Study: Millennials Delaying Entry into Adulthood

>The traditional markers of adulthood, such as independence, marriage, children, and homeownership, show that the millennial generation is greatly lagging behind baby boomers, according to a new study comparing statistical data over the past 35 years.

>In 1980, for example, more than two-thirds (68 percent) of 25- to 34-year-olds were already married, whereas in 2015, just two in five millennials (41 percent) in the same age group were married. Only 20 percent of baby boomers of these ages had never been married, while more than half (53 percent) of millennials have never married.

>In the intervening 35 years from 1980 to 2015, the share of young adults still living with parents or grandparents more than doubled, from nine percent in 1980 to 22 percent in 2015. While 59 percent of young adults in 2015 lived in independent households, the figure was 84 percent in 1980, or a full 25 percent more

>Home ownership follows a similar pattern. A majority (60 percent) of young adults in 1980 owned their own homes, while in 2015, less than half of young adults (43 percent) were homeowners.

>A final indicator of adulthood, which Anderson describes as “living with a biological child,” revealed a similar difference, although in this case it was somewhat less striking.

>In 1980, more than two-thirds (68 percent) of young adults aged 25-34 lived with their biological children, while the figure was just over half (55 percent) for adults of the same age in 2015.

Unsurprising, they're the snowflake generation, grew up getting told "you're so special!"
When they found out you actually have to work in life they froze up and panicked

>millennials smoke less and less
>become literal manchildren
Coincidence?

>the millennial generation is greatly lagging behind baby boomers,

You know, money is a thing. Just sayin'. Don't let me derail you ...

>Blame the menials and not the generations in charge of bringing them up.

Nothing says adulthood like losing your life savings and house in a divorce.

I think many of them do not have their first part time job until after completing college. I wonder what that stats look like.

>wanted to start life at 18
>had only a couple grand from working at fast food for about a year
>try not to get a good goy loan for college
>try to find higher wages outside of college degree jobs
>warehouses n shit but stop at about 12 or 15 bucks an hour
>still looking and still have to take every other semester off to work for the next
>tfwnogf but thats probably my fault anyway

I blame no one but sorry I didnt get ths dream job and wage from a jewspaper

Don't forget living with their parents while they do to school for 2-6 years - meaning they're 20-24 when they get independence for the first time.

that just shows theyre smarter

what these no-source bait studies really are saying is they want more money from selling expensive ass houses and cars, and new gen buying those less frustrates the jew

>Be Boomer
>Outsource every job that isn't nailed down
>Important Illegals and H1Bs for the jobs you cant outsource
>Insist that any remaining jobs have to be temporary and contract based
>"Gee, why aren't Millenials making the same financial decisions that I did?"

seeing as im turning 20 in 4 months and im unemployed as fuck yeah id say thats fairly correct

I have lived on my own since 19 and I agree a lot of these kids aren't too responsible but the homeownership is a retarded metric to use. I live in Denver and home prices are literally at extortion level highs...only trust-fund hipsters from cali and texas are buying houses right now. all of my friends and many other locals I know are being forced out east where homes are still sanely priced. If you are thinking about moving to Denver, just kys instead.

What this article should actually be saying is millennials are too smart to fall for the lifetime of debt jewish schemes

>tfw 20 and already feel 40

>boomers completely ruin everything for future generations
>holy shit why aren't they living like me?

People who have children later in life usually live longer, and as a consequence their children live longer.

>Sourcing Kikebart
Sad!

>The traditional markers of adulthood, such as
>debt
>wage slavery
>no freedoms
>being a cuck

I fell for the "move out of your family home at 18 or you're not a real man" meme and now I live in a shithole flat with 4 other people.

Rent's cheap but that's about the only thing it has going for it.

Moving back in with my family next year, don't know what I was thinking.

Ironic coming from kikebart, whose readership represents the exact same manchild demographic described in OPs post.

