about "clean coal" for over a decade and it's still nothing more than a talking point.
>coal mining is great, it killed my whole family
>i'm not worried about the carbon melting the permafrost, i'm just worried about what happens when the permafrost melts
Nigga
>things break down over time!
>but coal doesn't break down, it just turns into poison...
Fucking retard. And where are you getting this $50,000 amount? I got solar panels on my roof and a Tesla Power Wall battery for $14,000.
Corn has been subsidized over 100X more than the solar industry but that corn fuel is still worthless. Really boggles the zozzle.
Full retard.

>splitting funding between a proven, working energy source and r&d for a potential future energy source that isn't producing eniugh yet makes no sense
Yes, why don't we just put all of our money into science. We can just print more money later.

The greatest period of growth and prosperity was after WWII, retard.

where is there a socialist country that is rich?
hmmm?
you stupid numbers made up fag
everyone knows capitalism works
you shtibags jsut get mad when some make more justly and fairly

man it's like $5000 dollars in solar cells to power a toaster.

no it wasn't. retard.

>cut our foreign oil dependence
>start selling our oil reserves for literally nothing
>start buying more from sand nigger Saudis
>putting more troops and drones in middle east to protect Saudi oil fields

if they were actually cheap, they would be everywhere.

in 1800s government was less than 1% of gdp
and capitalism ended salvery
sure ditch the income tax
tax rent of land only
geoism henry geroge style
:)

you mean engineering
engineering is far more important than science

I don't think you recognize how a subsidy works. Pro tip: it causes prices to go down.

Oh no, now he's going to call you a retard.

say what?
lol
stealing money from tax payer
giving to business that can cut it on its own
makes price HIGHER
fucktard

>Obama blamed for loss of coal mining jobs

Who told you this? The contention during the election was that Hillary Clinton directly called out the coal mining industry as an environmental menace and implied she would "shut it down." Trump merely cared more about preserving the jobs and livelihoods of ordinary people than tangibly destructive virtue-signaling about environmentalism.

>the trend started under bush

So? Since when is trump a friend of bush, who recently came out of his long and senile animal-painting retirement expressly to condemn the current president? And yet all of this is somehow your basis for an ad hominem against trump?

>did you follow the election?

Solar panels, windmills, etc are not "potential" sources of energy, you fucking idiot. I get 100% of the power I use in my home from solar panels on my roof and a big battery in my garage. Almost every socialist country in Europe has higher wealth per capita than the US.
Uhhh, yes it was.
lmgtfy.com/?q=test period of economic growth in us history
Keep your alternative facts to yourself.
Solar panels are an investment. You can power your house for less than it costs to buy a used car.
That's one result of subsidies. Subsidies also offset the costs of the companies making the products. The government has put way more money into fuel made from corn and gotten fuck all for it. The opposite is true for solar energy.

The whole thing is because of Hillary's fuckup in the campaign and Trump capitalizing on it. She said she'd get them all fired and Trump said he'll keep them working and even expand on them.

Had Hillary not been politically retarded with her supposed base (blue collar), coal wouldn't even be on the board

Am I to believe you or my lying eyes?

the fuck you do
what happens when it rains?
you fukin liar
LIAR
wind n soalr dont work fucktard!!
they are just way for jews to pry energy industry from protestants

>Who told you this?
When Trump undid Obama's executive order barring the coal industry from dumping pollutants debris into public waters he specifically said Obama tried to kill the coal industry.
But this nonsense has been going on for longer than that. McCain and Palin were talking up "clean coal" and expanded mining in 2008.
2/10

>please disregard the huge amount of fossil fuels used in the mining of materials and manufacture of my solar panels and batteries

How much have you paid per kilowatt hour so far? A shitload for the next decade or so. Enjoy spending 10k on less than 1k of energy yearly. Sure hope you maintain them and it doesn't hail.

check your premises

have you considered all the fuel in the sun getting burned so you can run your house.

The Democrats have done more to destroy the middle class than any other group in this country. I wouldn't be throwing stones if I was you.

>The government has put way more money into fuel made from corn and gotten fuck all for it.
The government has gotten exactly the same thing out of subsidies to corn that they've gotten out of subsidies to renewables, solar, or whatever you want to call it.

>The subsidy on corn fuel has helped mitigate the comparative disadvantage of corn fuel to regular fuel
>The subsidy on green energy has helped mitigate the comparative disadvantage of green energy to other forms of energy.

Note that 10k is for a small and heavily subsidized set of panels. The actual market cost is more like 35k and up.

Doesn't change the fact that if the government wanted to buy corn ethanol at $50 a gallon tomorrow it would create jobs for people producing corn ethanol. What the government gets out of the deal really doesn't matter.

>hurr takes energy to make stuff durr
>How much have you paid per kilowatt hour so far?
I haven't done the math.
>A shitload for the next decade or so. Enjoy spending 10k on less than 1k of energy yearly.
They've already paid for themselves. They raised the value of my house by $27,000.
>Sure hope you maintain them and it doesn't hail.
I live in Los Angeles so I'm not too worried about hail.

What, is energy a Giffen good or something?

who says a subsidy makes supply go up?

>They've already paid for themselves. They raised the value of my house by $27,000.
You mean you bought something and it didn't instantly depreciate to $0 in value. Warren Buffet better watch his ass.

Herping and derping this hard is really pathetic.

lol only total losers use those words
explain to me how taking money from tax payers
and giving it to a outfit they wont willingly buy from
is an increase in supply?

>if i'm angry that means my bullshit is true!
The middle class is being destroyed by corporations and a plutocracy primarily supported by Republicans. Stop being a shill.
The solar energy companies that got money from the government under Obama got LOANS, not actual subsidies. They had to pay them back, and even the small number of solar companies that went under eventually paid back what they were loaned.
I have no idea what you're getting at. Are you making fun of me for being smart?

>Coal is filthy and inefficient.
Half the threads on Sup Forums I just feel like I'm doing other people's homework for them.

>I get 100% of the power I use in my home from solar panels on my roof and a big battery in my garage.

You're a fucking liar

Take your 10 longwinded Shareblue posts and fuck right off

>Are you making fun of me for being smart?
No

It doesn't matter where the money comes from. If someone is willing to pay an artificially large sum for any item it makes producing that item extremely profitable and producers rush in to meet the artificial demand.

>Big Business is only supported by Republicans, not by the Democrats
>the Republicans have fought tooth and nail for 30 years to flood this country with immigrants to drive down wages and increase social costs
>it's the Republican corporate donors that forced their candidate in the 2016 primary
Come back to me when corporate behemoths aren't some of the biggest proponents of progressivism and maybe I won't label you as a drooling retard.

people love good product at great price
not a shitty product at high price, hidden by ganking tax payers to make it seem a good price

middle class is being destroyed by governmetn regulation and monopoly democrat anarchy crony
dont confuse competitive business with crony biz

In my part of the country a 5kw panel arrangement wouldn't even cover the power needs for a home on its own over the course of a year. I'm not fundamentally opposed to solar power, it just has such a high initial cost of investment that most people in this country can't ever deal with even when very heavily subsidized. More efficient coal power production using modern technology to reduce pollution can work hand and hand with solar power. This is not a zero sum game.

Saying I said shit I never actually said just makes you look like a retard. I said it was primarily Republicans supporting the corporatist agenda. And Saint Reagan is the only president to give tens of millions of illegals amnesty. Get your stupid head out of your stupid ass.

So Carbon is melting the permafrost? Link?
