When you're listening to a zone, for example, the officer will give his beat number "1431" or "31" for short if they know which one of the two districts on that zone they are talking to...are either the daytime (2nd watch) or evening/afternoon cars which are 3rd watch. 1st watch cars or midnight cars have the R after their #. It stands for relief. When they get a call or a job as its called, if no report is made etc. they may just give a disposition code which is the type of incident as a number followed by a letter which is what they did, found, etc or how it was handled. =========================
