U.S. Apprenticeships and Trades

Realistically how could the U.S. implement some type of trade apprenticeship program like many European countries have? I believe our country does a very inadequate job of training young people for work, and apprenticeships are one way to remedy this substantially, many people in America believe that there only chance at good employment is college, so many only know about that or believe it's their only avenue, and many end up getting degrees which leave them in debt without career prospects, worse off than many people in trade careers anyway.

Not only that, but the alternative many people face is training via low-skill service jobs such as retail or restaurant work, which are useful for paying for school or bills as a student or living with one's parents but obviously not as good a career option as plumbing, electrician work, carpentry, etc. What stops the U.S. from having a more European-style apprenticeship-style program and what can we do to create one hopefully?

There are union and non-union apprenticeship programs in every major US city already. The government doesn't need to do anything.

There are also vo-techs, colleges, and all types of career schools which teach classes in things like electrical technology, heating and air, etc that give you a base knowledge to get a foot in the door. Better programs of this type are frequently feeder programs for larger employers in the area.

>t. electrical engineer who started his career from a vo-tech electrical technology education

>Realistically how could the U.S. implement some type of trade apprenticeship program like many European countries have

Just keep the government out of it because the government ruins everything they touch

>Not only that, but the alternative many people face is training via low-skill service jobs such as retail or restaurant work
The whining millennial cunts should be happy with even that much. They have it too easy and they need to learn some responsibility.

> What stops the U.S. from having a more European-style apprenticeship-style program and what can we do to create one hopefully

Probably because the European style involves importing Polacks to fix your toilets and there's little actual economic development and infrastructure being built thanks to communism AKA no trade work anyways.

If you like the European style apprenticeship programs go visit Canada where you can't get hired even if you are a skilled tradesman. The American system is fine.

Germany has a very good apprenticeship program without needing to import shit tons of Polish trade workers.

I doubt it unless German tradesman are working on the government dole. (AKA glorified welfare and artificial public sector growth)

DON'T GO TO COLLEGE

>responsibility
>from generations that said "fuck the future, I need my pension and sex tourist trips"

I'm convinced the reason for so much "mad" is that previous generations don't want to face up to the fact that they paved this world, for better or for worse.

Better answer. If you're using the 911 GI Bill though, look at what constitutes "Full-Time".

Because it could be the difference between a few thousand and getting absolutely nothing other than free tuition.

How would one sign up for a union or non union apprenticeship? I'm assuming with union you go to the union and speak with them about it but what do you do if you live in a state with no unions? Is there a place you can go to find apprenticeships?

I took a test got into an apprenticeship program, attended school 3 times a week for 2 hours a day and 8 hours sometime on Saturdays. After 3 years I became a journeyman in a trade whose full rate is 120 an hour. We have them already.

Again, why do we need more government influence on employment anyways? Is it because you're too dumb to save up some money and go to a trade school or community college on your own? I literally do not understand what the fucking problem is.

How to become a tradesman:

Get 2 grand
Go to your local school and get certified.

It's not that fucking difficult you wanker.

>non union apprenticeship

You cold call non-union affiliated construction and contracting businesses and say you would like to be put on as a helper in the hopes that could apprentice for them (Tell them you already have tools and if they hire you, go buy tools)

Also depending on your state you can go to a community college or private trade school (or even vocational high school at night) where you can take classes which would also look good on a resume. I know some states are weird though. In my state, for example, to qualify for plumbing apprentice schooling you already need to be an apprentice for a company who can sign you off as being allowed to take the course. (Massachusetts is a retarded state, I know)

Every state has labor unions you just need to find out when they are accepting applications and go to the Union hall. They mostly put out limited applications based on their needs and attrition rates. Also depending on where you live you might have to travel pretty far in the state for work. My local is in NYC and I also live here but were densely populated and heavy in construction. A new jersey local could say cover all of north Jersey to the shore for argument sake so you could be put on a 3hour commute from home.

>Union

You know someone already in the union or put in an application that never gets a response. Unions are tough to get into. Some are easier than others to join depending on your location.

>get high paying IT job
>girl in OP's pic marries you and you have sex about twice a week

Life is good. Also doesn't help if you're attractive to begin with though.

>IT """job"""

Get a real job. Try one that actually involves some hard work.

Don't fall for the college meme.

Sweet

What kind of electrical engineer?
Are you an actual PE? Do you work on industrial control or power distribution systems?

What do you do?

I'm a real engineer, not only in title. My job is hard and not many can do it. Is it physically hard? No. Is it stressful? Yes.

You SHOULD go to college if you're intelligent. If you can handle high level maths and sciences, there's no reason not to go to college. If your IQ is above 110 and you're drilling holes for a living you should seriously reconsider your life choices. No reason for you not to be drawing up schematics or diagnosing illnesses at that point.