We couldn't fall for them if we wanted to because none of us can afford them to begin with

>Well paid career jobs dried up
>Difficult for young people to enter into career jobs that exist because boomers won't/can't retire.

yeah okay

All baiting aside, this. If "owning" a house that is actually owned by the bank, being married and having kids is the definition of being an adult, I'll gladly stay a child.

Don't forget
> being an alimony obligor
That one comes right after being a cuck.

Good job on the parents and grandparents that raised them, eh?

The job market is much harder than it was for Boomers. Entry-level jobs aren't as viable because globalisation, immigration, and automation have resulted in fewer of them and it's harder to make a decent living with them.

This results in people needing to turn to higher level professional work that requires a degree. A degree will take several years to acquire, varying depending what you're studying. For many, this will mean full independence is delayed until the early to mid-20s. Then you consider that housing prices aren't what they were for the Boomers, making it hard for young people to find a home, and you wonder why it's taking longer to get married and start a family.

It's unfortunately no longer a case of finishing high school, going down to the local factory for a job, finding a 20k house, and then knocking up and marrying Betty Sue who you met at the local bar.

>be 27
>good job making ~$120k
>living with gf for almost 4 years
>no car, no house, no marriage
>save a ton of money
>still have enough to rent a nice apartment and go out to fancy restaurants regularly

These are meme trappings of adulthood. They don't actually mean anything, except signaling to other people that you're like them.

It's the same as college. At some point in the past, it was an important life experience, but today it's almost completely a scam that exists only so employers won't be guaranteed to ignore your resume.

The lack of financial success among many millennials has very little to do with it.

Mom always glorified me moving out of the house and getting a place of my own, earning my own money and becoming an adult man. I moved out went to college, and was on my own at 21. Ever since then, she's been hinting at and even outright asking me to move back home and spend my company vacation days to come visit her, only to be saddened when I don't.

Boomers really are retarded.

Yes that's pretty much how it is in the US. The bank is the true owner of the house, and your wife is the true owner of the children. One bad year, job loss, wife falls out of love, etc, and it can all be taken from you. The best part is you are legally required to keep paying for it all even though you can no longer stay in the house or sleep with your (now ex) wife.

It's quite a genius scam really.

I don't know how you guys have it in Finland.

this

Gen X
>Lets give our kids gaming systems so they can stay in their rooms all day and not bother us.
>Let me allow my son to watch those funny language foreign cartoons, they are obvious adult theme but he still enjoys.
>I don't want my child to be angry because then I have to deal with his emotions "good boy Timmy"
>I'm going to tell my son/daughter that they have to go to College to be successful even though they struggled throughout there entire lives.
>My son/daughter better have a job at 18 even though a majority of us Gen X still are holding onto the minimum wage jobs for the past 10 years.
>GEN Y IS NOTHING MORE THAN A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE, LIKE WOW. THEY HAD EVERYTHING GIVEN TO THEM. WHY AREN'T THEY SUCCESSFUL, JUST WOW!
Really makes you think, huh?

>a generation living under increased divorce and rising house prices get married less and buy less houses
WOAHHHHHHHHHHHH

At least in the case of home ownership it's not really something you can blame on them because we live in a buy to let market where landlords are given precedence over all.

It would help if there were good jobs, incomes that kept up with inflation, reduced fixed payments, affordable housing, decent paid maternity leave, more help with student loans, etc.

You know? A fuckton of stuff we have no control over.

With the increase in property values and stagnation of wages can you be surprised they don't feel ready to move on?.

My God, it's almost like Millennials have to worry about fucking money all the time.

Try telling that to Boomers who are living the sweet life and passing the bill to us, while periodically crashing the economy.

its because of glondald blumpf

>divorce rates and single-parent families skyrocket last few generations
>SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT, why you not getting married?

