Here's the thing about Stephen Colbert: he's said a lot of shit in the past. You might remember CancelColbert, but that was really the tip of the iceberg. Dude loved saying tranny.
So why did CancelColbert fail? Because he was able to hide behind the "I'm just playing a character" excuse and people on the internet still liked him at the time. Problem is, now he doesn't have those two things backing him. He's pretty well reviled on the internet nowadays, and he's no longer playing a character.

If you actually try to hold them to their own standards, you might just make them realize that their own standards are idiotic, that sometimes it is "just a joke," and maybe, just maybe, they'll change for the better.

All you need is the cockholster quote. Colbert already successfully evaded the ban controversy and it'd delegitimize our position. 'Ban Colbert' didn't work because Colbert didn't mean it, but he meant the cockholster quote.
The problem is that Colbert is at propaganda levels. Find a monologue in the last year that hasn't had Trump in it, you can count all of them on one hand. All we need to do is paint Colbert as going too far and the left will start to doubt itself.
It needs to be done from within, Rick Wilson style. We need one of their own advocating that Colbert has gone too far, and that he's proving the viciousness of the current media--just look at all the people celebrating him for 'finally saying something'.
If advertisers are convinced that the liberal media is starting to go too far then they can feel like the heroes who rein them in.
We need to either find an advocate or make one.
