Is automation only a mainstream meme?

Give me a hand with this, Sup Forums. This board has conditioned me to not trust anything the mainstream media tells me and now they are spouting shit like "AI, algorithms and robots will take at least 40% of jobs in the next two decades". That can't be real right? Why the fuck are they pushing this stuff? To demoralize people? "Yes, no need to study and work hard, goyim, you'll be replaced soon anyway!"

They'll probably push it as we'll get to work less and enjoy life more but in reality they're just going to kill us.

Trips of truth.

I work in manfacturing and automatic machines are doing alot of jobs that humans could do but it would make the product cost a lot more if humans did do it. As for AI that's over blown I've never encountered anything that could be called AI all automated machines do a very specific tasks and are pretty expensive to setup and build so they'll always be jobs in manufacturing for low volume products or one offs

Pretty much this. Even with jobs that are hard to automate they will eventually try to replace those people with more automation just so that (((they))) can live.

>will take at least 40% of jobs in the next two decades

This is why we need migrants, to fill the lack of workers in Europe.

Automation leads to luxury communism or getting gassed

Yeah this contradiction infuriates me.

they've been saying that self driving cars aren't the future they're happening RIGHT NOW and millions will lose their jobs for years now
self driving vehicles are still sluggish and bumbling around with unreasonable sensor mistakes being made in situations with basically no interference
imo this tech is incredible and will find great use in like warehouses and other controlled environments
they will never become so affordable that the average person can afford to throw away their now obsolete car with no payment and instead buy a brand new car that in all likelihood will be far more expensive than a typical brand new car

No OP, machines doing work is just a fotm fad, I'm sure it'll pass

It really triggers my autism when they say shit like this about country's with up to 20% unemployment rates.

Warning to all anons, acquire enough wealth so that you don't need to work anymore. Those who can't do this before the jobs dry up will be culled

Universal basic income is a death sentence. When everyone relies on the government for our food and shelter and the average person provides no value to the government, it will be in their interest just to kill us all off.

Start buying stocks in the companies implementing and managing the automation and you might be able to survive.

You've seen the video in your image, right? There's no need to take 40% of jobs to basically destroy society as we know it.

Self-driving cars will be millions of jobs gone. The instant a company perfects natural language modeling, you can say goodbye to maybe dozens of millions.

People saying job X or Y won't me automated because of engineering costs are delusional. The entire tech industry is working to transform machine learning in a commodity. Even 5y from now options should be exponentially better.

ITT luddites.
Automation represents as big of an existential threat as the mechanisation of agriculture did. None.

r'uh r'oh

>but it would make the product cost a lot more if humans did do it.

Oh yes and eventually when all jobs are replaced, everything will be dirt cheap and we'll all be on welfare, but it's okay because we can buy everything we want for pretty much nothing.

cool
and goode

there it is everybody

automation is part of a larger narrative used by socialists to justify basic income.

The socialists want everyone to think that robots will take all the jobs, so there will be no jobs, so we'll need a basic income. It's ridiculous.

People will always find new jobs.

>implying the industrial era was in any way not a hellscape for most westerners
It made England into a third world shit hole and yes things got better but not for the people who lived through it. My guess is that automization will require vast state control over the state population and Alex jones will be proven right

Don't be a faggot I never said its great but the alternative to automation is moving production to china since companies are always going to chase the biggest profit margins. Also i get payed pretty decent wage for the job so it's definitely better for me that it's automated because the company would definitely cut wages to compensate for higher production cost ie employing more people

I do not see anything majorly wrong with automation. I support the idea of technology advancing to the point where it replaces heavy labor jobs or any other occupations in that sort of field. I even support Artificial Intelligence and robotic limbs. I believe technology to be one of humanity's major accomplishments.
