It's actually Irans fault the Middle East had an Islamic revival. Before the Iranian revolution the entire Middle East was being secularized. Then Iran had its revolution, and tried getting other Muslim countries to rise up and overthrow their secular monarchs/dictators just like we did with the shah. So the Saudi king pretty much gave the Wahhabist clergy pretty much full power over domestic issues in exchange for staying in power. As for the rest of the Middle East when they saw that Arab nationalism wasn't getting rid of Israel and western imperialism, we convinced them to try Islamic nationalism.
It's in the Iranian constitution for us to try and export our revolution to other countries.

If the Iranian revolution never happened the entire Middle East would've probably been turned into fully secular countries. Thankfully that didn't happen.
