They didn't want to conquer the world, they only wanted to reverse the Treaty of Versailles. It's unfortunate that such a costly war was waged on the only nation that, in the last hundred years, has tried to and could have saved us from the present we're currently living in. The unfortunate side effect to this rebellion was expediting the process. Even if you think other methods could have been employed then, I don't think they could have, and I'm especially doubtful that today any other method could work in order to free us.