Gen X was the first group of kids to be exposed to heavy television brainwashing...i feel kinda bad for them. they are noticeably dumber, lazier, and less moralistic than boomers or gen y+

> gf of 4 years
Yes yes well done Slytherin well done, HOWEVER ... watch out for your live in girlfriend to start ratcheting up the "make me an honest woman" pressure in the coming few years.

It really seems to me that the alt-right and more conventional groups are the snowflakes. They lack the personal confidence to be okay with a man in a dress in the women's room, or a black president. Shit I got banned from Sup Forums for trolling conservatives. This is their safe space.

Cheers

Unless you have the cash to buy a house outright, you have a choice: pay rent, or pay mortgage. The difference is that paying mortgage means that you will one day pay off the mortgage and thus own the house free and clear, while paying rent ensures that you will not own anything. Paying mortgage is paying off debt on equity and thus building a future patrimony to hand down to your children.

That generation (and thus their study) includes adults ~35 and under. Unless you're old enough to have been in Vietnam, shut your whore mouth.

Ehhh, this isn't really news. Its sort of obvious to anybody who knows anybody from the demographic. We're living in an age where responsibility is rejected. Very few people strive for true independence.

This will change when the roof comes crashing down. Believe me, it will happen sooner than you think.

They actually rallied behind Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton to some extent because of this issue.

From a purely economic standpoint, they are loaded with college debt, enter into an economy with shit jobs, have to compete with h1b visas and illegal labor.

There are no strong unions fighting for higher wages. Just whiny niggers and feminists.

The housing market in many places is overheated.

And there is no incentive to marry someone who can't commit, doesn't want children.

The real question is when will the neets assert themselves. Or will they be a pussy generation?

The priority right now is fucking survival, not adding a ton of bills we can't handle financially. Everything costs money.

Why aren't you profiting off of 12 year olds by playing video games and making big bucks instead of working a 9-5 job and having to pay rent and bills.

>Boomers:
>graduated highschool and got a nice job with good pay straight away

>Millennials
>Have to go to college/university and put themselves into deep debt if they want the chance of getting a semi-ok job. once they graduate they are pretty much only offered unpaid intenships or get told that they need 5+ years of experience. low skill jobs only go to illegal immigrants. housing is also a lot more expensive now, so they have to put themselves into even deeper debt if they ever want to get their own place

Funny how the adult babies who got everything served on a plate think we're the childish ones.

/thread

Your weakness in personality is evident. You blame others for your failures.

>Traditional adulthood is a measure of home ownership, marriage and reproduction.

That is the problem. That definition is the problem.

Holy shit this. Why do these people never actually blame the parents of this generation and only blame the product of them.

Now I get that at a certain age you're responsible for your own life, but upbringing is what makes you the man you are today.

I'm sure this contemporary degenerate culture plays no part.

The economy has changed dramatically. My dad graduated with Bs/Cs from a 2nd rate Engineering school in 1980 and was making $100k starting in a sales gig. Someone with the same credentials today would either be unable to find a job, or start earning a figure significantly lower like $45k. And those figures aren't even adjusted for inflation.

Marry her and enjoy the tax benefits. Make children, at least three. The furniture and toys from the first child can be reused by subsequent children. Buy a house. Invest leftover money. Build a legacy to pass on, so that your name will be remembered. Secure a future for your children.

>True independence

We'll be independent when it makes financial sense to be independent.

just take a huge ass loan for houses and pay the debt back for next 30 years, easy and very mature :^)

Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

wake up breeder scum NEET LIFE is HOLY LIFE

>Implying it's easy to be a homeowner with a wife and kids before age 30 in this current day and age.

How masculine of you to suckle on the teet of others

>Marry her and enjoy the tax benefits
sure thing kike.

>"owning" a house that is actually owned by the bank

And by "owning" that house I don't get the IRS' fist up my asshole every April, it's worth every goddamn penny

I think there's some kind of weird D&C shit going on targeting millennials. Like the vast majority of this board fall into the category 'Millennial' yet there one of the most memed groups on Sup Forums recently.

