The AfD would either splinter (which it may still do, if Petry leaves) or simply keep moving further to the right (because being contrarian and loud is the only thing they have going for them), alienating all conservative voters, who elected them out of spite, rather than actual ideology.
The AfD is done. Gauland is the likely winner of the election, people like Höcke will remain in the party, the party will become more and more outrageous and people will simply not be able to deny just how far right this party is. Keep in mind that their political ambiguity was their main selling point. That is how they got their numbers. They tried to unify the entire right spectrum. And that is over now.
