How did this even spread

...

How is the situation in Bongland? I've noticed the 0 media coverage too. Bit off, if you ask me.

Wait so those infected dont have to pay?

lel

Secretly it's just like the WinRAR trial thing though. You can just click it away and all your files are still there.

>Continuing evidence that the NSA is breaking the US constitution

Take it to reddit boys guess this isn't politics

Legit wondering what happened and who done it?

They will use this as an excuse to try and seize or ban Bitcoin

For everyone's safety of course

Top Beads

>don't click suspicious shit
>don't have any problems with retard-tier malware
Whoa!

>every day for months people try to get internet regulation through
>this happens

Time to say goodbye to the wild west days of the internet. Shit is going to get regulated very fast now.

>Storing your important files on a computer.
I'll admit I'd be cross if I lost my 'work' but thats about it, I've been waiting to buy a new pc desu.

>NSA had known of exploits for years
>Built tools to abuse exploits
>Never told the companies(windows included)
>Attempted sale of tools fail by Shadow Brokers
>Microsoft notified now
>Microsoft save face by patching one thing a month before
>Shadow Brokers proceed to leak NSA tools and exploits

>Weapons grade tools and exploits available to everyone
>This attack was amateurish and only worked because of how good the tools were

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

Is there a way to get rid of this without paying? I have important files that I need right now, but I can't afford to pay 300 bucks. Fuck my life.

>WanaCrypt0r 2.0
WanaCrypt0r 1.0 had so many bugs i guess?

Could have been pretty much anyone once the NSA 0 days leaked

Once the exploits got out it was a matter of days, you can buy pre-made ransomware kits and fit them into the exploits with little coding skill

>lol watch these cute cats
>cutecats.exe

>The security hole has been patched for modern Windows versions, but not WindowsXP – and the NHS is a massive user of the legacy operating system.

Is isn't likely to affect your average joe.

helllp HEEELP

So it's just bitcoin faggots trying to jack up the price. Ban it all.

There's a small chance whatever version you caught has a known exploit, but most of them don't

You're very likely fucked

Bump

How bad was FEDEX affected anyways? Waiting for a package.

>yfw hackers threat to publish your "X" folder online and send it to your family
how fucked are you?

Repost

Fake and gay

You're not wrong

Rip off your harddrive and wait if a fix turns up

haha
good luck publishing several terabytes, nerds

According to [[[police]]] you should never pay and just accept your loss.

If it's really important 300 $ is a small price to pay, then pay another 100 $ for an external HDD and stop visiting Russian porn sites.

>kek

this happened in Spain

Let me know when planes start falling from the sky. Apparently lots of air traffic controllers still use WindowsXP.

Till then it's not happening. This is not a "botnet" attack. This was mainly due to stupid people who use Windows and click on shady emails without giving a fuck. These types of attacks are very common. This particular attack only got highlighted because it hit the government service industries.

>Those tabs open
Kek

It's not real

it was only patched in march
so if you don't update windows regularly you can get jewed by the ransomware.

This exact method has been around for the better part of a decade. It doesn't get access to your files as it doesn't upload them anywhere. The only difference between this and last week's version is that it takes advantage of a bug in Microsoft's SMB protocol implementation that was recently uncovered and it was patched shortly before the attack, meaning that a lot of enterprise environments weren't up to date. This is as much of a story as your granny calling you over because she accidentally clicked free_music.mp3.exe.

it got highlighted because it could propagate inside of local networks

This time if one user clicked the shady email, everyone in the network got WanaCry.

block port - safe mode - remove/edit registry - restore pc to previous backup version

like little kid shit

that as well plus the whole blaming the wikileaks and russian thing for the release of this exploit.
Winfags deserve it anyway. Good goyim

>He saves his porn.
Dude..

To be honest I would love that.

Bitcoin autists are sad

This could literally be prevented by updating Windows, like, last year.

100% retarded PC users. I have no sympathy. I just hope they have active backups. There's no excuse for getting hit by Crypto in the current year.

My family is based so I am fine.

>porn

email is already self-regulated but the gangstas get through the filters

nah this was remotely executed. the vulnerability is just the vector they didn't patch, but it allowed complete remote code execution. it was speared in with cute cats sure, but the package is a worm, meaning it spread across connected devices running on shared networks. it's why organizations took hardest hits, because they all used systems that required connected devices to access (patient records, etc)

Depends what sort of backup you're talking about.

System restore won't do shit, the files will still be locked. It would have to be an image based backup like Shadowprotect or Veeam.

>Many NHS trusts still use WINDOWS XP, a version of Microsoft’s operating system that has not received publicly available security updates for half a decade, and even those which are running on newer operating systems are often sporadically maintained.

>Mlp
>Interracial sex
>joining antifa

You deserve pain.

Literally this.
>Windows XP is the best, herp derp
I can already imagine all the 50 year old IT guys, spewing this bullshit, shitting their pants right now because they never tested their 15 year old tape backup system.

Dude what do you think the Pentagon are on or most of the Nuclear weapons network. Its extremely primitive.