>doesn't help if you're attractive
nigger what planet you on? the only thing that matters is looks, and if you disagree you're probably ugly

I got free education at a trade school thanks to a scholarship my states give out. Didn't cost me a penny and now I have a job that makes 40k a year after just 2 years of working

My God sauce plz

This video was pretty good, but the channel itself is even better, quite redpilled

I'm thinking I agree.

Finances comes into it after looks.

Also IT is a trade. I never got a college education, I got certifications.

Dude look at the tattoo, that is Alina Li, Lee, Some L.

>muh stress

Grow up. Every real job is stressful.

Some jobs are more stressful than others, britbottle.

internships are tax deductible but most businesses don't know that and the ones that do require college which really isn't that great at teaching you how to do a job. I'm all for apprenticeships, there would have to be a mass way of spreading it around. Big tax deductions, and the major news outlets would have to report on them. Solves the problem of "we need free college"

Cache sucks ass.

Alina Li, she's a pornstar

Please, give me a less detailed description of your occupation.

Why do you do that? Just go on the internet and trigger people? Do you hate humanity that much?

Why are the trades so divisive in terms of the people who work in them?
Some of the guys are absolute bros, friendliest people on the face of the earth, others are dumb and have huge ego and aggression issues. Is it just the lower entry barrier?

Try doing some construction work. It's far more rewarding than your little computer """job""". I don't think you'll be able to handle it, no chairs to sit or cheetos to stuff your face with while you're working.

Yes that's true, but if you didn't already figured this out, don't go to college.

yeah if you're a faggot

Iron work

That's not a white girl you disgusting degenerate.

>Try doing some construction work. It's far more rewarding than your little computer """job""".

is there anything more cringy than people who try to act like labor jobs are somehow more 'pure' than desk jobs? if you're unable to understand that the world we live in today requires non-labor labor like IT then you might as well just go live in the woods.

I've been to countless construction sites. Do I think I could handle getting to work at 6 and leaving at 2?

Yeah, I could handle that.

Do you think you can architect a full network proposal for 5k users?

Pick the better trade, IT.

Get into trucking, after a 1 week course you will be making over 50k in your first year and after a few years you can easily clear 6 figures. All while traveling the country. Truckers get portrayed as a bunch of dumb poor inbred rednecks, while some are they still are making more money than any millennial neck-bearded hipster with a masters in women's studies that criticizes their career choices.

Let's not mention the herpes.

I work as a Longshoreman and I think so. If you're breathing then you can get in. Having no standards means lots of scumbags. If you've got seniority and know people you can do whatever you want.

It already exists. It's called the US Navy.

Its a good career if you like crystal meths and random cock sucking (giving and receiving) in parking lots. Bonus of you like to travel and sit in traffic.

any yet no one fucking cares becuse you're still a truck driver. your job will be replaced by robots in the next ten years.

Dem lot lizards will get you every time.

And what do you do for a living, besides mooching of taxpayers and mommy?

Being replaced by robots is a huge scare though.

Welder here. Don't fall for the welding meme, most welding jobs are shit pay. Don't do welding, carpentry, or machining. Do HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or diesel mechanic.

im in paramedic school

yeah also watch what trades do the welding in your state. i joined the sheetmetal workers union in ohio wanting to weld but it turns out the pipefitters union does all the welding here.

>Worked software tech support
>Got fat as fuck. Knees and back were fucked
>Fuck it. Like Woodworking
>join cabinet maker as apprentice and and assistant finisher
>on feet 8 hours a day
>fucking chub rub
>lose 40 lbs of water weight and can't eat a lot cuz heat will make me sick
>get better paying gig
>work with real dudes who don't give a fuck
>am happy and healthy for first time post graduation

1. Turn on the internet
2. Type in trade of interest, read facts, watch videos, whatever
3. Buy some materials
4. Try it out
5. Show a professional you're not utter rubbish at it and get hired for pennies to see if you're worth it

They literally all rook arike. Just type in "asian".

You just have to sign up. Expect to take a few copies of your high school transcript to prove you've taken some algebra. Deadlines tend to be tight and don't expect to get into a union apprenticeship program the first time you apply.

Controls and I got my PE a few years ago after doing the bitch work for another PE for about 5 years.

Are you taking the fire fighter course also or are you gonna just stick with cutting holes in walls to winch fat asses out?

Pipefitters are getting more and more into HVAC, really a dick move. But you also bring up a good point, that it's smarted to do something that INCLUDES welding. Nobody wants just a welder.

waste of time, do what everyone else does to get jobs these days

-nepotism
-lie on resume
