Is this worth reading?

Looking through some reviews, besides the obvious leftist asshurt, there seems to be some substance in criticisms about the length of hte book, Rand's writing skills, and better alternatives.

No

Just read John Galt's speech at the end. But even that is far too long.

It's also badly written

I saw that it was adapted to film (a couple times?) but everything seemed pretty fucking bad.

Hell of a lot of ShariaBlue in this thread, OP. Book is actually very good. Do find the time to read it.

If you are interested in her philosophy go for "The Virtue of Selfishness". I don't get why so many people tell others to read Atlas (1100 pages) when you can get her philosophy in barely more than 100 pages in a more straighforward manner.

Rand was great philosophy-wise, not that great of a fiction writer.

what do you guys think of this?

I ain't clicking this shit.

Not really, unless you're 15 and politically retarded. Ayn Rand was a warmonger anyway.

Very much worth the read, most people fall in two categories though either they agree almost completely with it or they hate Rand. She got many things right, especially about culture, when you read some of the leftist government shit that happens in the book it really sounds like it was written last year.

The story is an integral part of the message, if you want the abstract ideal then Atlas Shrugged isn't what you're looking for, but it is a good entry into libertarianism.

The movies aren't too bad but nothing compared to the book.

Yes, it's a great book.

The book is of mediocre writing quality and should be treated as independent of the philosophy it espouses because of this.

Like said, read her essay collection it is better.

You know you're only making yourself look like a shill with posts like this? Sup Forums isn't one person, we are allowed to have our own opinions. Whether you like it or not, Ayn rand is for kids, just like George Orwell.

I tried to read which ever one craps on about railroads and gave up because it was shit

her female characters are always a pale comparison to the make protagonists, kind of sad, but yeah worth the read

>Ayn Rand was a warmonger anyway.
Source on that? I find it hard to believe.

honestly, one speech in the book is approx 80 pages

i suggest reading it just to be informed since a lot of people consider it an important book but it's just tedious as fuck and ayn rand is a complete degenerate

Just read it. If it sucks you'll have wasted like a week at most.

It's masturbatory, but it's a fairly solid book.

she was a hateful woman in general and even worse, she was a chain smoker which is a top tier form of a mentally weak degenerate that slowly kills themselves with that garbage all while paying some tool for the privilege to do so

very european

Is great book. Trump supporters can learn a lot. All we have to do is stay home and refuse to work and the welfare class would stave out in a few weeks along with the liberals.

>what they don't tell you:
>It's fucking long
>Galt's speech was fucking LONNNGGGG
>Like stupid long
>It's one really long and thought out meme by Ayn Rand
>It's preachy because of that
>Still worth the read to get some opinions of objectivism

I wanted sources on the claim, not your shitty personal opinions.

>implying the piss poor economy left by the socialist allowed many of us to have savings

no, the plot is stupid, the characters are one-dimensional, the dialogue is bad, and it's too long.

just start with that, if you're interested after that do what the other guy said and read the virtue of selfishness

Oh fuck rare

Read Rand's non-fiction essays instead. She's really not good at explaining her philosophy through narrative.

These.

She was a self-hating Jew that couldn't have Chad. That's all you need to know.

>leftist asshurt
What about the asshurt from the other end of that spectrum?

They have great discourse about the leftist mentality, incompetence of civil servants, and how they team up to make cash off the destruction of society

something about the authors face pushes me away from it

I preferred the Fountainhead.

Honest to goodness, I'd suggest reading Anthem first just to see if you can get into her style of fiction.

ancap here, and no, it's poorly written and boring as fuck

Depends on where you are in your philosophy readings. I wouldn't suggest it as one of your early books but if you're well into philosophy then it's worth a read.

It's tediious and boring. It's also fiction. Men should ignore fiction and study technology, war and history. Fiction is fantasy for angry losers.

I really enjoyed it. Took me a year to read, though.
