Diggers Lament

It was with great sadness, that we saw
a dusty old digger, turned from the door
for a century he and his mates had drunk
and laughed and cried, and lived through war

But now it seems, he is not the right class
No suit, no tie, no belt of brass
To him it was all a tragic mystery
Who were these Australians, who had forgotten their own history?

Somewhat in shock, we skulled our beers
and rushed to join, our aging peer
hey cobber, we yelled, knowing his tounge
he turned and stared, eyeing us one by one

We built this bloody country, said he
with our bloody hands
we spilt our blood, we gave our youth
and this is the thanks we have

In our day the pub was for one and all
a place for laugh and cheer
at the very least, an honest bloke
could find an honest beer

Now noone wants to know us
they throw us on the street
sometimes I wonder why we bothered
getting butchered, like raw meat

the fair dinkums we were known as
as we fought the war of hate
but most of all, we aussie blokes
fought for one another - as good mates

Now I look around at Sydney
Well, it just ain't the same
the crowds - they aren't my people
what they are is just a shame

they shove, they push, they toot their horns
they speak american if you're lucky
the dinkum aussies, my cobbers and I
we're disappearing in a hurry

there's no shouting, mateship or blokeyness
and 'bloody oath' is considered crude
they think they are all winners
I just think they're bloody rude

they carry on, throughout their lives
chasing the almighty zac
but they know no joy, they have no mates
they'll die alone - for moneys sake

and what's worse, he sighed, is not here and now
but where we're going to be
and I ask myself, as I slowly die
what happened to my country.

David Downie, 2000

Fuck the city. I just wanted to go to a small service.

YEAH MATE I THINK IT WAS ANZAC SQUARE; NOT PARK

WELCOME

OVER TO DARWIN NOW, BOYS

F

Always a moving day. At least some of my hipster cunt mates in Melbourne know to show respect today.

AUSTRALIA BELONGS TO ABOS

WHITES GET THE F*CK OUT

...

Happy Anzac day /pol,lest we forget

...

...

Life in Australia is comfy as fuck, and there were teenagers 100 years ago who knew that and felt so strongly the need to defend it that they volunteered to be shipped around the world to fight the Hun.
They will not grow old as we that are left grow old.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Darwin always seems so casual haha. Cheeky blighters.

...

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be
Done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the
Cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli
How well I remember that terrible day
When the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called suvla bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He showered us with bullets, he rained us with
Shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
And we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again
Now those who were living did their best to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for seven long weeks I kept myself alive
While the corpses around me piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, Christ I wished I was
Dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
And no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
To the green bushes so far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

F

WELCOME MY DEAR BROTHER

WELCOME, WELCOME

Victorian reporting in

Up in the high country, currently sitting on my balcony sipping on a bushells tea and enjoying the rain

Who else /comfy/ here?

Same mate, foggy here too!

YEAH ITS A TAD NIPPY AYE
GOD BLESS

Fucking tops song.
youtu.be/E22gszljklc

Thanks man, respect to you too

We both lost plenty back then.

Great...
Another year of watching children march in a parade, dressed poorly, wearing their grandfathers & great-grandfathers medals...
They shouldn't allow people to march that didn't serve.
Both my grandfathers served in WW2 and a great grandfather in WW1. Both grandfathers hated the idea of the unworthy being allowed to march.
Just honor their memory in a way that doesn't seem as though you are basking in glory that isn't yours.
Just my .02c

F from commieleafland

Not many left alive mate. At least they are acknowledging their heritage and past. But I agree their faces should be humble and sombre the entire time and not lapping up any glory.

But I think it's alright to show a bit of pride in your family and nations blood.

Yes, American.
Even Aboriginal men volunteered for service, in spite of their non-recognition as legal citizens.

Good lads.

...

Lest we forget those who fell and lest we forget why they fought

It's a farce to honour the dead on one day of the year and disgrace them the other 364

Fucken morons tßh, fighting wars at the other end of the world for nothing.

Same to you turkbro

Yep, willing to spill their own blood won them respect in eyes of the public and they were recognised as citizens not too soon after.

Like the white disgraceful marxists walking around in our unis though, it's a shame so many of their young have lost their way as well and lapped up that shitty American victimhood culture.

Pissing down in Adelaide right now

Maybe you'd know why they fought if Germany ever had an Empire that was relevant outside of the European continent

SEE: OTHER VIDEO I LINKED IN OP, FUCKWIT

We respect those who answered the call and gave there all.

...

Likewise to your fallen brethren.

Fuck naw m8, you had no business in this war...and you were still pussies from what I heard by my grandfathers.

I am proud of the actions of my grandparents but I and none of my family are presumptuous enough to assume we have earned a place in the parade alongside those who have served. Just because both men have now died doesn't mean their honor can be handed down as though it is contained in the medals themselves.
We honor their memory by spending ANZAC day in quiet reflection, thinking on the sacrifice they and many others made.

I took this photo yesterday at La Trobe University
What do you reckon lads?
Lodge a complaint? They put the posters up fucking 24 hours before Anzac day. This shit was deliberate.

WELCOME
MY KINSMEN

AND YOU, BROTHER

>complaint

How about a public execution?

Fair enough mate.
I don't disagree on any particular point.

Who else /dawnservice/?

They had a Huey at the one I went to for Vietnam

this would be appropriate.

they fought well

GOD BLESS

Self hating hipsters are the absolute worst. Disrespecting their own country because it's trendy, day of the rope when.

r8 my aussie flag redesign

Shit tier bait desu.
Even in WW2 I recall the Germans planning maneuvers around where the Australian regiments were not because they were renowned as the hardest lads to fight.

Cheers mate, lest we forget

F

GOD BLESS, COUSIN

"Why should we fight" he asked me,
"'Cause England is at war?
Why are they fighting now, Dad,
What are they fighting for?
What does it mean to you, Dad,
To babes, and mum, and me?
The Germans won't come here
From away across the sea.
So why should you go there, Dad,
And leave us here to cry?
Is it cause England owns us?
Is that the reason why?"
His eyes look widely at me,
I tightly held my son,
And this is how I answered,
His questions one by one.

"We fight when England calls us,
For in her sacred keep
The ashes of our fathers
Lie in her soil asleep.
And many times for England
They fought that she'd be free,
And they are part of England,
And so, my son, are we.
And some may pass her by, lad,
And some may scorn her hand,
But we must be forever
A part of that fair land.
For everything we have son,
That's good and fine and just
Was washed in British blood
And given to us on trust.

"And we must keep that trust, son,
Against the force of greed.
And fight beside old England
Whenever she's in need.
And once again she's calling
Across the Empire wide,
And all her Empire answers:
"You'll find us at your side"
Oh yes, we're owned by England,
But we own England, too,
As you are part of me son,
And I am part of you"
