How did YOU survive the 2008 great recession?

How did YOU survive the 2008 great recession?

Oldfags get the FUCK in here!

I put off graduating for another 9 years

You fucked up the economic cycle is 7-9 years you're going to graduate into another recession

2013-2015was the BEST time to graduate, most american grads are making 80k starting now and unemployment is 4.0%

Lived simple. Never had much anyway.

Barely affected me. Mostly hit people with big debts and obligations, and/or cushy jobs that proved to NOT be indefensible.

Loved gas prices finally coming down. Went from close to 5 bucks a gallon to about a buck fifty.

this guy fucking knows

I focused on commodities & industries that thrive in the the times of bear markets and tight spending

>most american grads are making 80k starting now
In what fields?

I was laid off for the summer. Downed the lich king.
Good times.

Even Arts grads are making 70k starting, engineers are making 120k starting, and CS grads are making 200k starting if the move to California

>2013-2015was the BEST time to graduate, most american grads are making 80k starting now and unemployment is 4.0%

where is this i am making half that and I graduated last year.

Just barely. There were liquor stores and bars going out of business it was so bad in my area. It took me six months to find a part time job. Was pretty rough and I'm still paying for it.

what are you talking about leaf?

where do you live and what do you do?

military. i was 20. sucks that everything is still fucked.

I know plenty of STEM grads here who move to the USA because they can't find a job in Canada, American companies pay 80-100k starting meanwhile in Canada you would be lucky to get 60k(45k USD) starting, many such cases!

SI B11 09 07 got me through the lean times.

Chicago, and construction project management. Managing over $10 million in jobs

meant for

Nice meme. I graduated in 2014 and still haven't got a full-time career yet. Also the unemployment is more like 39% and our gdp hasn't bounced back since 2007.

I was in stasis.

>high school junior
>joined military
war....war never changes, its better to be a low paid merc for the merchants than homeless fampai

>How did YOU survive the 2008 great recession?

I was drugged out of my mind, making ~$40k/mo. on average.

Life was good....even though I don't remember much.

ditch digging is recession proof, my man. limp wristed fags need not apply
>tfw you realize (((college))) is a total scam

You mean to tell me you live in Chicago and make ~$40k? If that's the case you may be getting fucked buddy, but I'm in software so I have no idea what salaries are for your field.

Create an account with a fake name on Glassdoor and see what others in your area with your title are making.

>Oldfags

That's me.

About two years later I heard someone on Bloomberg radio talking about 2008 - he said two scary things

1) We almost lost the interbank ATM system due to a lack of trust in the financial system.

2) A major US retailer almost stopped taking all credit cards and debit cards.

Could you imagine what would happen if millions of people found out they could not buy food with credit / debit / ETF cards, and then found out the ATM's did not work?

I was living in a halfway house where my money was basically handled for me. lol good times

I was just starting first year of college in NYC. Very disheartening, I was working at a bar and watched people wallow in their liquor while complaining about the barren job market. I also just got inheritance and a friend advised me to invest in Sirius satellite stock. Had I listened I would have profited 76k.

Not to mention the food and gasoline distribution system operates on something called "just in time logistics" which means there's no long term store of anything it get delivered everyday

If the financial system seized up companies wouldn't be able to pay each other or the workers to distribute goods, gas stations and grocery stores would be empty in LITERALLY 24 hours

unemployment insurance, a little bit of temp work here and there. towards the end of it, i used food stamps as well. i have never told my family about the food stamps

You would've suicided if you did that. SIri was the #1 whipping boy stock at the time

Wasn't working at the time but boy did it hit me hard. Ruined my family - parents lost their careers and got divorced. Won't ever forget those shouting matches. Poor fuckers will be working odd jobs until they retire.

Where have you heard of this. Im in food science masters and a) us companies wont hire me despite being a graduate becase work visas are a bitch

B) the jobs offering to even somewhat consider hiring me pay 60 - 80 k which is 80 - 110 k in CAD.

Are your figures for CAD or USD? I know software engineers out of school who are making only 80 - 100k USD wich is still 110 - 130k CAD.

Became a NEET and lost 50lbs. Wasn't bad.

I murdered old people and stole their pension money tbqh lads. Not a good life, but still an honest one. My mate Baz topped himself though.

Started my apprenticeship in 08 at a factory, got trained by people that were fired and had their 6 months left

Good for me, but very depresive to be trained by people with 20 years seniority that were laid off

>How did YOU survive the 2008 great recession?
I was on an 8 month tour in a sub.

>most american grads are making 80k starting now and unemployment is 4.0%

top kek, no one is going to believe this obvious bullshit

Those pants and boots.

I started college in the fall of 2008. Took me six years to graduate, so I basically partied and fucked my way through the entire crisis and recovery. feels good man.

My dad worked as a high up in a technology position at Lehman Brothers, AMA

I graduated in 2014, now I'm making 105k/yr as a network engineer, though I wouldn't say that this is common outside the technical fields.

Sold my dick to some rich faggot kikes. Not my proudest dollar tbqhf

We never recovered. Learn to garden. Buy metal with whatever money you have. Become proficient in defending yourself. It's hasnt even begun.

Savings enough to take a few months off + trade skills to use to make a few bucks on the side + previous employer was eager to rehire me when a new spot opened.

Bought a bunch of gold at $600 an ounce.

My job is just shitty enough that the pay is low but competition is low too and there's always a demand. I'm a simple person so it's good enough for me

Town I lived in was literally unaffected

34.

