Be a baby boomer
Make objectively horrible financial decisions that lead to the worst finical collapse since the great depression
Spend all the country's money on wars around the world, and nation building
Destroy the housing market
Wonder why Millennials are poor

Millennials literally grew up during what was almost a depression. Of course they're poor.

Are there a shit ton of dumb millennials who can't manage their finances? Of course. The thing is there were the same number of Boomers like that, except the economy was so insanely strong that it didn't matter. They could spend out the ass and felt no repercussions.

Thankfully I'm not retarded, so I save most of my money. I have $15,000 in the bank, and with the DOW as it is I'm going to start investing.

Couple that with spending 10 years paying off loans/interest and....

There is your problem. In Germany we call this "Generation Praktikum", which basically means that many youngsters are employed as interns but do the same work as full-time professionals. I mean there are so many factors that go into that, shitiest parents of any generation, more older people we have to pay for, general inadequacy being raised in a baby proof world, and generally being the youngest generations. Principles are more important than knowledge. You can acquire knowledge, but principles are something you have to be given as a child, or figure out for yourself after years of mistakes. The reason milenials are so fucked up is because they were raised without principles, without a moral code. The only thing they know is the only thing they were ever taught - "be tolerant", "white = bad, black = good", "don't be racist", "women can be strong too", "white men are privileged", etc, etc, etc, et fucking cetera.

That's all they've ever known. It's like raising a child without ever teaching them how to speak. Once they reach a certain age it will be too late to start their education and they will end up functionally retarded for the rest of their lives - that is what millennials are - handicapped by their spiritually desolate upbringings which may never be reversed.

I can attest to millenials throwing money away.

Be me at 23 (currently 26)
Make terrible decisions with money because I didn't know any better
Parents constantly bailing me out
Eventually realised that them paying for me was actually holding me back from being a responsible adult
Recently move out with £2000 in a savings account
Paying goy rent, savings have dried up due to a delayed start on a job
Going to work 70 Hour weeks to recuperate at least £1000 of savings back
Got £1500 in an ISA
Savings are slowly on the rise again

I wish I'd taken accountability earlier in my life. Whilst I get that there's some structural BS that's against us, you can either try and change it (which is unlikely), or work with it and do what you can. I'm going to write up a financial plan of the next 10 years in terms of what I need to meet me own needs.

If I'm honest - I think it's a lack of planning which lets down most millenials. I've cut my costs ridiculously, getting better deals on my phone contract, cutting my gym membership for home workouts (free) and I buy oats and whey protein in bulk so my breakfast is sorted for months and costs peanuts.

Also - cut emotional spending. If there's no practical reason to buy something and it's tied up in 'wants' over 'needs', don't buy it. Save your money. Buy something you don't need and regret it? Return it, it's simple.

We won't all be millionaires, but we can save for a comfortable old age if we plan ahead.

Lots of deluded people in this thread.

Becoming truly wealthy has nothing to do with SAVING money. Most banks cannot match inflation and your cash is worth less and less as every second goes by.

The only way to become rich is to dramatically increase your income flow, higher and higher and higher.

You can do it professionally by climbing the ladder and constantly adding to your education. More and more qualifications, hunting out better and better jobs. But that takes forever. You're better off breaking the law.

No one has ever gotten rich saving money.

Michael Wright
Michael Wright

If I'm honest, it's all dependant on your outlook towards the situation that'll dictate how you handle it.

Let's be honest, it's a fucking dire situation. Whilst I'm working pretty much next to minimum wage, but I have good bosses who see the value that I offer. I think it's about creating opportunities for yourself wherever possible and surrounding yourself with good people. Seriously, if you can find an employer that is chill, it'll make your life so much easier and you then have some wiggle room as far as professional development.

I agree though - wages should be higher and I've come to the realisation that slaving in the career I did my degree in isn't worth it. Instead, work an easier job (I work in admin/client service) so I can focus my energy into something that society will see as more useful will benefit me greater in the long run.

Certain industries are dying and there's no point mourning them, instead it's about your willingness to adapt and provide value where nobody else can. There's a reason every filmmaker and creative out of college gets paid peanuts, it's because there's thousands of them who would do the job for nothing.

