The USSR wasn't revealing any information but when they collapsed in the 90's their military archives were opened up to the public and we could finally see the crimes they committed. However the archives were quickly taken over and closed by the current Russian military. If any historian goes to ask about a certain topic the Russian military gets to pick and choose which documents they look at.

The SS was originally meant to be of pure aryan stock but after the very first winter they had depleted them in overly aggressive offensives. By the second year of the war the Nazis were willing to recruit almost anyone except Blacks and Jews, which only very few made it into the SS divisions.

Everyone was waiting and watching trying to figure out what was going to happen.