We don't have any fucking money lad, the NHS can't even afford Vista

>Using IE
Biggest troll yet

>that Russians tier writing
Greatest allies, yes..

So your NHS is poorer than my local town hall ten years ago?

System restore should work just fine.

Remove any .wncry files & restore them

Not rocket science or super hacking team here this is like little kid programmed it

Like the anonymous faggots on Twitter

u have to pay within 72 hours or ill murder ur cat m8

>Researchers cannot discover the exact origin of the virus and it’s distribution campaign

pretty weak t,bh

Why would an external HDD prevent/help with these attacks?

Is the shadow broker /ourguy/?

it would if it wasn't connected at the time of the attack

It's spread through an NSA exploit that got leaked in the ShadowBrokers release

HOW SMUG ARE MY LINUX BOYS RIGHT NOW

I would put money on this being done by Russia.

my files will be erased 1/8/70?

fuck

>people still use windows PCs for core business tasks and specialist software instead of a custom unix system
>for many large businesses the one time hit of sorting out a unix system would save them far more in the long term over windows licenses etc.
>can still run HR's word processor machine on windows

Stop using windows for business

Any windows user that actually left updates on is fine

So all of Sup Forums is fucked

We received and email with and encrypted compressed file and a password for decompression claiming to be an invoice. This was of course routinely removed safely but is probably the most common method of spreading the attack. Via email.

Wasn't it some NSA traitor that stole the tools on USB sticks which he smuggled out of the building?

most likely russian hackers

Yes the nation of Russia is so desperate for money that they will ransom the NHS and random smucks data. Or Ivan and his buddies in a random village in Russia figured out a quick way to make bucks.

Whoever gave the tools to the ShadowBrokers wasn't detained, they kept leaking shit even after the suspect was arrested

hurrr

The last attempt to upgrade NHS systems cost upwards of £10 billion.

That's about 5.6% of your total GDP.

>Using Windows

Thats why you should have listened to Sup Forums and installed gentoo (or any other linux distro).

You have to be a retard to use some (((closed source))) operating system in this day and age, why do you think the US Army (and many other parts of the US government) is using a lot of redhat Linux?

Yeah, we're in a deficit of about £2 billion.

>kill switch
I don't know too much about encryption but isn't even decent encryption really hard to crack?
And some random retard just randomly disabled it?
Sounds fake and gay nsa set up.
Or am I just being retarded?

>No thread on it
Because it's dead already, it stopped spreading

They've made 75K in 1 day.
pretty guud
blockchain.info/address/13AM4VW2dhxYgXeQepoHkHSQuy6NgaEb94

No joke I've had ransomware before.

Rebooted in safe mode with no networking, ran antivirus and a rootkit and it cleaned it up. no problems since then

This is the power of Windows.

It would be better if you told me how much of your GDP goes for the NHS in percentages and compare to our health care system which is also shit.

That is not possible if the virus is doing what is said it does.

Aside from the pic being clearly fake, if your files are encrypted, there is no way getting them back without the key.

No, the kill swsitch was something that stopped its spread.

For some fucking reason it stopped spreading once it detected a specific web domain was active.

>Fortunately, a kill switch was included in the code. When it detects that a particular web domain exists, it stops further infections. That domain was created earlier today by a UK infosec bod, who spotted the dot-com in the reverse-engineered binary; that registration was detected by the ransomware, which immediately halted its worldwide spread.

>Connections to the magic domain – iuqerfsodp9ifjaposdfjhgosurijfaewrwergwea.com – were sinkholed to a server in California, and the admins of the infected systems reaching out to the dot-com will be notified, we're told.

theregister.co.uk/2017/05/13/wannacrypt_ransomware_worm/

and then they could've used multiple accounts on different campaigns

Idiot, this shit infects regardless of your clicks, it uses the vulnerability of Windows.

>made 75K in 1 day.
>literally meme """""currency"""""
>will never be able to exchange for real money
>literally committed a crime that will land them in jail for life for monopoly money
This is so retarded that I almost feel bad for them.

No, because you were a fucking moron making a smart ass comment, so I decided to highlight to you the actual expense by telling you how much of your shit nation's GDP it would take just to fucking update a computer system.

They going to ban Bitcoin...
Bitcoin not affected.

why would they need to do that?

I'd just renew the system in the future since there are often dormant malware once you were infected

but yeah I also had some ransom thing that you could just kill the process and delete, kek

He said unironicaly on an ironic vietnamenese cat cooking book

It's the power of incompetence. If it was linux it wouldn't be cheaper because the IT admins are lazy and can't get things done

How did this random person get the code?
Still sounds like a false flag.

This is happening because so many businesses refuse to upgrade from Windows XP. How fucking lazy do you have to be? You don't even have to pay for a new OS, just get a Linux distro that suits the machines specifications. Fuck, what am I saying? These retards don't even know what an operating system is.

Avionics use highly specialized and obscure software like VxWorks and QNX, not vulnerable or suitable to any large scale attack. I agree that traffic controllers are in danger though.