Tax benefits are about the only way the government encourages white people to marry.

Yeah, because goddamn jews keep crashing the housing and financial markets. In addition, wages have been frozen for 30 years due to excessive regulation and taxing to subsidize niggers for the rest of their lives.

Oh shut up. I buy my own food, my own gas, and I pay my student loan.

It has nothing to do with
> muh snowflakes

It has everything to do with the economic reality. It is prohibitively expansive to start a family in 2017.

Due to globalization, corporatism, and a bunch of other factors the 20-somethings of today face a very harsh employment market. A market in which they will forever have very little purchasing power, no career growth, and no ability to stick to one place. On top of that let's not forget the looming student debt.

To start a family one GENERALLY needs:
> ability to make money to support the family
> ability to grow roots in ONE place instead of moving every 12 months for a job
> ability to contribute to the financial well being of the offspring

How many of you could say you can check at least 1/3?

Rentier class holding a monopoly on land has made rent and ownership very difficult

Time for a Land Value Tax and a citizens dividend!!

Fuck landlords and fuck unearned wealth

Theyre also the product of divorce generation.

My best friend, quite a bit my senior at 48, lost two houses in two divorces. His youngest daughter just turned 18 but he didnt keep records (yes, stupid) so the ex took him to court and he's paying another 18 years for "back" child support. He just lost his place because his current girlfriend took the rent money to buy booze and smack. Sweet girl, nobody could tell she had a drug problem. Hes homeless now and if he works 5 days a week, the money for the first two go to the ex.

"No kids, no wives" is his advice.

>sell the country's future down the river for Globalist banksters & international corporate profits
>support Globalist banksters & international corporate bluepills about how we """NEED""" illegal mexicans and indian programmers which are used to suppress and stagnate citizen's wages so the CEOs like Gates and Jobs can live comfortably as BILLIONAIRES
>also we """NEED"""" to keep borrowing trillions of dollars from the banksters to keep on carrying out middle-east adventures
>wonder why the citizens of the country are having to live in progressively shittier conditions and the children are becoming worse off than their parents and grandparents generations

Oh the good ole days.

There are people like that in every generation. They idolise their fathers and parrot their opinions. Some are faced with the harsh reality while others avoid it through healthy doses of cronyism and nepotism.

They won't be so sure of themselves when they're stuck with no room for promotion because some old git with more money than he'll ever need refuses to retire.

Don't take it personally. The grandpa shaming brigade is here.

>only 20
>on my own since 17
>closing on a house in a few months
>did it all on fast food pay and contracting
>But them Mexicans be takin' our jobs
>actually easier to get hired if you're white and speak English, even for landscaping

schizo thats afraid to name the jew and get women out of the workplace

>Home ownership follows a similar pattern. A majority (60 percent) of young adults in 1980 owned their own homes, while in 2015, less than half of young adults (43 percent) were homeowners.
>What a bad goyim they are! How can they refuse to sell themselves into a debt slavery to mr. Noseberg to buy home for insanely inflated price from mr. Shekelstein! Its like annuda shoah!

Fuck the 1950's "move out buy a house and a car and have some kids" propaganda that you faggots fell for.

Traditionalism that's less than a century old gets no respect from me.

shouldn't have sold out your own kids for mass migration and cheap Chinese junk, grandpa. Well, at least you'll have a fun retirement, what's with being a white minority in your country

>when you missed "entry into adulthood" because compared to your sociopathic nihilistic parents you were more mature at age 5.

good luck buying a house in 2017 with a sub 30$/h wage

A combination of dwindling employment opportunuties, lack of availability in the housing market, and the latest generations poor upbringing by helicopter parents and single mothers.

>Delayed entry into maturity.
Maturity comes with responsibility, mainly through work. Of course their maturity will be stunted if they are railroaded unnecessarily ito University and spoon-fed a load of bullshit about sociological shite. They lose 3 or 4 years to wasted time that could otherwise be spent developing their personalities in the workplace.

