America YES!

Build that wonderfully efficient and awesome solar roadways! Makes so much more sense than putting the solar panels NEXT to a road!

You should watch Thunderfoots take on this solar road...

Stupid fucking idea, they can't even maintain the asphalt. How do they expect to keep that working?

thought this shit was a scam scheme

Why don't they just put the solar next to the road? So there's no cars on top of it.

This. Please tell me I won't have to hear of fucking moron politicians and actors pumping up this terrible fucking idea for the next decade.

Why not?

SOLAR FUCKING ROADWAYS

Build the Wall with it

>pavement doesn't generate revenue
>solar panels do
Gee whiz.

its been proven a con. there are cheaper ways to produce electricity, these don't even pay for themselves.

It is, but I like it

Because it's an absolutely retarded idea for numerous reasons

Or put solar panels above the roads, high enough so that big trucks can pass under them.

I watched that. Anyone who continues to pitch that shit is a scam

>now polish people will start stealing solar panels from the roads instead of copper from the train tracks

Fucking people who are supposed to be intelligent lack common sense.

cool

our infrastructure is old and looks like shit because conservashits.

hopefully we end up looking like this

youtu.be/qlTA3rnpgzU

Name 3

The maintenance cost will be extremely high because HEAVY CARS ARE CONSTANTLY DRIVING ON THEM.

Need a solar wall.

If the government is in charge of it, it's a scam.

yup, thunderf00t debunked these conmen

cool
now once again, how much for like 12 million of them needed to pave any useable amount of highway?

Cost
Maintenance
Weather (e.g. ice)

-wear and tear too high
-maintenance needs road to be shut down
-get dirty too fast with diminishing returns as a result
-congestion blocks sunlight
-cost is higher than panels on designated land
I'm sure I can name another 10 if you give me a couple of minutes

they don't even work, they just have shitty leds in them

Glass is very fragile. Apple can't make a $600 iphone that can survive being dropped. How are you going to drive trucks over glass for decades without breaking it?

>revenue
>for government
>not from your taxes

lul

>everybody is driving on million dollar equipment
>mfw imagining the maintenance
oh boy
can't wait to see this shit freeze in the winter when trudeau wants to spend another billion tax bux on stupid shit

That's fluorescent, not a crappy LED powered by an inefficient solar panel sitting stationary in an inefficient position.

can't see the lights
costs way too much
shitty and extremely inefficient place to put solar panels

Funny, here in California our roads are shit because the democrats stole the gas tax money to pay for the 95 percent of highest salary pensions that all the state workers get.

Maintaining a zillion kilometres of roadway (low pop density of America doesn't help).

High initial capital outlay

Solar focusing towers have a better output ratio, there's a good one in Australia that was recently built (I forget the name)

Ice buildup and salting of the roads would absolutely destroy the surface, provided that heavy truck traffic didn't already

>wonderfully efficient
Why do people always flip the fuck out when you try to explain how inefficient solar panels and wind turbines are?
I'm starting to think that people just have fetish technologies that they don't ever want to let go of (ie jetpacks).

Because it seems like a 'clean' 'progressive' 'cool' and 'fresh' idea. Currently they are not viable, but the product holds itself as quite attractive to a lot of people. Maybe not quite a fetish, but somewhere close to those lines

If they need to go under the road to access pipe work, they now need to remove and throw away? A layer of expensive looking solar plates.
When they have finished it all they have to fuck around for ages Makin sure the backfill is level before placing solar plates back on top of it - which is much more inefficient than just making the road of asphalt and grading it.

Should only take 20 millions tons of coal to make the panels

>because the democrats stole the gas tax money to pay for the 95 percent of highest salary pensions that all the state workers get.
You mean jews. Yes i agree our roads are shit. At least they fix the roads in the sierra Nevada

Kek - thanks China!

Solar FREAKIN' Roadways!

America has lots of highways.

This means they have lots of highway medians.

Just install solar panel towers in them.

Immediate access to a road for service.

youtube.com/watch?v=P90Y71ThfQs

The idea is that they serve the dual function of pavement and solar panel, killing two birds with one stone. If you put them beside or above the road, they're just solar panels.

I doubt this is a plausible idea for a variety of reasons, but don't miss the point entirely.

arstechnica.com/cars/2016/12/worlds-first-solar-road-opens-in-france/

This is just virtue signalling at a high level. In France You have a 1km single lane part of a highway made out of solar panels that cost 5,2 million $. IT should feed a small part of a village. Can you imagine how many decades it would take for it to become profitabile, taking în account the maintainance?

>salting
The whole point of them is they are heated and shit so they don't require salt, but that's clearly retarded when it's -45 so yeah valid point

Even if they were remotely viable in terms of practicality, solar panels require a TON of maintenance when compared to asphalt.

You wouldn't be able to drive 5 miles without hitting road construction.

why do these crusty fucks always hold back progress?

solar power is a stupid meme

I like it, they don't destroy the environment that way. Also reminds me of that futuristic snes racing game.

Put the solar panels elsewhere and avoid all the unnecessary problems?

>but don't miss the point entirely.
The "point" is the most mind bendingly retarded shit imaginable. How the fuck can you not realize that?

