Because you haven't heard much about it. The somali pirates disrupted a very important shipping lane. So it got a lot of attention, and with war ships in the area it has basically been stopped.
So now there's more piracy on the west side of Africa, but less people care about it. Just look up piracy outside Nigeria.

Somalian pirates started as local fishermen attacking illegal Japanese/Chinese/American fishing boats. Then they realise that catching a japanese was more lucrative than à fish.
