I'm coming up to the end of my first year at uni and I hate it. I hate my course, I hate the university, I hate it. I don't go out anymore, but I hate my room. I'm thinking of giving it up, trying to find more secure employment or training and earn some cash.
My main problems however are as follows. Firstly, I already signed all the paperwork to live for private accommodation with some people I know on my course and some others they know. Backing out is gonna be a huge palaver. And secondly, I haven't got a clue how my parents will take it. They love me and want to do well but I get the feeling off them that, if I were to fuck my life, they would hate me, or live in permanent dissappointment, and rightly so.

I was in the same position as you, I got a full time job (working in a bank call centre, grat job that paid well) and paid as little lip service to my course as possible. I actually do personally believe intelligence is genetic, I'm just saying its not scientifically proven. You can just look at pygmies or around in Britain alone: there are many isolated inbred people in Britain such as in places like Grimsby or Crewe who themselves score very low on IQ tests and have a higher propensity for crime.
But its not confirmed by mainstream science, so I can't day for sure, and anthropologists deny it, so that has to be my official stance. But even if it did turn out to be true, I still wouldn't support racial discrimination because *we ourselves* score lower on tests than Jews, Indians and East Asians (Britain also has the third lowest IQ in the Western developed world), so arguing for racial discrimination is shooting all of us in the foot.

By all means ignore me if you want because I don't profess to be a good mentor but I was in a similar predicament and think I can shed some light on what not to do.
Try and stick it out, for one. Talk to someone, find out your options, but make sure you know dropping out is an absolute last resort that you must take. I didn't do that, just gave it up, and I can't forgive myself - it's been hanging round my neck ever since.
Now, if you do drop out, make sure you fairly swiftly create a plan for your future and work towards it. Don't let yourself rot searching for an "easy life" because, again, you won't forgive yourself years down the line when you realise you've essentially wasted all that time and still have little in the way of a future.
