The Wonders of Socialised Medicine

I'm a doctor in Australia. This is what you Muricans can expect with socialised medicine.

>Degenerate IV drug user gets Hepatitis C a decade ago
>Now has end-stage liver cirrhosis
>Needs a liver transplant
>Government has a monopoly on drugs through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, you have no choice but to go through Medicare (our socialised medicine system)
>Harvoni, a drug which CURES Hepatitis C becomes available through the PBS
>Consultant Hepatologist (i.e., someone who knows their shit) states he needs to be cured of Hep C PRIOR to the transplant otherwise there is a 100% chance of the new liver being infected
>Harvoni treatment costs the taxpayer ~$25,000
>Liver transplant in the short-term will cost the taxpayer ~$500,000, on top of that he will need lifelong immunosuppresive drugs, will require treatment for the opportunistic infections he is guaranteed to get, and will likely have to deal with a chronic rejection syndrome

>Consultant Hepatologist spends an hour on the phone arguing with a bureaucrat
>"The patient does not meet the criteria to be eligible for Harvoni because he is in end-stage liver failure, but is eligible for a free liver transplant"
>"If this patient does not get Harvoni treatment he will contract Hepatitis C in the new liver, and will require another liver transplant"
>"I'm sorry sir but he does not meet the criteria for Harvoni treatment"
>"Are you medically trained?"
>"I'm sorry sir but he does not meet the criteria for Harvoni treatment"

>This degenerate is now going to cost the taxpayer millions of dollars and will probably end up needing 2 liver transplants

This is the problem with socialised medicine. Everything comes down to strict red-tape rules which are ultimately made by bureaucrats, not by medical experts who actually know what they're doing. Even when the doctors are TRYING TO SAVE THE TAXPAYER MONEY, the bureaucrats don't care. They're mindless drones that follow tick-box approval algorithms.

This is your future.

So the problem is we have a system that works but, as should be with all government matters in a democracy, we need to come to a consensus on rules and regulations when circumstances change or new treatments become available.

Whereas in the US all they're able to do is bitch and moan about giving people "access to insurance" which is a literal joke issue. We spend less than the seppos per capita and as a percentage of our GDP and beat them in literally every key indicator apart from cancer treatment. Seppo healthcare was a fucking meme before obamacare and still is.

I'm sorry sir he doesnt not meet the criteria for Harvoni treatment

Ive been to your country
Australian healthcare system is a million times better than kiwi """"""healthcare"""""" system
If you think aussie healthcare is bad, you would be horrified at ours

Sounds about right, sure it's not Canada? I know if you have refugee status here you get teeth, shots and glasses on the taxpayer dime, same there?
You bitch at paying for health ins in America, in Canada we pay for everyone else's sickness, but not our own, been in the hospital once with whooping cough as a kid, never been back but for stitches, still paying.
Won't it be nice for all the burgers to get lap bands that everyone else can pay for.

>medical insurance companies employ a crack team of experienced medical professionals to assess claims and not the same types of mindless drones that follow tick-box approval algorithms

Must be pretty sad to have to lie about being a doctor on a Mongolian Cave Painting Amphitheatre.

so the it should be more technocratic?

you do know that trained medics also benefit from bureocracy right? specially those in the pharma business and organ transplant business

Hello Ausbro. Former Med School, switched to dentistry because of O-Care. Thanks for spreading the truth about this scam.

How is dental care in your country?

Didn't give you "muh gibs" or what?

Pic semi-related.

If Universal healthcare has so many problems, then why the hell is it not being replaced?

Genuine question, not being snarky. I don't get this whole double-think of, "LOL Burgers can't even do healthcare!" "Actually....it's really fucked, enjoy your future!"

Because once a government has power, it's almost impossible to take that power back.

"nothing is more permanent than a temporary government program."

As an American, I can't even fucking imagine how big of a shit show this would be here. All the fat fucks and niggers leaching even more than they already do. Putting the government in charge of the Healthcare for so many fucking people in such a large area would be such a disaster. Even separating this power among the states would still be a fucking circle jerk.

Literally a meme nation.

They think the laws of economics invert for healthcare. Why are you trying to make sense of their cognitive dissonance?

Pic very related.

>I bought a house & car twice as expensive as yours
>Somehow, this is a bad thing

The way government keeps costs down is by not providing it to those who need it the most.

If this is true, there may be an easy solution.
The Consultant Hepatologist should contact Today Tonight or A Current Affair.
If they do so, it'll be all over the papers the following day and it's likely the rules will be changed very quickly.

We know man thats why we are putting up such a fight. If people want socialism they can basically go to any other nation instead of trying to change this one. Pisses me off.

>the govt works very quickly and the system responds to the need of the citizens faster than anything :)

How naive you are

>I bought a Ferrari and a big house in LA
>The Ferrari only runs sometimes and I don't really use it because it's unreliable and my house doesn't have a roof or windows so it provides little shelter from the elements
>Still they're good investments you poorfag

lel stay cucked

just uh, swap his injection up one time 'accidentally' and uh, kill him, and uhh, save us all and yourself the ahh, trouble of dealing with the degenerate in, ahhh, question

id just like to make the point that this is not normal

>if I ignore reality it'll go away

AND THE HOME OF THE B-B-B-BRAVE

They don't have 25% niggers leeching on the system 24/7 between maori's and PI's wrecking everything though and pay $0 into it

I never thought of it that way
This is probably why America doesn't like socialized healthcare, because they have to pay for niggers
Socialized healthcare is best for mostly white nations like Europe and Australia
Countries with large nonwhite populations like NZ and USA would be better off with privatized healthcare
