----- In the first two months of 2017, overall German exports rose seven percent on the year to €201.2 billion ($219.57 billion). The rise was driven by a broad-based uptick in demand for top quality German products such as cars and machinery.
Data compiled from the Federal Statistics Office showed that exports to the US, Germany's most important single export destination after the EU, jumped nine percent in January-February to €17.9 billion. Exports to China stood at €12.6 billion.
The increase in US exports came amid a period of ‘America First’ campaigning, which included threats of broad-based introduction of punitive tariffs on imports through a border adjustment tax.
“We're very relaxed about this whole debate about Trump and protectionism,” the port manager in Hamburg, Axel Mattern, told Reuters. “If [US President] Mr. Trump doesn't want to buy German goods anymore because he thinks he can produce everything at home, we'll just find other buyers.”

This idiot should stick to managing ports because he clearly doesn't understand economics. Why on Earth would Trump put tariffs on German cars? German automakers aren't trying to destroy domestic American automakers by flooding the market with cheap cars like the Chinese do with steel. Germany doesn't artificially lower the price of its exports with export subsidies like China does either. And Germany's tariffs for our exports are miniscule compared to Mexico or China.
Finally, once tax reform is done, it might actually be cheaper for German automakers to make their cars in the US. We already have the cheapest electricity prices, which will only continue to drop as the President relaxes regulation. We also have the benefit of geography, our expansive and interconnecting river systems make the cost of transport much lower than other countries.
Either German automakers will start making their cars in the US, or they won't be able to compete with the lowered price of US cars, especially in the Chinese and British markets. Even a 20% tax rate and the repeal of Obamacare would make the US the cheapest country in the world to manufacture goods of any kind.

The indeces boomed, but that wasn't because of economic growth and wealth creation, it's because low FED interest rates created a perverse incentive to invest in stocks. Also quarterly GDP growth is not that reliable an indicator especially considering this economy is still operating under most of Obama's economic policy.