It benefited me greatly.

bump

I didn't, I didn't survive it at all. I was in one of the worst two job categories of the time: Transportation(truck driver) and Construction.

I also had a shitty job, only 2 thousand in my name and my transmission broke down RIGHT AFTER THE RECESSION. I was unemployed for 2 years. I lived on unemployment benefits for all that time and I lost everything.

I learned my lesson though. I paid off all my debts, fixed my car up and good, put my savings up to 14 thousand, lived simply and when I got laid off again 4 years later I landed on a net and cushion of savings. Live simply, live cheap, live like a poor person. Most of all TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Be as healthy as possible.

THIS IS A GOOD REASON I SURVIVED THE RECESSION. I survived because of being RELATIVELY HEALTHY. I don't take any medications, average body, no conditions of any kind. Eat healthy. I lived with no medical insurance for two years and nothing happened because I took care of myself. If I can give you all ANY advice is to take care of yourself as much as possible, don't drink, smoke, drugs, eat junk food. You don't want to be diagnosed with something only to become a poor fag right afterwards.

Have a union job with a seniority system. I am so senior at the company that for me to get laid off, the company would have had to shut down.

Moved to another country for work 2008.

Came back for the glorious dawn of a new British Empire 2016.

Canada wasn't really hit hard by the recession in 2008. Our major housing crisis is still forthcoming.

I was in the military at the time and I didn't feel any effects. I knew a few people that were selling their homes for 300k+ that bought them in 2005 for like 200k.

I worked a shitty job and lived cheaply, much like the rest of my life has been. Turns out, when you already have nothing a recession isn't really a big issue, you just keep doing what you were doing before. I was lucky to have a job at a gas station that was pretty secure so I just weathered the storm there for a couple years.

Socialism, everyone

>120853739
Its not well known, but the Australian mint was doing emergency currency production runs because of people withdrawing money from banks. Shit only calmed down here when our PM gauranteed all deposits.

Nothing much. I was just starting to work back then. barely affected me.

There were bad rumors going around about the solvency of accounts at the Perth Mint as well at the time.

>120864993
Same here, the Australian goverment kicked that motherfucking can down the road as hard as it bloody could.
>Literally gave everyone free money (I got $800).
>Blew the largest housing bubble in our history.

We didn't get to go on vacation for a couple years. Other than that nothing changed in my immediate life.

I was still a millionaire from the nasdaq boom 8 years before

Dude stop greentexting the post numbers.

PROTIP: click the numbers and it will >> properly for you.

Kek!

OP said oldfags only!

never had an issue .
i was making the most money then. no kids, no debt.

It's all been hushed up. It scared the goverment so badly that no one even acknowledges it happened.
They are trying to condition people here that large denomination bills ($50 & $100) are 'bad' and that a cashless society and withdrawal limits are 'good'.
The MSM is fully backing this and the average normie Aussie is so fucking braindead they will buy it.

Curiously, from what I here our C-notes are thought to be among the last to go because they're still the most fashionable, basically. That's an oversimplification, but it speaks to the psychological factors.

Now, a "withdrawal limit" is no better than the older meme of a "bank holiday" or really even the Cyprus "bail-in."

There are many instances even in recent history (e.g. Argentina) that folks would do well to read up on. Bank runs are no joke.

Here in Canada people say we avoided the recession too, and that our banking system is extremely "safe"

Turns out our banks got a massive bailout but it was never mentioned in the media, per capita they got an even larger bailout than the American banks with TARP

too young to remember

private union
private corporation

>socialism

ok

>even larger bailout than the American banks with TARP
TARP was like what $700B give or take?

Meanwhile $27T went out the back door to foreign banks while the fed lied in front of congress saying they din gib nobody nuffin.

I was in high school, was a non issue

The goverment here knows it will need extreem measures next time, specifically withdraw limits.
In the meantime unlimited visas for mainland Chinese can probably keep our bullshit housing ponzi economy stitched together.
Fuck me our working class is pissed the fuck off though; the anger below the surface here is white-hot.

It didn't even affect me. I was making more money then that I ever had in my life.

Forced me to find work outside the US, currently in flag, is it safe to comeback Sup Forums? Did Trump dismantle enough of Obama's shitty policies that I can make a decent wage?

Poorfag. Didn't notice.

yeah no

(Checked)
Angry enough for right wing death squads?

Put off college to join marines, made some good money, got my college paid for, now I live pretty comfy going to school for free

More important at this juncture is to take names.

Who's going to get taken in and put on trial?

My dad was fucking rich. I didn't notice.

If it happened again would you use refugees?

underrated

lol same.

>most american grads are making 80k starting now and unemployment is 4.0%

Was still in college. Bought a house after I graduated at the bottom of the housing bust that's worth 3x what I paid for it now.

Feels good man.

This guy. Absolute legend.

Also by being 14.

Much as I detest him and regret not attending one of his globalist speaking tour stops near me just to throw something in his face, at least he's bright enough to have a decent sense of humor.

I design websites and 90% of my business comes from the US. For a few years there it really sucked hard and I was making peanuts. Americans seem to be loaded again though so it's all good now.

>>Live simply, live cheap, live like a poor person

Underrated

He's the one that unzipped China's cock for us and started fluffing. Total homo.

By living in the 3rd world country

Good shit, but 4 years of Lib government and the China problem is just getting worse. And then there's also the enrichment of Jews thanks to Libs

Rudd might've been a pussy cuck but at least he had legitimate economic expertise. Saved our country from becoming a third-world shithole
