Progress isn't inherently positive, it's become a buzzword for change regardless of consequences. Sometimes what a liberal will call progress is incredibly regressive in nature, like the rollback of political expression to protect people's feelings.

If the goal is to live peacefully and leave the world in a better state for our kin you must have a strong cohesive society that imparts the necessary morals to make said community possible.
