Isn't making a nuclear bomb wicked easy? How come only the government makes them? What stops some autistic rich kid from getting some uranium and cracking an atom?

>an atom
>an

What?

>Isn't making a nuclear bomb wicked easy

No

Cracking one atom?

Just cracking one atom open?

I unironically suspect you might be retarded.

>using the slider meme completely wrong

/thread

then do it you shit

In the US youre allowed to legally produce nuclear weapons with a uranium refining liscense and thats why Elon Musk is producing ICBMs

Would you mind elaborating? AFAIK it's like a two ingredient recipe.

even if it was how are you going to get uranium?

If you want to take down a country, the best way would be to attack the electric grid in hundreds of different places. If you could prevent them from being repaired for a week or so, you would see some serious shit.

Refining weapons grade uranium is expensive, requires a large warehouse and probably illegal. Its way easier to just acquire old soviet warheads

Either find it through radiation or steal it.

For fuller info, please watch Countdown to Zero, but the bare min. is 19 men, at least 4 with PhDs in nuclear physics and at least 4 machinists.

It is easy to cause a reaction with uranium. The only issue is the enrichment proses is energy intensive and expensive, so that cuts out doing it from raw material because any power supplier would catch on in minutes. The enriched stuff is highly controled and has a super rare black market because that is the kind of crime you don't get a trial for its just straight to the ditch with you but people have been caught moving it before. So if you get the materials the hard part is done.

Doesn't matter, we can just shut down the atoms making them useless.

...

People would lose their minds.

Currently downloading. Ty for the tip.

It's not like all enriched uranium that was undergound has been found though, right? I get that it's hard and punishing to pursue or acquire it, but there are plenty of autists out there, you know?

that meme doesn't work like that, monkey.

Weapons grade uranium (235) only exists in a 1-40 ratio with uranium 238. Refinement would require 60,000 centrifuges.

this bomb uses plutonium as well, which is arguably harder to obtain than uranium since it is not naturally found in nature

Yes there is plenty of uranium ores out there but in its raw form uranium just doesn't have a large enough pertical size to ensure a thorough reaction. To be truthful you really wouldn't stand a chance of getting a firecrackers pop out of the raw stuff. It has to be enriched.

What the fuck are you doing with 60,000 centrifuges, do you know what a centrifuge is?

Weapons grade material is very tightly controlled. Machining tolerances for the actual load of fissile material (and the rest of the bomb, in fact) are incredibly tight. Conventional explosive triggers have to be absolutely perfect. And any place some rich guy wants to try and make it happen, governments are spending more money to get it first /make sure he doesn't.

in the US certain isotopes are restricted to buy, and require a degree in nuclear chemisty or a company employing one to even buy them

if you want to from scratch you need several tons of raw ore to refine before even starting the to seperate out the needed isotopes

mainly it's a time or money sink, why bother?
there are faster cheaper ways to break nations

If you really wanted to fuck up a country just load some wooden boats full of niggers in chains, ship them over and wait a few hundred years.

>No

If bunch of autists could do it with 1940's tech it can't at least have gotten harder.

there was a boy scout that build a nuclear reactor in his shed a few years back out of radioactive clocks, he also was found to not be breaking any laws

dog bless america

what happened to the guy who was found with mercury or some type of chemical weapon a few weeks ago in the US? They closed down streets and everything it was the same day the highway caught fire.

That just scared me

One autistic triggering away from nuclear holocaust.

The material cost for fissile material is YUUUUUUGGGGEEE

it was only about 1% of US GDP in ~1943-1944

That was a long time ago

>Isn't making nuclear bomb wicked easy?
Brazilian intellectuals

I think I remember that story.

Pretty sure the Feds still confiscated his shit.

>Enriched uranium found underground
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Some autistic fucker built a nuclear reactor in his backyard in the 80s or something.

This is pretty high quality trolling. Too bad pretending to be retarded isn't that much better from being actually retarded.

ITT:
pol makes coments about matters no pol-autist understands

Yeah I remember that. Although building a nuclear reactor is easier.
And I thought it was out of discarded smoke detectors?

Yeah but radiological bombs are a lot easier and more accessible, which is why they're a bigger terrorism concern.

Despite the fact that they did scenarios and found that more people would be killed from panic than the actual dirty bomb.

Please enlighten us. Not everyone is blessed with common core education.

Huemonkey Physics. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

...

It requires extreme precision in manufacture plus a lot of math to ensure you've engineered it properly.

Straightforward, yes. Easy? Certainly not.

The hardest part for most people is acquiring weapons grade material.

Go to the mines in aus

The difference between a backyard nuclear reactor and an atomic weapon is like the difference between a 5hp gas generator and a 5,000hp top fuel dragster.

Too many people assume that because they both have the word "nuclear" in their descriptions they must be nearly identical.

This.

...

t. Hue intellectual

...

Exactly. Not saying it's easy but fundamentally a large mass of decaying material, insulation, and some form of peltier device would be enough to produce electrcity.

Even a favela monkey can make a simple 'gun' type nuclear bomb like what was dropped on Hiroshima. Some of the support equipment might be too complex, but if you just get a fuckton of Uranium-235 - about 100lbs of it - then you only need basic casting and machining.

To get that, you need to process countless truckloads of natural uranium metal in high-speed centrifuges that can separate the lighter U-235 from the heavier U-238 - BARELY lighter, so it requires a lot of centifuges to do it in a remotely feasible time.

Higher yield bombs use plutonium, which must be synthesized in special production-purpose nuclear reactors, and require a lot of precision-designed and machined explosive "lenses" of different explosive velocities to compress a core of Pu-239. The problem with synthesizing plutonium is that, again, you need to use a lot of centrifuges to separate the Pu-239 from literally fucking everything else, including Pu-240, which is too unstable to be useful in a bomb, but is only 1AMU heavier, so even harder to separate.

tl;dr there are some simple designs a shitskin can manufacture if they somehow get a massive quantity of weapons-grade enriched uranium-235, but anything plutonium requires a state-backed level of support.

You don't need centrifuges to separate Pu 239, doing chemically works fine. The way the bombs are designed is meant to deal with 240 contaminants.

Well, I stand corrected. I would've figured the raw product from a reactor would have too much 240.

Point stands about gun-type tho.

It cost a stupid lot to make an atom bomb for almost no gains in making them. The only people able to make them, won't do it unless something huge is in it for them.
Not to mention how dangerous it is to handle that much nuclear material, you risk critical mass exposure once the mass of the fuel gets too big.
Getting the fuel is also impossible, as almost every source is tracked in the modern world. You can't just take any uranium, you need a specific isotope that is not easy to come by.

You can't get that kind of fuel without someone knowing about it though. You can get some radio stuff, and put it in a conventional bomb to make a dirty bomb, but you can't get the fissile material to make a basic nuke without somebody knowing and doing something about it.

It is easy. The hard part is getting the fissionable materials. Takes the infrastructure of a nation or large company to do that.

Unless, of course, that (((somebody))) wants you to get a nuke.

That's the point, m8. It's highly improbable that they can even get the material for either type.

This isn't a movie though. Fissile material used in a bomb can be tracked, down to the exact mine it was extracted from.

Did you make that yourself?

That's the point. If a rogue actor gets their hands on enough material for a bomb, it means somebody has been backing them.

>making nuclear weapons is easy
>that is why almost nobody can do them even though everyone and their moms have uranium
At least time for memes