My aim is to find a specific skill that likely won't be made redundant in the next 30 years and hone it so that I can expect a decent wage for it.

I moved from the US, you need to learn how to cook. Christ, food is so cheap in the US.

You can bake a shitload of things for next to nothing.

Dumplings, eastern Europe style, learn to make them

Use ground chuck to make meat pies and such, use fat to make roe, add flour and milk for gravy.

Frozen veges and fruit are so fucking cheap

Find the specialty stores, not expensive, specialty to buy things like sausages, tofu, rice, and shrimp.

Learn to cook with cabbage

Learn to cook Asian and Indian food, it is very cheap after buying spices and the spices last a while.

Base of 90% of Asian sauces is 1 part oil 1 part sugar 1 part soy 1 part vinegar, add things like lemon juice or ginger or brown sugar.

1 lb Ground pork, cook it, add 4 spoons of brown sugar and 2 spoons of fish sauce, add ginger, serve over rice. That is like a $2.5 meal for 4.

When I started living in London I was paid £1700 a month. £400 of that was taxes, £210 was the travel card, £425 was rent. I haven't even bought any food yet, or paid other bills like internet and clothing, which you can't seriously go without. This is one reason why I left my ex, she had run up credit card bills and was never paying them off, just sucking away all our remaining money. At least on my own I could control spending effectively.

The problem that our parents didn't have were the low wages combined with high costs of housing. People can't save squat because they're all paying off debts and housing and travel costs. Why else have payday loans companies boomed?

I'm a teacher now, and you'd think that it was a middle class profession, but most under 35 can barely afford a house here, they want to save but the majority goes into rent. You have to wait for your parents to die so you can sell their house.

Even inside of Europe you can't rely on public transit.

25 km to nearest town
a bus goes to town, leaving at 7:00 AM
a bus comes from the town, arriving at 4:00 PM

The ticket costs 7 euros a single way, 14 euros total for a round trip. The bus takes 50 minutes to travel the 25 km because it zig-zags through the countryside.

For comparison
20 minutes with a car, costing around 5€ one-way (including gas, maintenance, and taxes)
55 minutes with a bicycle (I paid 600€ for it 7 years ago and around 50€ per year for maintenance)
4 hours to walk the distance. Walking shoes are around 170€ a pair for me (I've big feet. About 33cm in lenght or about 1 foot 1 inch) and I replace those twice a year.

housewives were paid in oppurtunity costs. they added value to the family by saving on ridiculous bullshit with their life skills.

millennials simply refuse to learn how to do basic shit, and instead prop up these otherwise useless industries.

Bay Area fag here. Tech companies bring these kids in from all over the country and give them $200k/yr just for showing up.

They don't know they are living in a timeline and that timelines don't last forever. They pay $3,000/mo for a 600sq/ft appt or for a single bedroom in a 3 bedroom flat.

They don't think this is a big deal. This is just how their work life has always been, and how it'll always be. They don't know that they're wrong.

Nigga I haven't bought myself an item of clothing in 5 years except socks and underwear.

Working 20 hours a week, I make about 800 euros a month. My school costs me 50 euros a month, health insurance costs me 150 euros a month, rent costs me 300 euros a month. Public transit, bike repairs, phone plan, internet/tv, gym costs me about 150 euros a month combined. Food is gonna be about 100 euros a month.

I've got nothing to save. I would work more if I could, but if I ever want to finish this law degree I really can't.

Also, you probably won't enjoy parts of it. But you'll feel good when you see your mates still working at Sainsburys when they're 25 with no hope.

You'll be experienced and be able to go contract or self employed and live a comfy life.

Stay at home and save the first few years as well.

split pea soup

Jesus if I wanted to live like a goddamn pleb Id move to Europe.

Seriously- 25 minutes of your time is too much to waste on split pea soup.

Your problem is that your time isn't worth more.

Don't focus on saving a dime, focus on making a buck. If you want to escape wage-slavery you will have to get into the headspace of generating value/revenue/income, not saving pennies.

Just keep your stupid opinions to yourself and go enjoy your heart attack and the company of your pruny old broad, Cletus.
