Companies (I mean serious companies, not McDs) no longer want to train employees. The reasons for this are somewhat complex. But from what I've heard, it has something to do with the portability of benefits, or how easy it is to take your benefits with you when leaving your job.

Employers basically have no faith that their employees will stick around, and so are understandably hesitant to offer training. This is the reason for those outlandish memes about job postings asking for 30 years experience in Node.JS.

In order to get a good job you need experience, because they absolutely will not hold your hand like they used to.

Well look at it this way kitchens are loud and communication is key for a good service so when your carrying a stack of plates you need to be vocal and say behind and make your presence known especially if you need something from someone else. And dish usually geta shit on regardless cause thats the way it is i usually wait a month or 2 to try to break the autismos out of there shell and make them a bit more outgoing i never expect a change overnight but ive had kids who wouldn't say a word in there first week and 2 months later there like a different person. And chefs are usually mean because of copious alchol and 16 hour shifts

Too many young people want high paying jobs but don't actually know how to work. They want to be handheld through everything and shown exactly what to do instead of taking the initiative to just fucking figure it out. I've been taking part in the hiring process at my company lately and finding competent people is such a disaster. 90% of the resumes we get are trash that look like they were slapped together in 10 minutes by someone who didn't even read the job description. The few people who do look like they have the required skills either can't answer basic questions about their supposed profession or lack any ability at all to think critically.

I just got a software job at one of the biggest companies in the country. And it's weird; there are Indians EVERYWHERE. Like over 55% of the people are Indians. It's like, what the fuck?

I'm an engineer, and I'm only 26. We're not looking for perfect, we're looking for a basic level of competence. We'd absolutely love to hire younger people (they're cheaper), and inexperience isn't even the problem. But we can't afford to waste a bunch of time and money while someone barely competent to tie his own shoes diddles around and never accomplishes anything. We can't afford to devote a senior engineer to tutoring you on shit you either should have learned in school or should be able to figure out with google and a little bit of effort. Most engineering graduates we interview can't even answer basic questions about engineering theory or respond intelligently to piss-easy logic problems. Or at the very least we'd like someone who isn't 30 minutes late to the interview.

There will always be at least one entity with human level intelligence and a versatile, all purpose embodiment (ie a person) to maintain anything run by robots. I worked in a completely automated factory. Materials came in on one end and product came out the other. Errors are virtually constant in any factory that must be prevented or remedied by people.

Mostly operates on research and actual competency, unless you major in liberal arts propaganda.