The only thing solar roadways solves is giving us space to put solar panels. The space is the worst possible space - under the tires of our cars. Solar roads don't give any other benefit.

It's not solving two birds with one stone. It's taking a very well solved problem - roads, and making it impossible by requiring the road material to now be a functioning solar panel that can have vehicle drive on it.

Solar roadways are inherently inefficient because they have to lie flat and can't track the sun. Have you ever noticed a bump, chip, or flaw in the road? Imagine the force that caused that damage to what is basically rock, being applied to what is basically glass. How long do you think your solar panels will last?

We aren't short on space. We could put solar panels anywhere. On rooftops. In fields. On awnings over roads. All of these places would be billions of times better than putting them under the tires of our vehicles.

both look awful. cities are shit

kill yourself stupid lizard fuck.

route 66 goes through the desert you goddamn fucking morons

there's no ice you retard pieces of shit

He sucks dick at politics. He is actually a really decent scientist.

Again, I don't think this is a good idea.

That's cool. I thought they should do this 15 years ago when I was a retarded kid watching mighty Max, Blinky bill and animaniacs. Glad someone else managed to think it up being how I'm too useless to actually implement it

>tfw in libertarian paradise we would all be flying personal gyrocopters
>tfw we literally would not need roads
Why the fuck did the greatest generation allow congress to pass income tax laws all those years ago? They were fucking retards and have doomed us all.

didn't thunderfoot already debunk this shit?

too rich. now stop huffing petrol you subspecies

So what about energy transfer?

This is why solar roads wouldn't work

if they did put them on the sides of the road they'd still get broken and shit because 18 wheelers frequently fall off the roads when its icy

one-hundred fucking percent

> solar panels

> lets put them where there will be high-pressure weights on top of them
> lets put them where there's a history of chronic systemic neglect
> lets put them where there's a serious seasonal thermal contraction issue
> lets fucking put LEDs inside of them with shitty rechargable batteries for night-time operation that surely won't be a fucking disaster
> LET'S MAKE REPAIRING THE FUCKING ROAD COST A SHITTON OF FUCKING MONEY AND TIME EVEN MORE THAN SHITTY ASPHALT

WHAT
THE
FUCK

So it slowly gets sandblasted 24/7 which makes the surface dull and decreases output to 3%? Well that changes everything, what a fantastic idea!

Feels so good , its like driving on glass.

I wasn't defending the retarded fucking solar roads, just pointing out how retarded you are, faggot piece of shit.

>green energy
dailycaller.com/2017/04/03/idahos-4-3-million-solar-road-generates-enough-power-to-run-one-microwave/
>Idaho’s $4.3 Million Solar Road Generates Enough Power To Run ONE Microwave
>$4.3 million

I wasn't defending solar roads retard, just pointing out how stupid you are you faggot piece of shit nigger.

his videos on the self filling water bottle scam are good too

>our infrastructure is old and looks like shit because conservashits.

Crackas be holdin us down.

-cant track the suns path,
-stupidly easy to damage
-difficult to repair
-power transmission infrastructure
-effects of weather & seasons

it would be better to make those solar panels on all rooftops than on roads.

So who's microwave is it powering?

>durhur people drive on them

Great work guys, I'm sure no one considered that when they came up with this idea.

I get to nuke a hotpocket every day for free because of this program.
Thank you taxpayers.

So what solves the problem?

> I'm sure no one considered that when they came up with this idea.

They didn't. Really.
This shit is only a thing due to corruption.
>lets give this scam artist millions of tax payer bucks to make a road the produces next to no energy

>holy shit that looks amazing
>look it up
>commieblocks littering the horizon

meh

wtf i love socialism now

So I hear you want to make your roads out of sensitive electronic panels.

Yep, at first I thought it was cool now I am vehemently against it. Thanks you unshaven nerd.

>Can you imagine how many jobs this would create?
>*very loud sound of millennials checking out*

Threads like this are why we can't have nice things.

honestly we could do that
We need wide highways
put that shit in the middle
have the panels power an electric fence so spics don't steal them (niggers are too retarded to steal them)

How the fuck would i know, i didnt invent this retarded shit. Google it you nigger.

Why not just make the roads out of the sun and cut out the middle man?

SCIENCE!

MONORAIL! MONORAIL!

This shit is such an obvious scam, costs for maintenance of the solar panels will eat any profit, if it is even making profit in the first place.

Thunderfoot debunked this shit already. get off....

US is actually looking into rail systems in multiple states, the obvious problem being that it's a money black hole to get them across the entire US
Would be better to do it when the econ crashes and have rail work be a job you can do for good gov checks while in between emplowment

yes brotha

>comments disabled

Of course

thats kind of cool i guess

Polac uses nuclear power embedded in roadways. Polac is smart. Be like Polac.

I was just making a reference to a Simpsons episode.

solar roads are so fucking retarded cars block to solar panels any nation that builds solar roads will be attacked by Bacon and Water slide squad.

how am I supposed to remember
there's over 9000 seasons of that shit

Do not build solar roads.

Wouldn't piezoelectric roads make more sense?

>how am I supposed to remember
>there's over 9000 seasons of that shit
Stop doing that nigga weed. It's disgusting and a betray on your own race.

>instead of creating solar paint they make expensive damage/snow/gravel collectors