>Live with their parents into their 30s.
I can't speak for other countries but I know that in the UK, there are hardly any new homes to go around at an affordable rate for entry-level workers. Or anyone of the minimum wage. If they got rid of more social housing to decrease the prices a little, maybe it would help. But - muh socialism - stops it.
Alternatively, stop selling off half the fucking new apartments off to Russian Oligarchs and Chinese businessmen who intentionally leave them empty.

>Baby Generation.
Speaks for itself. You got to be fucking stupid to not see how the dominance of women in disciplining children has screwed over this generation. A real fucking moron. No such thing as delayed gratification anymore.

>My brother is a complete dumbass
>Now he wants to give advice
Protip: Don't take it

It's a safe bet that 19 out of 20 men that you would deem are "successful" are married.

I'm working towards doing all those things though. Though it's one at a time.

Why would I move out when my parents let me stay and I can save money and build towards a career?

My parents worked to let me do what I want to do and make enough to thrive, why would I spit on their efforts and take a job I hate that doesn't make me enough money to buy a house/support a family? Just to achieve the status of 'adulthood' quicker?

I plan on doing the same with my children. If I can support them stably enough to allow them to pursue a career that they love and make a lot of money doing, why wouldn't I? Parents work hard to make their children's lives better. My parents are doing it for me now and I hope to do it with my children later.

>entering adulthood
Why? Women aren't adults and elite "adults" are fucking children.

The demographic collapse of the West can be directly traced to the Family Law tinkering of the 60s/70s. Unless those laws are fixed, it's all finger waving. Young guys ain't stupid.

Are you talking to yourself user? Go grab a glass of water and take a break, shit posting is thirsty work.

wrong
go to san fransisco
the regulations say you cant build high
even though its /currentyear/ and the townhouses are NOT earthquake proof!
rentier class is the tax taker

>millennials are delaying entry into adulthood
>millennials aren't struggling to find a starter job because Boomers would rather hire pajeet
>millennials aren't struggling to find a house they can afford because Boomers won't move or build new properties
>millennials haven't been told all their life that they're useless unless they go to university

Great fucking study.

This,
In Murica, Democrats are purposely crippling people and making them dependent on government.
It's becoming increasingly impossible to make it through life here.
>inb4 cheap houses
Houses aren't the problem, I own a house.
It's everything else.
>food
>bills
>gas
>car payments
>phone payments
>internet
I mean it adds up so quickly.

I just have to keep cutting back on everything, it's gotten to the point I just sit at home and do nothing.

I keep the internet on because it makes my girl happy, but everything I own. Cost nothing now.
This is being an adult.
>mfw niggers get free things their entire life
>but I as a working man live in poverty
Democrats were a mistake.

We're ultimately jewing ourselves tho. I've paid more than £35k to other cunts mortgages the past 8 years. If I'd saved all that I'd now have enough for a mortgage but I'd have been living out my car. I cannot wait til the housing market collapses.

> 19 out of 20 men that you would deem are "successful" are married.
Whatever you say lady.

>do you really think somebody would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?

>I got banned from Sup Forums for trolling conservatives.
Things that never happened.

Too many people fall for the McMansion jew and "bank ownership is bad" meme. Anyone in the past 10 years who started investing would have to be an idiot to make less than 10% return. Some years near the bottom were 20%. Anyone who bought a house in that same time is probably paying 3-4% interest. Bank ownership frees your capital for much higher return investments.

Of course this is a disaster when interest is high. So buy low retards. Buy less than you can afford.

>not smoking makes you le smarter :)

No it makes you a faggot, faggot.

Western Frankfurt School education has produced an entire generation of ignorant and degenerate adults in a state of arrested development.

>average house price in Toronto is almost 950,000$
>semi detached bungalow in the suburbs goes for 550,000$
>a small as fuck townhouse with a backyard big enough for a BBQ and small table goes for 500,000$

No thanks.
