I think even if he wins the war, the West and other anti-Iran regional powers will try and remove the whole family from power as part of the peace deal or on condition for accepting the end of hostilities not fuelling future insurgency. He could step aside on his terms (perhaps in exchange for an agreement that he doesn't face a 'warcrimes' kangaroo court or have to go into exile) but then I fear one of his uncles would just try and seize power in the ensuing vacuum to keep the family in power.
I think he'll have to go in the long-term because he can't remain in power with at least a third of the country completely irreconcilable, but he should be allowed to preside over a transition and rebuilding period to maintain stability and continuity. I think the best scenario is one where that's permitted and he can properly find and appoint a successor acceptable to the people that preserves the status quo while giving the country a new ruler.

USA succeeded because everyone there abandoned their former nationality and became american, in Yugoslavia its residents didnt want to abandon their nations and many actually opposed "Yugoslavian" nationality that was forcefully pushed by communist party. So you had artificial country with artificial identity, forced upon already existing ones whom citizens never really accepted it in some bigger numbers. It just couldnt have worked
