So New York is the first state to have free college tuition

So New York is the first state to have free college tuition.

BUT could it mean that state institutions in New York will become more selective toward students from New York and will accept more out-of-state and international students?

I am saying this because of my experience in California

>financial crisis happened in 2007-2008
>Californian state universities/colleges were having budget difficultieis
>literally accepted more and more international students who pay full tuition and made it harder for in-state students to get into state colleges/universities

Will the same thing happen to students in New York state as well?

A thread with great potential but Sup Forums will ignore it because they'd rather focus on petty issues like what Milo was up to than discuss real problems.

Like how you came in here, ignored the main point of the post, and went straight to Milo?

They will just put more taxes on Tyrone and Joey.

I'm helping to keep the post visible.

BREAKING NEWS: New York announces unlimited access to money!

Oh good, because education isn't devalued enough for the current market I guess...

They're trying that here in Ontario, but the extreme low income you need to qualify for that narrows it down to Brown / muzzy ghettos. I'm sure the standards will continue to drop if this is (((their))) plan.

It's not only devaluation of education that is the problem. After financial crisis of 2007-2008, Berkeley are UCs (UCLA, UC San Diego, etc) are having hard time keeping quality professors cuz they cannot give labs sufficient money to do research and shit. I am pretty sure that state unis in New York will experience the same thing if they cannot find some other means of having budget that goes deficit by having free tuition

this is stupid. free college is not the answer. a major restructuring of higher education and reevaluation of who should go is needed.

when i was in high school they constantly drilled into my head that if i didn't go to college i would be a miserable mcworker for the rest of my life and if i went to college, even if i had no idea what i wanted to do when i went, i would walk right out into a job. it's a lie and a scam. now i'm about to leave college with a $300 a month student loan payment and i'll probably be delivering pizzas or working starbucks for a good while, just like i would have if i hadn't even gone to college.

college needs to be for academic elites again. the whole standard of education is going down as more and more musclehead jock retards and birdbrain sorority girls are filling up all the classes. people who aren't academically inclined shouldn't go to college. we need to start encouraging them to go to two year vocational/technical/community colleges instead, which are much cheaper, better for the purpose of getting a job, and cut all the stupid safe-space entitlement shit that is bloating universities.

If you actually did it, you either believed him or decided to send it anyway.
You just sent it to a Minneapolis police station. The phone number is crime prevention specialists. Well done.

>be me
>cucking government for significantly cheaper university
>going to immediately relocate to the US after I'm done with school

I searched the address earlier and saw that it was one for a police station and decided to play along. I had a hunch he stopped following this thread so I posted that I ordered it to see if he'd see it.

I would've ordered it if he asked for proof and then cancelled it right after though just to fuck with him.

The entire collegiate system is broken and corrupt. I'm all for lowering the cost and increasing funding, but shoveling more money over no strings attached just encourages the University to hire ten more assistant vice provosts, fund more frivolous research, create more degree programs that will produce a handful of unemployable graduates, form more committees to devise and revise the curriculum of the aforementioned useless degree programs, and throw up some more buildings in the hopes of increasing their own ranking, all while unpaid graduate assistants do the actual teaching in every lower-level undergraduate class.

We need to stop pretending that these institutions serve a mostly academic function and admit that 80% or more of the people who attend are doing it to get a job, and start directing funding towards furthering that purpose and having classes that impart real job skills. Let Harvard, Yale, and the other Ivies and prestigious private schools take care of the liberal arts students with actual talents and feasible hope for success; Jenny who wants to study psychology at Western Michigan should receive absolutely no financial aid and be actively encouraged to pursue a different path.
